Succesion Game #1: Classic Team

Does anyone else claim the island of Nosskire? If there is no reply within two days, the island will be known as the Island of Eriksson from that moment.

I ask every 'king' to send me a copy of the .sav of his last turn, so I can make screenshots and make a small book. I already have those of 280 AD and 580 AD. Send it to kevinklop@hotmail.com

------------------
Concordia res parvae cres****.

Don't forget my claim to the island with Kev IV, Dover (soon to be disbanded and moved) and I believe Richmond.

As for the team as a whole - please feel free to settle anywhere on any island I claim and do what you must to alter anything there. The good of the English as a whole comes before the ego of any one king.

By the way, how are things going, Thunderfall? Have we taken the Pyramids from the Egyptians yet? I am glad that you are staying with the Classic Team!

THUNDERFALL RETURNS

880 AD(0): It is the most crowded day inside the Marco Polo's Embassy. Emissaries from around the world are invited to witness the return of Thunderfall. Unfortunately, these emmissaries are not all friendly to the new king. Celtic, Mongol, and Persian emissaries all came up and demand 50 Gold tribute in exchange for peace. The new king smiles at their innocence and orders guards to expel them immediately. After that, other emissaries are much more cooperative. Chivary knowledge is acquired from our ally the Zulus in exchange for Construction knowledge. Zulus & German emissaries demand The Republic knowledge, but the new king politely refused, which cause the Zulus to cancel this "useless" alliance. Banking & Economics techs are acquired from the Egyptians in exchange for Navigation and Bridge Building. Foreign minister reports that the Egyptians are building Adam Smith's Company.

900 AD(1): Persians land an elephant and a horseman near New Castle. Order is restored in Warwick. We immediately contacted the Persians and they agreed to withdraw all their troops in our territory. Good news: Travelers report that Egyptians have abandoned their Adam Smith's project! City of Thunderfall II founded near Nosskire to commemorate the return of King Thunderfall. City of Cambridge is founded near Birmingham.

920 AD(2): Mongols change their government to Reublic. Zulus acquire Pottery, The Republic, and Engineering from the Mongols, while Mongols received chvalry, monarchy, and feudalism from Zulus. They then sign a peace treaty. Luxury rate is increased to 40% and all enterainers in all cities are put to work in the fields. Brighton and Kevin City form new settlers units. Workers caravan arrives in Canterburry and adds 50 shields to the project(226 more shields required). Workers caravan arrives in London and adds 50 shields to the construction of Mike's Chapel. (0 more shield needed!). Our diplomat attempts to steal tech from the Egyptian city of Alexandria, but couldn't find any new tech.

940 AD(3): London completes building the spetacular Milchaelanglo's Chapel!!!

960 AD(4): Mongols acquire Literacy from the Persians. Caravan arrives at Canterbury and adds 50 shields to the Wonder project. All these trading of technologies between other civilizations give the King a big headache, and he decides to take a break from these boring news at the beach for a few weeks. English citizens could not find the King anywhere and they find it necessary to start a revolution to attract the King's attention!

980 AD(5): Life goes on despite the revolution. Gloucester is founded near Kevin City and Manchester is founded near Brighton.

1000 AD(6): The erratic Mongols change their government to Despot and then to a Monarchy again. Celtic government is overthrown. Caravan from Conventry continues its journey to Canterbury.

1010 AD(7): The revolution did catch King Thunderfall's attention. The King told the English people that it's too much for him to handle all things by himself and that he would like to share his power with a senate. Thus a Republic governemt is formed. Thunderfall proclaimed consul of the new English Republic! The new rates are 10% Tax, 60% Luxury, and 30% Science. Income is 19 and expense is 22. Research is 20 turns. Current population is 2,2 Million. Birmingham completes training a pikeman unit for defense.

1020 AD(<IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/cool.gif" border=0>: Our people are very happy with the new government because of increased trade and lower corruption. "We love Consul Thunderfall" days are celebrated in all cities! 22 Golds are spent to recruit more people for a new Settlers unit at Nosskire.

1030 AD(9): Rumor has been confirmed: happy people are much more productive! Population soars to 2.6 Million in just 10 years. Domestic advisor reports that we now have more people than any other civilizations. Our diplomat arrives at the Egytian city of Heliopolis and steals Invention tech! Thankfully, the senate is able to see the benefit of the Invention tech and this prevents the government from collapsing. Our international reputation is changed from "spotless" to "honorable", but who cares? City of Bristol is founded near Kevin City. Egytians are furious and they declare war on us. Tax and expense are both 22! Science is still 20 turns.

