I must say that im definately into the, build-as-many-cities-as-possible style. Irrigate as much as you can, build as many wonders as you can, meet as many people as you can and take it from there.

Infact the game i got going at the moment was like that until the greeks broke a peace treaty and that was it. I stopped everyhtin i was building, Built barracks in every city, and i had 3 islands of cities, so Island #1 was the cannon island. #2 was the cruesader island, and island 3 was the spy island. Transported my *** over there and kicked their butt. It was fun.

Saying that I dont like War.

What about everyone else?

The state of my GOTM#3 game says it all. For the last two years, every one of my victories has been by spaceship. I am simply unable to change my strategy to conquest, but I'm pushing hard into the Zulus, and the Persians are way behind me.

"What do we want? Tickets to the Met, Broadway, the shops, civilization, man, that's what we're looking for. Oh, we may stumble along the way, take this fellow for instance. . . *BLAM*
Now was that civilized? Fun, yes, but in no sense civilized."

I play build early, and build big. Lots of cities, few wars, lots of trade. Once I get cavalry and artillery I start fighting, and when have tanks and howitizers, it time to KILL KILL KILL!

Hello...

My strategy is basically expansionism. I like it when my empire stretches from coast to coast, sea to sea, ocean to ocean... That's why i sometimes have problems with my AI neighbours early in the game, so my second goal is defence and containment. Also, i try to draw as much of their resources as i can towards military, so they give a little city improving and science up, while myself i make "Kill Zones" where i take out their advancing armies. I'm usually at war with many civs, except at the very beginning, when it's useful to trade techs with them.
My #1 goal is science. My #2 goal is city development, so i build almost every possible worthy improvement. I just recently started playing on deity level, i scored high without having finished the game, but somehow i got bored and dropped the games when it was clear that i would shoot of into space first.
The game i'm playing now is rather nice, i just crushed the americans (war lasted from 1914 to 1945

) and now only the English are left, but they have started a heavy assault on my undefended cities. The Vikings are also breathing, but they pose to real threat, as we are into the armor/howitzer/bomber war, and they haven't got musketeers yet.
I also like to use diplomats very often, thus keeping myself on facism (for the money) or keeping the AI on democracy (then i try to sabotage as many temple-colloseum-cathedral improvments to force them into revolution)
That's how it basically is...

I'm definitely NOT expansionnist... I rarely build 20 cities in the whole game, but my few cities are so good that in my current game (not the GOTM), I have build only eight cities, but destroyed the Mongols, and I'm kicking the Frenchies, the Zulus ans the Russians, sure, I've taked a great number of cities, but they don't count...If it was only me, I would destroy them...

Generally one palys a perfectionist style of game, but usually give up once got all tech and developed up to max, as AI is never a worhtwhile opponent. Oh for a lovely modern war with tanks and CVBGs..
All I look for is to get on a continent by my own, build 20 to 30 cities, get virtually all wonders, and meander off into meaninglessness like the miserable old sod I am.
Have won by spaceship, but don't have CD so that is a fairly pointless exercise. Play world map, as all the random maps look like they've been designed by a norse god on hallucinogenics- all squiggly islands that go on forever.
I never get to use my massive industrial capacity for anything useful, as the enemy is too easy or just plain weird. Hmm.

My strategy is similar to yours, except I start bribing as soon as I'm in democracy. That way, I usually control the world by 1500, and populate the entire world by 1700, and have a really high score by the end.

In the beginning, I first research horseback riding and send at least one horsemen to get all the huts. I usually get a couple of units, and use those to destroy any civs sharing the island I'm on. Then once I've populated the entire island and have some small colonies, and I'm in democracy, I start bribing.

There's a lot more to it than having a lot of cities.
Besides city site location, positioning relative to your capital is important; to insure protective reenforcements and lower corruption.

I don't usually worry about that. It's not going to have such a big effect that I'm going to have to rebuild my capital.

Besides, you usually start near the coast, so you're capital is almost never near the center of your nation.

10-15 Mega Cities provide me with everything.

I use the SSC, and docus on building only 6 wonders, and researching only the needed techs.

This allows me to get all the needed wonders, and with them, and Democracy in 1AD I win easily.
