Thunderfall III's Log

1735 AD(0):

Lots of gold are spent to rush build temples in several cities. I also decide to raise luxury rate to 60%. We will switch to democracy soon because far away cities have rampant corruptions.

1740 AD(1):

Despite the high luxury rate, citizens in a few cities are not pleased and they started riots. These people are probably fans of the former entertainers (I ordered all entertainers to work in the factories). The troublemakers are arrested and sentenced to jail.

Domestic advisor let me know that temple consructions are completed in serval cities. The citizens in those cities are very happy. The new ruler is not bad at all, they think.

Foreign Minister reports that our cease fire agreement with the Celts has expired. Maybe that's why they landed their knights on our lands... I summoned their diplomat to the Marco Polo's embassy and suggested a peace treaty, but they refused. I wanted to delcare war on the Celts but the weeny senate is afraid of war. Meanwhile, the Celtics continued move their troops closer to our cities. The Senate STILL doesn't want to act. What a bunch of cowards!

Something must be done soon before they sneak attack us. For the good of the empire, I ordered the troops to occupy the senate building and restrited all senators activities, effectively started a revolution. I want a gov't that can really support my war effort and has no corruption at the same time.

Trying to get as many nations to hate us, I started to demand tribute from all other nations. I will have the necessary excuse to start a war if they refuse. War is decalred on the Celts this way. Our riflemen in Conventry destoryed two Celtic knights in one shot, and the Rifleman unit from Birminham also killed a unit of Celtic knights.

To strenghthen the defense of Conventry, a calvary unit from York is dispatched to that region. I also ordered a sneak attack on the Egyptians and destroyed their wandering partisans on the Egyptian mainland. The entire Egyptian island is now firmly controled by us.

A rifleman unit and a spy from Arbela are sent to defend a fortress near the persian city of Susa. The spy inspected the city and found it has 2 rifleman and a musketeer defending the city. Subverting the city would require 2700 golds!

Dark Frontier city is founded near S.t. Hakansburg.

1745 (2): The foolish Celts have moved their catapult unit to the foot of Conventry. The catapult unit is quicky shattered by our rifleman. A routine espionage misson sabataged a Persian destroyer and the spy returned to the Arbela city safely after the mission.

1750 (3): The nation is still in anarchy and in the annual council meeting the advisors are all blaming each other over the collapse of the government. Thank God that they don't know the entire thing is my plot!
biggrin.gif

Two caravans have boarded a transport and they are heading to Bristol, which is building a Wonder.

Arbela's spy established a permanent embassy with the Persians and stold the Refregeration technology from the Persians. She is captured after the mission, unfortunately.

Our destoyer has found the last Egyptian city of Giza! That city is right below the Persian capital, Persepolis.

1752 (4):

Government succesfully switched to Democracy. At 40% luxury rate, science is 4 turns and there is a 62 Gold surplus per turn.

Susa calvary attacked our fortress near Arbela but was repelled by our rifleman. Fiona Apple's detoryer destroyed the garrison in the last Egyptian city, Giza (only has a phalanx). Sidon's destroyer attacked Pasagardae and killed a Persian rifleman and the unit is promoted to veteran status for valor in combat.

1754 (5):

Our policy is gaining lots of support throughout the empire and celebrations are held in many cites. English rifleman unit marched into the defendless Egptian city Giza and 307 Golds are plundered. The once great Egyptian empire is now history!

Spies stole Steel advance from the Persians and returned to Giza safely after the mission. From the intelligence collected by our spies, it looks like the Persian cities have unusally strong defense. Persepolis has 4 rifleman and 1 alpine troop, and Antioch has 2 rifleman, 1 alphine troop, 1 muskeeter, AND it's building a cruiser. A Persian engineer unit is destroyed at the shore of Antioch by our destroyer.

Intending to make the formerly Egyptian island an industrial powerhouse, most cities on that island are now building factories. We'll need more troops from these cities in our war against the Persians. Libraries and marketplaces are rushed-build in several cities, and a spy unit is rushed-build in Arbela, in northern part of the Persian continient.

The Persians have over 2000 Gold, but we don't need to worry about bribery becase we are a democracy. A Celtic musketer and a diplomat unit are destroyed near Birmingham and Hakansburg.

