Succesion Game #1: Classic Team

I agree with both your points, Kev. The ten turns I played in the 'wrong' game weren't really exciting, the one who ends it should try to get as many points as possible (happyness!), and he should post here and wait until we agree (just in case).

I'll just play the turns of the game Håkan was meant to play, and then send it to Håkan.

Ok, I am fine with that solution!

One thought on ending the game could be to give each person on last turn. When it gets to Andu (I think he's the 'anchorman') he can either launch the ship (if available) or finish off the last city. In this way, everyone will have had the same amount of turns.

If it wouldn't be too much trouble, I would like to get a copy of the game before it ends (ie. last turn). If anything I would like to see how the world looks and maybe put it in my archives.

I would also be interested in another succession game. I am in the Classic Game #2 but it seems to be moving quite slowly.

I think it has been a great experience playing a game like this. Since we all have different strats and priorities, I think we got a peek into some historically accurate problems with empire building. Each different ruler changed something from his predecessor's reign and (for better or worse) tried to implement his policies during his short time in power. Bottom line, a "historically accurate" game of Civ.

I only can say this "Succession Game Rocks" I hope that we can play again very soon.

Ok. Here's my report. It seems to me like Håkan can finish the game!

1855 A.D. (1)
The new Prime Minister, Kevin V, has a main goal from the beginning: at least wipe one enemy out. His secondary goals were to research Flight, Radio, Advanced Flight and maybe something else.
His first act as a Prime Minister, was to order a transport, loaded with a spy, to subvert the Mongolian city of Kazan. For 2x 216 gold (=432 gold), the size 5 city agreed to join the glorious Englis democracy.
Also, the Zulu city of Ormuz was conquered with the help of the reinforcements coming from English Mongolia. Alliances were activated everywhere, resulting in a World War between the English and the rest of the world. Kevin V decides that his first victims are the Germans and the Zulus.

1856 A.D. (2)
Barbarians land near Indorin's End in the second year of Kevin V's reign over the English Empire, but they are destroyed very easily by the Cavalry of the city. A Celtic unit near Kazan was destroyed by our Cavalry because it was a serious threat to our city. The city of Khorasan joined our Empire for 329 gold, and two Mongolian Marines were bribed for 167 gold each on the Zulu Homeland. Reinforcements close their goals.

1857 A.D. (3)
Our nation discovers how man can fly! Two men, K.L. Klop and K.L. Heidrich build a prototype of an so called 'airplane' and they succeed in making a trip from Kevin City to Birmingham. They started a company called Kevin National Aviation Institute (KNAI), to the honor of the Prime Minister who gave them money for their revolutionary project.

The Zulus sneak attack us, but they lose the battle. This Zulu stupidity will be paid with their ashes. We all know: Revenge is a dish, best served cold!
And yes! Mpondo is conquered by Artillery units, and the partisans surrounding it are crushed by Marines.

1858 A.D. (4)
In new elections, Kevin V is once again chosen as Prime Minister. A new government is established, containing Kevin V and twelve ministers.
A Celtic city is discovered on the Island of Thunder (island left of our homeland). Luckily, a spy is near to bribe it. For 834 gold, the city joins our ranks, and the spy escapes unharmed to Maesteg, the city it just bribed. For 804 gold, another city on the same island is bribed, called Dynas Powys. The Island of Thunder is back in English hands (it used to be an island for military drills and training before the soldiers were sent to Egypt).
The city of Ormuz on the Celtic Homeland was bribed for 1506 gold as well. The Celtic druid Cunibolin was afraid Kevin V might continue to bribe his empire, and wanted a peace treaty. Though Kevin V expected a sneak attack by Celtic forces the next turn, he decided to sign the treaty.
The Mongolian city of Naples was destroyed by a Artillery unit, leaving just one known Mongolian city on the map: Quinsay, on the Zulu homeland. A Mongolian and a Zulu partisan is destroyed and an invasionfleet of 2 transportship is destroyed as well. On the transport ships were together 6 units.
The farmland project near London is complete and all engeneers go to Nottingham.
A total amount of 812 gold is the profit of the 4 freights (gold and dye), all reached a goal in New Holland. Kevin V is thinking of setting the taxes higher, but he tells himself to wait until his civilization has researched how to throw 1000kg (2000lb) bombs out of airplanes, which means the airplanes have to have good engines for one thing.
The city of Diemer Bos is founded (Bos=Forest). 'Why do you write this down, and not all the other cities you have founded?' asked a journalist. 'Hear me, pretty boy' Kevin V answered in Louis van Gaal-style 'Are you that dumb or am I that smart?'.'You haven't done your research, mister! This is my third year as Prime Minister and you still don't know the Diemer Bos is the forest next to my house (in Driemond, little village, inhabitants: 1500 people, a few cats, dogs and cows, and last but not least my sister ).