1040 AD(10): It seems the Mongols want to imitate our success and switch their government to a Republic. A new round of tech trading begins between other civilizations, but the King decide to ignore those news. Our scientists is now researching the secret of Gunpowder!!! We are at war with all other civs except the Persians. Population is up to 2.9 Million! Foreign advisor reports that other civs are not building any important wonders, only the Zulus are building the Oracle. Domestic advisor reports that Leonardo's Worksop (OR Adam Smith company) will be completed in 2 turns. Our defense will be un-penetratble once we discover gunpower! A Pikeman unit starts to explore lands around the Thunderfall II.

1050 AD(11): We are not surprised... it seems the erratic Mongols just abandon their Republic government and swicth back to to Monarchy. We can't help but laugh at their pathetic attempts. Will they ever stick with the same government for more than 2 turns? <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/lol.gif" border=0> They also declare war on our former ally, the Zulus. The population of our civilization continues to grow at an amazing rate, the pop is now 3.12 Million! Sciece is lowered to 19 turns. Pikeman near Thunderfall II discovers a band of Legion mercenaries and they willingly joined our civiliztion. A peace treaty is signed with the Zulus.. looks like they are too busy fighting the Mongols.

1060 AD(12): The hopeless Celts have finally developed Trade. Travelers report that Zulus have nearly completed their Oracle project. Canterbury completes building Leonardo's Workshop!!!!! All pikeman and warriors are upgraded to pikemen; all triremes are upgraded to caravels. Silk caravan arrives in London and sold its silk merchandise for 30 Gold. The population exceeds 3.22 Million! Aquecduct is rush-built in Nottingham to supply clean water to the growing population.

1070 AD(13): The Zulus completes their Oracle project, as expected. The Egyptians landed a settlers unit near Kev IV. English scientists ahve discover the secret of Gunpowder!!!!! All pikemen, archers, and legions are upgraded to Musketeers!! Democracy is being researched. Crusaders from Leeds destoryed an Egyptian elephant unit. Population soars to 3.42 Million! After years of population boom, Thunderfall decides to return to normal population growth again. The new rates are 20% tax, 30% luxury, and 50% science. Tax revenue is now 50 Gold and expense is only 24 gold. It only takes 13 turns to discover a tech. For now, one musketeer in each city is sufficient for defense.

1080 AD(14): Mongols and Germans exchange several techs and signed a "secret" alliance aaginst us! An Egyptian settlers unit is destoryed near Kev IV by our musketeers. Our Musketeers from Thunderfall II city enters a village and is given 200 Gold in gift by the villagers! The treasury now has 269 Gold, enoguh to rush build several things. Cavavan production in Oxford is rush built (22 Gold spent); Library in Nottingham is rush-built (116 Gold spent); Aquectduct in London is rush built (78 Gold spent). Settlers productions in Kevin city and Kev IV are rush-built (421 Gold spent).

1090 AD (15): The war between Mongols and Zulus has ended. We also signed a peace treaty signed with the Zulus. Civil disorder in Newcstle! City of Leicester is founded near Thunderfall II. Science research now takes only 11 turns. We have a total of 23 cities. Six new cities are built during the second reign of Thunderfall.

Thunderfall II ruled the English civilization for 190 years, from 900 AD to 1090 AD. His long reign is marked by rapid population growth and the construction of 2 gigantic projects, Mike's Chapel and Leonardo's Workshop. These two Wonders will provide the English Civilization will everlasting benefits. Thunderfall II also modernized the English military forces. Although the English republic maintains a small military force, it's more than sufficient to protect the empire from enemies. Thunderfall II is the truly the "people's consul" who returned London to its true self. <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0>

In upcoming years,
- We can't forget to disband Dover. Moving it one square south we can make use of both a fish and whale resource. (sorry Kev, I forgot about this)
- switch to democracy once it's discovered.
- start building Wonders in more cities real soon.
- establish silk trade routes with a few large Egyptian and Persian cities. They will be very profitable.
- start loading caravels full of musketeers and crusaders. 2 full loads should be able to capture Heliopolis!

Good luck conquering the Egyptians, Flatlander Fox!

Author's Foreword: For better or worse here is the account of Carl II. I hope no one is upset by my account here, but I decided that the way things went for me, this particular ruler is a cruel one.<IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0>

In the year of our Lord 1100 AD, a new leader came to the forefront of English Politics. A decendant of Carl I the Water Fearing, this Regent from Newcastle had been raised in the ranks of the Army, attaining high honors in several barbarian wars. After Thunderfall II's passing, he wrested power away from the moderates and became Consul of the English empire.