1756 (6): Silk trade route between London and Thunderfall is established. The first load of silk merchadise is sold for 96 Golds. A wine trade route is established between Nottingham and Ipswitch; 92 Golds revenue. Perseplis & Susa's Colosseums are destroyed by our spies and they are now consider veterans. We are sending veteran spies to enemy cities every turn. A Celtic diplomat is destroyed near Hakansburg by our scouts. Luxury rate temporaily set to 70% to make people happier.

1758 (7): Two Zulu destoryers attacked Conventry unsuccesfully. English scientists have made another breakthrough in military technlogy: we are now capable of create marine units that can attack enemies from ships! Rifleman is rushed build in Dark Frontier because a Celtic catapult is approaching. Giza spy destroyed Antioch's city walls and returned to the city safely.

1760 (
cool.gif
: Engineers have finally finished transforming the swamp near Nottingham to grassland. Again, our spies managed to sabotage cruiser production in Antioch and returned to Giza unhurt! They are truly our elite spies.

A German city, Bremen, is discovered by our destroyer at the southwest of the Persian continent. For some unknown reason, the Germans has a cannon unit facing the sea; it is destroyed by our destroyer. A Celtic settlers unit is also destoryed near Dark Frontier.

Foreign minister reports an alarming anti-English alliance between Celts and Mongols ("Merthyr Pact"). Military factory is rushed build in Elephantine.

1762 (9): Domestic advisor reports that our population has exceeded 18 million! Giza vet spy dstroyed the Stock Exchange in Persepolis and returned to Giza safely. Reinforcements (a rfileman and a vet calvary) have arrived at Giza. This city should be fairly secure now. We will start attacking Antioch next turn... Another German cannon unit is destoryed by our destroyer near Bactra.

1764 (10): This year is significant because of the Battle of Antioch. Giza city has very low shield production; capturing the nearby Antioch city would provide us a more productive outpost on the Persian mainland. Giza has 4 rifleman, 1 calvary, and 2 destroyers. It seems the Persians really defended their cities well, we lose 1 destoryer and and 2 refilmen units in the process. Now the city is empty but our heavily wounded troops are too tired to enter it.

1766 (11): Our troops marched into the city of Antioch: 256 Golds are plundered and Fundamentalism is acquired! Several units of Persian partisans appeared near the city, but that's expected. The Persians requested a cease fire and we glady signed it. We don't have many troops in that region after the battle.

Census indicates that the empire's population is almost 20 Million. Factory prodcution in Memphis is rushed-build for 250 Golds.

The eastern part of the empire has been peaceful since our victories over the Celts, but the Mongols unexpectly landed 5 units next to Wolfschlugen and killed one of the defending rifleman with a calvary! We must retaliate.

Luxury rate is switched back to normal (30%).

1768 (12): The railroads allowed us to qucikly send 3 units of riflemen from nearby cities and they defeated the Mongolian forces easily. Cruiser production rushed bild in Elephantine; it seems the Giza and Antioch could use some help to defend against the Persians. War might restart anytime.

1770 (13): Giza spy reported that Persepolis has 7 defending units. To help defend Giza, a calvary unit from Elphanitine boarded a transport and is heading to Giza. In the north, Celtic knights attacked Hakansburg but the city's garrison repelled the attack, as usual.

Our scientists have finalized the design of a new types of weapons, the artilleries. This powerful siege weapon will prove useful in our campaign against the heavily defended Persian cities.

Factory production is rushed-build in Kevin City for 247 Gold.

1772 (14): The treacherous Persians have broken the cease fire and their calvaries destroyed 2 rilfeman units in Antioch and Giza. For a while it looked like we are going to lose Giza, but our cruiser arrived on time and destroyed the Persian cruiser near Giza! To raise money, Longbowstead's Citywall is sold and city wall construction is rushed build in Antioch. We must secure Antioch. Our

Veteran spies destroyed Persepolis's aquecduct and return fafely to Giza.

A barnarian leader is captured near Susa and we received 150 Golds in ransom. Rifleman production is rushed-build in Giza.

1774 (15):

Foreign minister reports that the Persians have changed their gov't to Fundy and that the Germans have discovered the concept of Guerrilla Warfare.

