Succession Game Anyone?

What's a sucession game? If it involves actually playing AC, and not doing an RP bull**** (no offence, guy whose name I forgot), then I'm in. You don't know how long I've been looking for an AC multiplayer game. It seems like every site related to AC has been defunct for about a year. However, I just picked up my copy about nine months ago, so I've been sort of screwed. I'm addicted to (and fairly good with) this game. Seriously, I need MP, the AI is laughable. The only way they defeat you is if you blunder horribly. Otherwise, for the most part, they see nothing coming. It's sickening. Sorry for the long post, but I'm so happy to find a non-defunct place talking about AC.

I'd be interested in a Succession game. What faction? Difficulty? SMAC or SMAX?

@mathwizard1232 - A Succession game is one in which four to six humans or so play as one faction. One player plays ten turns, then passes it off to the next player, who plays ten turns and passes it off, etc. So, no, it isn't a multiplayer game.

Oh, sounds interesting. Sure, I'd do that. I would do any faction, any difficulty above talent, and I don't have AX, so I would say that's out.

So, an old faction. Of the old factions, my favorites are the Gaians and University. I usually play on Transcend, Thinker/Librarian if I'm trying something different.

How about:

Gaians
Thinker
Large Map
50-70% Water
Average Rockiness
Average Native Life
Dense Cloud Cover

That sound good?

Yeah, sounds great to me. I have to say, those are some of my favorites too, although I like the Spartans more than the University.

Something I forgot to ask... Blind research on or off? It annoys the hell out of me, so I usually play with it off, but if other people want it on, we can play with it on. I'm generating the game now.

EDIt: Something else -- we'll use the SMAC 4.0 patch, available here.

Please god, blind research off! I mean, you're right, if someone's really against it, then we can play with it on, but I seriously hate the bull$%$%. I mean, in the beginnning, you're only rediscovering technology, so obviously you'd know what comes before what.

Since we only have a few people who seem interested, we'll make this a semi-Open succession game. Step in and play ten turns if you want, and you'll be inserted into that slot on the roster.

So:

2101 - We pop a Unity Pod and get a Transport. Moderately useful. We can see Garland Crater under the fog, so our extra Colony Pod heads in that direction. Gaia's Landing starts a Former. Set research on Biogenetics.

2102 - Pop another Unity Pod and get a Monolith and a promotion to Green. Turn on "Always investigate Monoliths." Switch Gaia's landing to work the Monolith.

2103 - Not much.

2104 - Gaia's Landing completes its Former and starts a Colony Pod. Pop another pod and get Mindworms and a Mineral bonus. At least the odds always seem much better on the first one. (Anyone know more about the first-mindworm bug?)

IT - Mindworm attacks our Scout Patrol and dies. The Scout Patrol is now Disciplined.

2105 - Not much.

2106 - Thorny Vineyard (Mankind's first base since Planetfall - What have you other factions been up to!?) founded. It's just outside Garland Crater, so the Crater is secured. Thorny Vineyard starts a Scout Patrol.

2107 - Discover Biogenetics. Since Social Psych isn't available for the SotHB beeline, I set research to Doctrine: Mobility. (As opposed to Information Networks or Applied Physics.) "The University made mankind's first breakthrough in 2105," so we're doing pretty good.

Pop a pod at the bottom of Garland Crater and get another Monolith. Thorny Vineyard completes its Scout, which I move southward, and starts another.

IT - Mindworms land near Gaia's Landing. Ugh.

2108 - Our Transport pops a pod and gets an Alien Artifact. Wonderful!

2109 - Not much.

2110 - Thorny Vineyard completes its Scout Patrol and starts a Former. We pop yet another pod and get yet another Monolith.

Question, how do you get your screenshots to work. I know I saw this somewhere on the site already, but I'm lazy, so I don't want to search for it.

Okay, so I did my turn. This is my first time in succession, so feel free to flame me if I do something wrong.

2111: Discovered Doctrine:Mobility. Went for Social Psych, hoping to still be able to get SotHB first. Noticed small MW near GL. Sent scout near GC to ML. Other scout near GL found a MW, and captured it. Nutrients found near GL. Will teraform, but they aren't an improvement over other tiles yet, so no switch. Also got 25 energy in a pod.

2112: Notice the small MW near GL moved away. Found another AA. Started terraforming a mine on the minerals spot. Pod found nutrients on other side of GC. Upgraded captured MW in ML.

2113: MW near GL moved back. I'm sending the two AAs to GL, plan to use one on a prototype. (Is this a good idea? I think so, it seems like you never have enough NNs for all the AAs, so they're best used on prototypes and SPs.) Upgraded scout in ML. Captured MW exploring fungus. Pod gave 75 credits.

2114: MW near GL moved closer. Scout waiting for it to move close enough to be able to attack. Colony Pod built in GL. I'm sending it to the other side of GL, to monolith and nutrients. Changed GL to prototype Scout Rover. Used AA to complete. MW found by MW. Battle won.

IL: First prototype ever.

2115: Scout finds and captures MW unit. Unity Foil finds Isle. ****. GL starts on another rover scout. Built prototype heads towards that rouge MW near GL. (It just hasn't been moving right, and I want to attack it, not defend, for obvious reasons.) Pod causes earthquake near GL.

2116: Unity foil dies. :( TV completes former. It starts building road towards new base. Pod gives energy. Rover defeats MW near GL. (Finally! That thing was getting on my nerves!)

2117: Pod: Industrial Base and nutrients found near GC.

2118: Social Psych discovered. SotHB in reach! Unity rover found in pod! AA found! Enemy MW killed! All seems well!

2119: I killed another MW. Nutrients and Information Networks found in pod near GL. NN can now be built, but do we want to yet?

2120: ****! University discoved SotHB. Otherwise, nothing much.

Question, would it be considered in bad form to go back and redo that? I mean, right as I was about to discover SotHB, U does. That sucks.

To get a screenshot from Alpha Centauri to appear at all, you need to take the screenshot and paste it into your paint-esque program without exiting Alpha Centauri. (Use the Windows button.)

It would be bad form, and the University would still get SotHB first, anyway. The AI always beelines, and it's pretty rare to be able to beat the University to it.

Oh, and this early a Forest would have been better on the Minerals than a Mine. I think that tile is Flat, so a Mine won't do much. A Forest would give us a 1-4-1 tile.

In the future, save Alien Artifacts for SPs; Prototypes are pretty irrelevant this early, and the Thinker AI puts up serious competition on the Human Genome Project and the Weather Paradigm, both of which are key to pulling ahead early on.

All right, thank-you. If protoypes are irrelevant, should I have still put the time into building a rover speeder? Also, should I try to get a screenshot up each time?

-looks above- Holy****! You get up early!

I think it was something like 8:15 my time when I posted that... Not ridiculously early. I was up at 7 today. Getting ready to be able to get up for school on the 2nd :/

Anyway, anyone else who wants to take this, do so. I'll take it if no one else has in 24 hours.