1100 AD Carl takes power and immediately abolishes several civil liberties laws, which he deems "weenie and effeminate". This puts him at odds with a swarthy and unwashed group which he calls the Hippies. The Hippies would plague him his whole reign.
Carl also began production of a modern army, at the cost of several universities and libraries. Carl suspected that the Universities and Libraries were the breeding ground of the Hippies anyway.
1110 AD A Mongolian Republic was founded (again) and Carl sensed an opportunity for peace. The Mongolian emmissary was quite rude to Carl, so Carl had him boiled alive.
The Mongols were not pleased. The German ambassador protested so Carl had his entire entourage drawn and quartered. The Hippies squealed in terror as Carl promised "you are next." Protesting was widespread across the empire.
1120 AD The Great Library (Which Carl deems useless anyway) finally proves it's worth by giving us Sanitation. Carl hopes that the Hippies benifit from this wonderful advance.
The town of Ipswich is founded.
1130 AD Carl is convinced that the correct course of the Empire is to capture the Pyramids and colonize what is now Egypt. He only can watch and wait as his Navy is scattered across three continents and rushing to where his army waits at Leeds. The Admiral of the Navy, a suspected Hippie, is fed to Carl's pet cat.
1140 AD The Navy is moving much quicker now under the new Admiral of the Navy, who seems to have learned from his predecessor's mistakes. A new plan, in which temples are built in every city, is rejected by the Hippies. They cite "Separation of Church and State." Enraged, Carl organizes an "Appease the Hippies" rally, and then captures as many of them as he can. He then ships them to Karakorum, a Mongol city, to observe what CRUELTY really is. The Mongols are not pleased.
1150 AD A Naval battle takes place North of Leeds, in which Carl commands his fleet of Caravals to Victory over the Egyptian Triremes. Carl rushes to Fiona Apple to prepare the assault there. At home the Hippies organize a "Give peace a chance" rally. Carl brands them Egyptian sypathizers and has them tortured and buried alive.
1160 AD Fiona Apple is attacked with the 11th Crusader brigade supported by the 313th Musket battalion. A smashing Victory is won!!! The legend of the Flatlander Fox has begun!!! The Hippies lead a revolt in several cities within the empire in protest of the war.
1170 AD The Egyptian counterattack is beat back with a courageous stand by the 313th Musket battalion. Fiona Apple is captured. The depressing singing namesake of this town is found and silenced permanently. The name of the City is almost changed to Janis, but Carl thinks better of stirring up old ghosts.
Coventry is attacked by Barbs, and with Hippie help the musket battalion there is destroyed. The city is empty and cannot stop the horde of Barbarians about to enter. Democracy is discovered, and Carl immediately calls for elections. He then tells his wisemen to work on Theory of stuff that goes up and then comes down. The city of Carlton is founded.
1180 AD The Hippie Rebellion has begun!!! Everywhere the cursed Hippies have cities in disarray, and worse yet, Coventry falls to Barbarians. England's Darkest hour has begun, as a Naval ship carrying Carl's heir to Egypt is lost in a Naval battle.
1190 AD Carl continues his quest for the Pyramids, commanding a Naval battle outside of Heliopolis which he is victorious. Carl prepares to invade southern Egypt.
1200 AD Carl is elected President of England!!! Hippies everywhere bemoan the fact that there candidate mysteriously disappeared after a visit to the Imperial Palace.
1210 AD The battle for Heliopolis is won by the 1st and 2nd Crusader brigades supported by the 4th Knight group. The city stands empty before us. Widespread protests are put down by the Army back home.
1220 AD Hippie infiltrators, singing a song about "Imagine there's no Heaven" incite a crowd in London to revolt. Carl's regents are chased away. Heliopolis is captured and Carl stands at the foot of the Pyramids. The 1st and 2nd Crusader brigades are lost in battle. "Now we must defend it" he utters. The Egyptian's prepare their counter attack.
1230 AD Coventry is recaptured by Carl himself!!! Carl paid the dissidents loyal to him and prepared an uprising. He forces the leader, a Hippie, to walk back to London behind Carl's horse, and then has him skinned alive. Carl is still unable to get elections up and running and rules the country as a despot.
1240 AD Carl fosters an improved relationship with the Persians and exchangs map. He also had learned of a Mongol landing near Ipswich. Carl is killed at the foot of the Pyramids defending the city of Heliopolis. Hippies everywhere rejoice. But the Egyptians are unsuccessful in taking the city. The city is renamed Foxen, in honor of a great King, Carl the Grossartig (Magnificent) or the Flatlander Fox.