Our spies succesfully destroyed Persepolis's Sewer system and returned to Giza safely. A Persian engineer unit by our destroyer along the coast near Giza. In additon, two mongol units (rilfeman & engineer) are destroyed near Manchester, and a Celtic knight is destroyed near S.t. Håkansburg. We lose a severely wounded destroyer to a Persian destroyer outside Antioch.
-------
Final Notes: Factories are building in many cities. It's a good idea to switch to Fundy and start a total war. We proabbly can get more than 1000 gold each turn in Fundy. Giza and Antioch are still not very safe from the Persians and will need more reinforments soon. I sold several city walls (such as the one in Warwick) because I think they are relatively safe cities. You can build city wall in those cities again if u want after factory is built; it shouldnt't take long.

Good luck!

I KNEW that Giza was somewhere on the Persian mainland! Let us show the Persians no mercy for coddling our enemies.

Those Celts are getting cheeky, and with all of the attacks on Birmingham I'll bet you a dollar that they put a city somewhere nearby!

Have at them, Flatlander!

"It is our God given right to hold the globe in our hands. Those who oppose us are not of our God and WILL be vanquished."
Quote from Carl III, Lord Protector of the English.

Foreword: Carl was elected President in 1776 with a large majority of the public opposed to his ideas and beliefs. He had the support of the military and of the church though, and this was the deciding factor in his parlimentry approval for the highest office. The military was assured that the rag-tag approach to the war with the Persians would be reversed, and the church realized that they had a near-zealot in the highest office. Carl quickly decided that barracks would have to be built in every city and began a program to train our army. The Senate forced Carl into a peace deal with the Persians. This brought on the "Night of the Cross" where military and church officials were officially sworn in as judges and commissioners and warrants were signed off for the arrest of more than 200 parlimentary members. Carl dissolved Parliment six hours later. That night and into the morning fires burned in every English City as the Democracy crumbled.
The following day Carl III was declared Lord Protectorate of the English. He swiftly moved to quell the rebellions using excessive force and bribes. The empire was in turmoil for almost a total of two years before Carl had every city under his control.

1778: Carl cancels the treaty with the Persians and declares them infidels. A holy war is declared on the rest of the world. Diplomats from all nations are rounded up and killed for treason against the English people. Slowly the people begin to support him more. He then begins to move troops to the coasts to board ships to take them to Persia. He leaves England from the port of Hastings. He never returns to his home.
1780: The modernization of the Army is underway. Barracks are being built, and men are being trained to fight for the English destiny of a world ruled by them. Mongol raiders attack several of our cities but fail to do terrible amounts of damage. Carl is slightly concerned about the fact that his Great Grandfathers city Foxen is unguarded. He uses this as an example to push for a defense package that would put a veteran rifleman in every city. The English people are being whipped into a frenzy over reports of Persian atrocities. Carl demands that every man woman and child give to the church, so that God may help our soldiers in the battlefield. The church turns over huge sums of money to the Government. We now produce 982 gold and use only 76 of it. Carl has his holy war and the means to win it.
1782: The Persian Ayatollah calls for General elections. Carl attempts to overthrow one of the persian cities (Susa) but finds it too pricey. A Mongolian raiding party takes Brighton.
1784: Persian general elections are held, and the Republic of Persia is founded. This is the beginning of the end for the Persian empire. We begin to rush build riflemen (Not veterans) in some key areas for defense. Germans land near Arabela and attack, killing a spy (ouch) and a wounded calvaryman.
1786: Carl takes Pasagardae leading the citie'sown defenses against itself after bribing the commander of the Guard. Much to his chagrin, the United Nations brokers a peace deal that Carl has no choice but to sign. Carl has no plans to keep it. He now realizes that in order to win this war he must take the U.N.
1788: Zulus land on English territory and decimate Kev IV's defense. Carl is livid with the quality of troops that defend our homeland. The Persians break the cease fire killing a rifle battalion near Susa.
1790: Carl takes Gordium with a display of thousands of Persian slaves being tortured outside of Gordiums walls. He personally guaranteed that he would do the same to the citizens of Gordium if they failed to surrender. They did not disappoint and he gave every citizen 200 gold pieces for an oath of loyalty. He would need it, as the Persian Army, outnumbering the English Army 5 to 1 approached. A spy was prepared in Gordium to take out Bactra.
1792: Kev IV is lost to the Zulus. Carl uses this to push his Army reform bill. Carl's science advisors tell him of a Study of Religion, which is called Theology. Carl took several Fortresses around Tarsus. The war began to turn against the English though, as Gordium's defenses are smashed into bits. A dark hour indeed. But darker ones lie ahead.