1859 A.D. (5)
The Zulus destroy a partisan regiment, but that doesn't matter; we have loads of strong cavalry and alpine units who are eager to fight! A Mongolian engeneer unit is destroyed, the road to the last known Mongolian city is open, and units start to move towards the doomed city. Two cavalry units destroy the fanatic and the alpine regiment defending the city, and a partisan occupies the now undefended city. The Mongolian civilization is no more; English destroy Mongolian civilization in 1858 A.D.
A total of 6 units, who were a threat to Lyons and Ormuz, is destroyed in two attacks by cavalry units. The army is waiting for a spy to destroy the Zimbabwe City Wall. The city of Hlobane is conquered, and the Zulus want a peace treaty, which is signed because our units stand on very weak positions.
The English civilization now knows the secret of Radio. Advanced Flight is the next goal.
1859 A.D. was the year that Kevin V told his ministers about his ideas. He said that after Advanced Flight was discovered, religion would be playing a far more larger role in the English society, meaning that the government would change to Fundamentalism, just for the money, so we can bribe the enemy's cities.

1860 A.D. (6)
The city of Zimbabwe is bribed, and the treasury falls to 386 gold. The Zulus declare war and activate their alliance with the Celts. The English government falls, it's a bit early, but Kevin V doesn't care; our civilization will soon be fundamentalistic. There are only two knwon Zulu cities left, Ulundi and Intombe. Ulundi's City Wall is destroyed. After long attacks which cost the English severale units, Ulundi is conquered. Partisans surround the city, but a peace treaty is signed.
A celtic cruiser is destroyed by one of our own cruisers.

1861 A.D. (7)
Two Cruisers and a Destroyer are destroyed by two English Cruisers. Our naval units near the Celtic coast report civil disorder in all Celtic cities. It seems like Cunibolin has problems in his empire as well. A great moment for an attack. Too bad that our units are needed elsewhere; their primary objective is to wipe out the Zulu.
Two transports with spies and cavalry units aproach their goal: Bonn, the last German city.
The English government is now Fundamentalistic and Kevin V proclaimed Reverand.

1862 A.D. (8)
This year should have been an election year, but because the English changed government.....
Science is set to 80%, resulting in a discovery every 5 turns. Taxes are 20%. Income is 1286, cost is 275. This means more than 1000 gold profit every turn. Advanced Flight is discovered, Kevin V thinks that bombers could be of use for later leaders, who might want to change the government back to democracy.
English soldiers attack Swansea and win the battle. Swansea is English. Cunibolin gets scared and wants a peace treaty, which is signed. Kevin V wants to wait with a war against the Celts until the Zulus and Germans are destroyed.

1863 A.D. (9)
Cavalry units attack Bonn, the Germans activate alliances with Zulus and Celts. The cavalry units destroy the German defences, and a SETTLER conquers the last German city.
A transport filled with Alpine units, Cavalry units and Artillery units move to Intombe and land. One Zulu Alpine unit is destroyed and one of our Alpines moves in. Zulu civilization destroyed by English!. This leaves only the Celts and English on this world, and we all know: the Celts will die soon. Resistance is futile! The Celtic cities of Llangolen and Iona are conquered, and a peace treaty is signed. Our reputation is 'Atrocious' tells the foreign minister. 'I don't care. The world is ours and they all know it.' answered Kevin V.
A spy finds 200 gold in an abandoned village on the north pole.

1864 A.D. (10)
The Celts sneak attack the English. How stupid can a civilization be? They know we are far stronger than they are! Kevin V goes shopping again, for amount of 1004 gold, Kabul is English, now. Cunibolin is enraged and wishes to talk to Kevin V, this results in a cease fire, a good oppurtunity to bring some reinforcements (spies) to the Celtic homeland. Kevin V takes a look at the world map, and he sees that whole West-Celtica is in English hands.
Intelligence report: The Celtic city of Caernarfon has four units defence: three riflemen and an alpine.

1865 A.D. (11)
The city of Durrow is bribed for 893 gold, and the (stupid) Celtic Fundamentalism doesn't even declare war but just condemns it. Kevin V sees this as a sign of weakness. 'Soon, the Celtic homeland will be ours, and then, all the other small cities on small islands will be conquered!' Engeneers work better than ever before, more and more railroads and farmland is build. Proserity is filling everybody's minds and purses.

1866 A.D. (12)
The Celts attack us, and break the cease fire agreement with that attack.
English scientists discover a way to throw people out of airplanes without killing them; Combined Arms is discovered. The next goal is Rocketry. A spy leaves Ormuz, on its way to Carmarthen. Our first Armor unit destroys three enemy units and fortifies within a fortress on a mountain.

1867 A.D. (13)
Carmarthen is bribed for 936 gold. Caernarfon is conquered by Alpine Troops and Cavalry units. Three riflemen are bribed and moved in to Caernarfon.

