I never thought Praetorians were *that* overpowered, truthfully.

On topic, I'd say berserkers since they're so good at taking cities.

Can I vote for BeserkSamurai, since you're allowing ImpiVulture?

Well I have to say Beserker has been very impressive. Ragnar with Financial can beeline to him much earlier than normal, and with the Aggressive trait the Beserker starts off effectively 20% stronger than vanilla macemen. Amphibious is also easy to leverage and you don't lose it when you upgrade to riflemen.

Finally, Beserker is draftable and you get Nationalism right before you get Rifling. Can you say Globe Theater?

Really, the end of the Praetorian era is the dawn of the Beserker era...

Samurai is also good, at least for the AI. Toku is a nightmare to go after once he gets his Feudalism/ Civil Service/ Rifling. Why would you want to attack into a city of 10 Riflemen, each with 5-6 promotions? Yikes. When he takes a city, you aren't really taking it back...

Cheers,

Dai

All hail the collateral Cho Ko Nu!

i believe Landsknecht's still lose to a maceman..

Cataphracts are powerful but they don't receive defensive bonuses and can't get city raider promotions, plus pikeman are still matching there strength so it's not that easy to take a city with cataphracts if they have upgraded pikemen. it's also really a pain in the butt to get them early, the beelines and slingshots to cataphracts are a pain seriously, i've tried for hours to come up with a good strategy but there just isn't one. the best is to tech metalcasting then oracle slingshot to machinery then save your great engineer to bulb guilds and it still is a pain..

Oromo's are the strongest unit right now as far as i'm concerned, they start with drill i and drill ii, so you pop them out and have instantly drill i, drill ii, drill iii, drill iv, that's 4-6 first strikes, -60 collateral, and 10 percent vs mounted. you only get a small window to use them and you gotta beeline it but during that window you can take your entire continent its retardedly powerful.

It looks to me as if Quechuas still rule the Hall of Fame.

I figure redcoats are second to Legions.

Quechuas are a lot less useful if you play huge maps. By the time you find someone, they're facing axemen. Not a pretty sight.

On the other hand, I love exploring with them.

Fast Worker by and far. The only unit which delivers from turn 10 to turn X.

The Gallic Swordsman isn't that powerful all by itself, but combined with Boudica's traits, they're pretty kickass.

Other than that, I'd go with Oromo Warrior.

Damn, I totally forgot about good ol' quechas. I voted for landsknechts though.

I said Cataphracts but Oromo Warriors are pretty much right there with them so it took me a bit to decide.

I'd say Cataphracts are strongest. Maybe even with Praets. 12 str. at that time is just....ridiculous, really.. Janissaries need to be gotten reasonably early to truly shine(they don't shine against gunpowder, after all). After the Cataphract, I'd say the Immortals and the Chucks, with Berserkers, Samurai, and Landsknetchs getting honorable mentions.

Winged Hussar, definitely ;D

Hmmm, in BtS it would be... Ottoman-Tokugawa Jennissary, i think.

The East Indiaman is my favorite (duh) but I think the Landskhefaksd;fak (the HRE one) is the most powerful. :D

Oromo, esp. when combined with unrestricted leaders. So many promotions!