1794: Carl attempts to take Susa by force, as most of his treasury was used in buying riflemen to defend to hinterland from raiding parties of Celts, Zulus, Mongols and Germans. He fails, and exhausts his entire Persian army on the attempt. Arabela stands empty on the Persian continent. Memphis is taken by the Germans. The Mongols take Brighton. London stands empty after a huge attack by Barbarians. Gordium's garrison is destroyed, only a spy prevent the city from standing empty. The entire English empire is on the edge of collapse due to garrisons which are not up to the standard and a huge battle which was lost.

1796: Carl realizes that maybe his only hope is to take the U.N. and force peace with the Persians and Mongols. He then hopes that his army which is being produced will be ready to strike hard at Persia when the cease fires expire. Carl rush builds several rifleman and uses the veteran spy at Gordium to attack Bactra. He makes a daring appearance at the U.N. assembly and declares any Persian who joins him will be granted a governship in the new country which he will rule. Entire regiments join him, and Carl leads them against the forces within the city. At the end of the day, the English are in control of the city and the U.N.
Carl attempts to sue for peace with the Mongols as their raids are affecting the English homeland. They refuse to answer. Several valient defensive stands save London from being captured. Several engineer units nearly died in defending London.

1798: This is the year when the war turned for the English. New, veteran units began appearing all over the Empire for service in Persia. They were quickly loaded onto transports, and sent to the Persian homeland. The English forces back home retake Kevin IV, Memphis, and Brighton in a series of stunning moves. Carl enters Susa by cover of darkness and bribes the commander of the garrison there. Susa is in English hands by morning. Every soldier that fought for the English cause is granted land on the island which will be called New Persia.

1800: On the homefront, Carl is wildly popular. His daring exploits have the English people enamored with him. Carl also is a great protector of the Arts. One particular musician, J.S. Bach, so impresses Carl that he commissions a Grand church in his honor. The church is built in Bristol, and truly is a wonder to behold. Four veteran Calvary land at Arabela. The Persian army, exhausted after their unsuccessful attacks on Gordium, retreat to Tarsus. They plan on using the fortress network there to defend the city and separate the two English armies. The English Navy is destroyed in a lopsided battle with German, Mongol, and Persian cruisers. The enemy controls the waves. Carl presses for a meeting with the German leader and gets her to sign a peace treaty.

1802: Barbarians land at Ajax and take the city. Carl uses the entire treasury to rush build artillery on the Persian homeland. He has a plan to avoid spilling too much English blood and eliminating

1804: Ajax is retaken by English partisans. Peace negotiations with the Celts and Zulus are successful and peace treaties are signed with both nations. Carl wants to get the army in place before he attacks these next nations. More rush building of artillery in Pasgardae, Antioch, and Giza. The Persian Army moves towards Antioch, preparing a devastating blow.

1806: On a cool day in Autumn, Carl led the largest army in English history onto the battlefield at Perseopolis. But the army wasn't the group of Englishmen that won the day. A group of five spies attacked the city walls of Persepolis. Three failed, but the 4th succeeded in destroying the walls around the capital. The army attacked, and with 7 battalions of artillery, three converted Persian Alpine troops, four Calvary regiments, and 1 persian fanatic, the mighty city of Persepolis fell. The Prime Minister of Persia is executed. The body is rushed to Tarsus and displayed in front of the city walls. Carl tells the leaders of the city to surrender and join the English empire or no one will escape Tarsus with their lives. Tarsus falls without a drop of English blood being spilled. The Persian Empire is destroyed.
Carl, who has made many enemies both foriegn and domestic during his reign, is assasinated by pro democracy left wingers in Flatlander, during the celebration of the city name changing. Nationwide mourning is held and a new leader must step forward.

Prognosis: Good. We don't have a Navy, and we still are at war with the Mongols, but you have 20 veteran calvary on the way and 10 artillery being built also. I think that soon we have to go back to Democracy or we can try and finish the game as a Fundy. Remember, strike the capital with our army, then buy up all of their cities when they are cheap. We can win in one hundred years IF we can get our troops onto enemy soil.

Things I screwed up on: No navy. It really hurt me when I kept having to fight wars on my own turf. I basically got lucky a few times, and took advantage of knowing what the bad guys were going to do before they did it. We NEED to kill the Mongols. They are really pissing me off with their attacks everywhere. You will have a veteran army very soon, I think that is the way to win.
Good Luck and keep Carl III's vision alive