1868 A.D. (14)
Cardiff is conquered by the English. There are only three more cities left on the island, and about three or four on other islands. A spy is on its way to bribe one of the cities on the island, and a large invasion army is heading for the Celtic capital Illaunting. A direct attack on the city of Caerphilly costs us five units (armor, 2 artillery, 2 cavalry) and the Celts lose three units (2 riflemen, alpine troop).

1869 A.D. (15)
The final year of Kevin V's reign over the English civilization. Caerphilly is bribed for 1800 gold (don't know the exact amount this time). There are just two other cities on the island, which should be conquered.
Another Celtic city is discovered! It's on English Zulu. A full scaled attack is launched on the city, called Rhayader. This results in the total anihilation of all defending units in the city, but the units are to tired to walk into the city.
Tax is reset to 20%, and science to 80%. We get a new advance every 4 turns and our 'profit' is about 1300 gold.

Take us home, Hakan!

Flatlander - I like your point about different leaders having different agendas and the effect this has on a civilization's direction and ultimate success. Just think, we were at times ruling for hundreds of years at some times as well!!

Count me in if this team wants to begin a Succession Game #3.

A.D. 1870

In 1870 the new Lord Protector Håkan Eriksson IV were to lead the Powerfull english civilization! He started out in middle of the war against the Celts. The evil Celts that are the final civilization that stand in our way. When we destry them will we become the unquestion able rulers of the WORLD!

Håkan Eriksson IV were a complete militaristic man. Who we determined to detroy the Celts as soon as posible! He didn't think so much of the well being of his peole as for the size of his army. He decided to bouild a grate army and cruch the Celts emidiantly. But to build a army that grate he neaded mony. Even tho he wanted the civilization advance of Rokety he decided to change the tax from 80% sience and 20% tax to the oposite, 20% sience and 80% tax.

In all cities that completes city improvments Capitalisation is inserted to make more and more money.

The first task the army got was to get rid of all partians around Cardif and other cities. "Wath idiot have left them all almone to do wath ever they want?" Håkan Eriksson sad.

The spy just outside Armagh were set to incite a revolt in Armagh. After we payed 1630 gold they were more that willing to join the glorius English empier. Even thos she were successfull she were captured after completing her mission. But as rvange 188 gold were plunderd in Armagh. Some pathetic desperate partisans took to the hills out side the city.

And on another continent our Alpine troops captured the Celtic city of Rhayader, 48 gold were plunderd. There to some desperate partisans took to the nerby hills.

A.D. 1871

A nother of our skilled spies were sent out on a Revolt mission. The Celtic city of Tintagle were bribed for 830 gold. But 205 gold were plunderd. The spy were captured after compleating her mission.

Two crusiers emptied the city Neath fo all it's militaries.

A group of Alpine troops found a new celtic city next to Rhayader.

A.D. 1872

A transport with a armor came upp near the Celtic Capital of Illauntanig and the arom unit stormed th city and killed some alpined troops and a fighter finished the rest of the troops inside the city. Altho outside the city is it not quite so emptie. But thanks to a parratrope unit we manage to capture the capital anyway! 77 gold pices were plunderd. And thanks to our two crusiers the city of Neath were emptied (but only one surived). And one parratropes captured the city! Also a third city were takend, The city of Aberystwyth.

ONLY ONE CITY LEFT

Excellent job, team Classic!!

Hope we can start another soon.

I think the MGE team that started at the same time is lost in the 1200's somewhere.

I think you should have played the rest of your turns as well, with an 100% luxury rate. It gives a 'baby boom' and the points are higher as well. Maybe we could have made a 220% score?

This way we get a better finish date.

Victory!!!

Sounds like it's time for another game. Kev, Willem, Flatlander, and I have indicated that we're ready to start another game. (Smash, in the latest MGE Succession post, reports Cedric appears to be missing in action). Thunder? Hakan?

I'd recommend limiting the number players to seven or less ...

Also, I propose we nominate our enemies. (I prefer the rational-expansionism of the Spanish as an opponent; they always seem to provide a good challenge.) Then we can take one of those not nominated as our civilization.

Finally, having written all these accounts of our reigns, should we submit this as a Timeline? (If Thunder is willing to format, I'd be willing to edit the accounts.)

Again, congratulations on a good game!

(P.S. Somebody tell me how to get that international character so I can spell Hakan's name correctly!)

Since we played this last game as the English, I think it would be interesting to play AGAINST them in game #3. I agree with Andu as well about limiting the amount of players. So many other games have stalled out (including the MGE team that started the same time that we did) that I am somewhat wary about adding too many. I know that this team has been very efficient.

A timeline based on the reports would be great if everyone is willing to do what's necessary. If I can help let me know.

Great job everybody!
You played in timely fashion and finished fairly quick for a succession game.
I've almost lost all hope for MGE#1...and the Zulu game..and classic#2 is not exactly zipping along....maybe I am the kiss of death.