Postscript: The Egyptians are ripe for the taking. Just gotta get unit to em. Watch out for the Mongols, they have a city close to Carlisle/Ipswich. Some of your cities are hungry, keep an Eye out on that. Kev you can haunt me, I DIDN"T DISBAND DOVER. SORRY.

Great job, Flatlander!! Hurrah! for taking the Pyramids. I think they also have the Observatory and that city may be a good one to later build Newton's College!

Dover must be like size 6 by now!!!!

We must move the city lest the spirit of Kev IV never receive solace in the afterlife.

I've made screenshots of every island, at the end of every reign since the 2nd round. (280 A.D. is the first). But it's a bit large to send (3Mb), and it'll just become larger. Maybe I should put it on a website so everyone can see it. One problem: I haven't got a website.

Cedric: I think that we are still playing 15 - at least that's what the person ahead of me did.

Actually, as I look back at the posts, it would seem that Hakan only played 10 while everyone else played 15. Oops.

So what is the verdict? Shall we go another round with 15 and allow Hakan to make up his lost 5 next round?

hmmm well I'll play ten turns and save it and wait for other responses on whether to play five more turns or send it on

Sorry. I think it's my fault. I just played 15, wondering why Hakan just played 10 and realizing it after I posted it to KEv and he posted it to TF. Sorry.

Hakan said that he was a "Peace loving King so he decided to only play 10 turns. At least that is what I thought from it. No big deal, I played 15 and LOVED IT

It is 1250 A.D. and a new person enters the struggle to get control of the anarchistic English. Cedric II is listened to by the masses but the upper-class aristocrats dislike him and anarchy continues. Kevin City builds a temple in this time of confusion for the benefit of the citizens. New Castle crusaders attack Alexandria and manage a defeat of a phalanx.
1260 AD: The smelly Mongols discover Physics as scraps of information reach us the wisemen at the Great Library figure out how physics works as well, though noone has a reason for the Mongols being ahead of us in technology. The New Castle crusaders are lost to an Alexandrian attack, the people of New Castle are greatly displeased with Cedric's decision to send them in alone...anarchy continues.
Zulus and Germans sign a peace treaty (w/ each other)for Invention and some lesser tech, they then trade Horseback Riding and Bridge Building and sign a "secret" alliance against the English. News of this reaches the outlying areas and the people are not happy, anarchy continues. Foxen is attacked by Egyptian Elephants, our Knight was unready and was subsequently defeated city undefended.
1290 AD: Egyptians take the city of Foxen (but not before the Aqueduct was sold) and also steal the technology of Gunpowder! A caravel is lost to an Egyptian attack. The people of Fiona Apple and Leeds become greatly worried, nonetheless the aristocrats on the mainland give in and name Cedric II sovereign king of England.
1300 AD: Those bloody rug-makin Persians discover Physics. Bristol & Birmingham build temples to quell citizens fears of a less than godlike king.
1310 AD: Livy completes his epic history detailing the military power of the world. The English are listed number one and this raises spirits until it is found out that the Egyptians are dead last and yet a threat to our southern expansion. Kev IV builds a temple to distract citizens from the truth about there king. The Mongol city of Khanbalyk is found on the southern end of Kev Island! Carlisle citizens alarmed. Fiona Apple crusaders pillage irrigation near Alexandria.
1320 AD: Germans and Zulus exchange Chivalry, Seafaring, and some lesser techs. The rug-makers land a diplomat at the steps of Fiona Apple, a meeting is sought and they hand over their world map. As soon as the meeting was over the backstabbing diplomat abducted one of our wisemen and tortured the secret of Gunpowder out of him. Luckily this treachery was found out and war declared. Leeds Musketeer attacks Khanbalyk, Phalanx killed. Fiona Apple crusader destroys Theben catapult.
1330: Leeds builds settlers, this disturbs Leeds and Fiona Apple because of the nearness of the enemy, it would seem to them defense would be more important.... Coventry builds Temple though with the surrounding arid land people would have preffered a settler.
1340 AD: Cambridge and Brighton build temples to try and hide their kings ineptitude.... It does not work and the king goes into hiding fearing the wrath of his subjects. In the mean time the crusaders of Fiona Apple kill settlers form Alexandria.

Well I have played ten turns and will stick with that for now, I have been shown by this game how much refining my tactics need. Anyway for the books you may call this the reign of Cedric II the weak-kneed.
