I saw this news on TV (UPN) just 2 weeks ago: it's now fashionable for womens to wear men's briefs. :lol!

School violence. It's a terrible shame that school is, in a growing number of places, a very unsafe place to be. This certainly will have some long term reprocussions on our education system.

One trend that is really starting to bug me is sensitivity. Over-sensitivity that is. Then there's the litigation sitution.

Lessee, what else..? Rap 'music', specifically gangsta. Puh-leeze! A bunch of drug-dealers whining about the cops? Can't we just shoot them all? Six-Pack minus 4k is gone, and Notorius F-A-T, all we need to do is get them all in the same room somewhere with a big pile of guns, and then when the last one comes out to make a double-live album, we can shoot him too.
Oh, another trend that bugs me. This insane attempt to re-vivify the 70s. We need to round up these disco-super-freaks and toss them in the room with the gangstas.

Oh, yeah, and pop-psychology. I strangled my inner child a long damn time ago, he was pissing me off. If your's gives me any crap, I'll hand him an apple with a razor blade in it...

About the only other thing I can think of is apologism. What is this crap where people have to apologize for **** their ancestors did to somebody else's ancestors? Everyone involved in the original events is dead. Let the issue die with them. Just shut the hell up and quit whining already. You're giving me a headache and a bleeding ulcer.

Whew! That felt good!

Political correctness. I'm sick of correct, accurate, genuinely descriptive terms being thrown out the window in favor of meaningless garbage that succeeds at being unoffensive for, like, twelve minutes, before someone starts throwing the new P.C. terms around as insults. There's nothing inherent in the old words that makes them insulting, it's just the fact that people use them as insults toward people they do not properly refer to. But the same thing happens with the 'newspeak' versions, and we are forced to degrade to yet a lower level of nonsensical verbal mush. As a lover of language, it pains me greatly to watch this trend happening.[/B]

And vice versa. I resent it when people accuse me of catering to political correctness when I politely try to point out that while the word '******' might have been perfectly acceptable back in the Dark Ages, it isn't quite kosher at this time in history. I love languages myself, and one of the things that stands absolutely clear to me is that things change, and languages most of all (well, maybe not most but at least pretty much). While I tolerate that people use whatever racial slur they feel like using, the least I could do is to tell them that they alienate me as well as the people of whom the speak by doing this.

And I hate having to edit my posts.

listen to nwa - straight outta compton, it´s still good.

NWA--straight outa compton is brilliant! Granted there's too much derivative "F*** tha Police" kind of crap out there, but there are indeed real artists producing real valid social commentary with their so-called 'gangsta' rap. I can still remember the lyrics to "Gangsta Gangsta" even though I haven't heard it in over a decade.

And trends I hate? The trend to follow trends. Blair Witch knock-offs, Pokemon knock-offs, etc.

Also, the idea that movies aimed at a younger audience must insult their intelligence by having children in it (Jurassic Parks I and II) or goofy characters (Star Wars, anything by Disney) for them to relate with. Why a kid can't just identify with Han Solo or the dinosaur expert is beyond me. That's what I used to do as a child.

(BTW this topic is a great release!)

"Artists" remaking songs... Get some talent, and learn how to play an instrument.

Boy bands...

See above advice on instrument.

"I am leaving" threads are pretty annoying also... The "I am leaving cause you people suck" stuff is getting old...

The most annoying trend is a personal one: Time. It just seems that I never have enough, and it always is running a little too fast for me.

i don´t know if this is true, becuase i don´t remember were i´ve heard it, but the when the gangsta rap came, fbi had to investigate if the situation really was that bad as the lyrics said.

I think people need trends to identify with a certain segment of population. It makes them feel like they are part of a group, a club, an elite. This tendency is overexploited by brands and advertising but it is inherent to human nature.
Trends I don't like : holiday destination trends : someone discovers this underexploited location and it becomes trendy for a small number of people then after a while,it gets corrupted by big bucks.

I"ve enjoyed this thread and agree with almost everything in here, but had to comment on this:

Sampling. By which I mean when so-called musical 'artists' take a clip of a real artist's song and use it to write a new song. Then they try to make us believe their new song is serious. Get off me with that. If you don't have the creative ability to write your own tunes--or at least the balls to admit you aren't that talented so you can hire someone to write original tunes for you!--get out of the music business. You don't belong there.

While many misuse sampling, don't think for a minute it is somehow easier or less creative than writing music from scratch. Done with musical integrity, it can be every bit as creative (and difficult) as composing your own tune. Not to disagree that 90% of it probably is just cheap crap--goes for most pop music (any genre) anyway.

how about this one, high concept movies. too much of everything except iq.

How about people who feel the need to blame others for the state the world is in. It's always someone else's fault, never their's and usually someone they don't like.

And also stupid people who go to court and sue others for stupid reasons.

People who won't accept responsibility for their own actions. "My drug addiction made me do it", "I was too drunk to know what I was doing" etc. You dug your own hole, accept that.
