Succession game for RFC RAND?

Nice start although I think we're intruding on German turf...we'll see. Spain's nowhere in sight...hm.

Are we not going for Notre Dame as part of our 2/3 UHV? (Rome being alive makes it so much harder because they usually gun for engineering)

I'll play my moves this afternoon.

So this is Large, cold, high likelihood? Too bad its not huge, should make domination pretty easy.

This start looks fine to me, so lets see if we can make it work, rather than each of us upload a start. If say, Portugal spawns and flips 4 cities, we can start again (This has happened to me btw, the flip mechanics are bizarre to say the least).

If Rome already has Engineering already, I vote we don't try for Notre Dame. We'd need 15ish turns to research, and we don't seem to have stone anyways?

Can you make sure we tag the next player in each post, just so I can keep it straight who goes when?

1. Turn 176 Church of Nativity is built somewhere in Rome. But the AP isn't!
2. 177 We meet Germany who's building towards us up in the north. We meet Arabia who's pleased with us, so we open borders.
3. 178 Carthage dies. We trade code of laws to Rome for calendar + 20g
4. 179 Faux pas with Vikings who becomes just cautious with us (they built Stockholm on the coast next to Lyon)
5. 180 Lyon expands to BFC
6. 181 (900 AD) uneventful
7. 910 I took a gamble to build the Colosseum (9 moves). It was that or the Great Wall since the barbs are streaming in from the south. There is some marble nearby in the south, but until we see Portugal I think we should hold off.
8. 920 Ostia captured by barbs, Rome becomes unstable/collapsing
9. 930 Freaking slave revolt in Orleans, I pay some money to calm them down.
10. 940 Ethiopia collapses without meeting us.

There are no wonders at all. Even the Colossus hasn't been built yet. We should get more productive cities going and build some of them.

MAM, tag, you're it.

Sorry, I forgot to tell you I tried to use RFC RAND "optimized" which may be causing your problems. I had to reinstall 3.17 and RFC (original + RAND) completely.

Okay, first off, RFC optimized will not work with this, as soon as I uninstalled it the game worked fine.

950-uneventful
960-Stockholm's culture expands
970-Caesar asks us to cancel deals with Arabia, we refuse
980-Start galley in Marseille, whip forge in Lyon
990-Start courthouse in Lyon
1000-Finish Paper, start Compass, finish Colosseum in Paris, start Mausoleum of Maussollos
1010-Whip walls in Orleans, courthouse in Lyon, Galley in Marseille
1020-Start courthouse in Marseille, spy in Lyon, send galley off exploring
1030-Vikings declare war on Germany, Rhegium(Roman) captured by Arabia
1040-uneventful

Comments: I went for compass because no one else has researched it yet and I'm assuming we're going to steal some techs. I think we should declare war on Vikings because I built up all our extra troops along their border and it'll be good for our relations with Germany. I think we should at least try to take Stockholm and Birka for terretorial reasons.

I believe kbk's next.

MAM you read my mind regarding the Vikings. That's why I built the Colosseum. But we don't even have civil service yet for macemen. I would love to have a great spy for our first great person.

We already have a significantly large force, big enough to take at least Birka and from what I've seen of the Viking army it's not that big. Plus, you have to remember they're at war with Germany as well, who could greatly help us in this endeavour if we play our cards right. Plus, I was figuring on stealing Civil Service from the Vikings and then trading with Arabia for Guilds if possible since they're friendly with us. This would give us a significant military tech lead but will probably take some luck. Anyway, that's what I propose.

P.S.-Mercenaries are out of the question, we have next to no money.

Thanks Quotey for the screens, that's a pleasure :D

If the other players could post some too, it would be reaaaaaally nice ;)

Before downloading: uninstalling the optimizations for RAND :(

Turn 0 (1040): Germany wants to trade maps, we get 20 gold + their map for ours.
Turn 1 (1050): Poison Gas kills our miners near Paris, I pay to rebuild the mine (we need that iron!). Beg 10 gold from Arabia. Set espionage to Vikings. Whip Courthouse in Marseilles.
Turn 2 (1060): Set Marseilles to Barracks. Add Spy and Scientist to specialists in Marseilles, as it already has way too much chance of an engineer.
Turn 3 (1070): Uneventful.
Turn 4 (1080): Refuse to gift Vikings horseback riding. They drop to cautious. Finish forge in Orleans, set to courthouse.
Turn 5 (1090):
Meet India. Gave them 15 gold to make them friendly and willing to trade Meditation. Traded monotheism + world map for meditation their map. Begged 10 gold back from India. Islamic missionaries reach Orleans and spread their word. We refuse to set it as state religion since the Germans are Christians. Finish spy in Lyon, start building walls. Send the spy to Viking lands.
Turn 6 (1100): Bede declares mighty France the 4th largest civilization. Little does he know of our mighty destiny. Finished barracks in Marseilles, set to amphitheater. We have an oppurtunity that I decided we had to seize. Barbarian horseman have reduced the defenses in Birka to a lone catapult. I was hoping for Germany to ask us to join their war, but either we join in now, or someone else takes Birka (probably barbarians). Declare war and invade!

Turn 7 (1110): We take Birka, killing a longbowman who hadn't had a chance to fortify and catapult. We lost 2 Swordsman and an Axeman. Set Birka to walls, and fortify the troops. Islam spreads into the rest of our cities. Spy arrives in Stockholm, open borders with Germany.
Turn 8 (1120): We lose a straggling horse archer to a crossbowman. Finish compass, set research to philosophy.
Turn 9 (1130): Paris finishes Mausoleum, set to Great Wall. Lost an axeman to that damned crossbowman (The RNG must really be stacked against us!). I send Lyons' longbowman to finish off the crossbowman. Lyon finishes walls, set to Islamic monastary. Whipped courthouse in Orleans.
Turn 10 (1140): Portugal spawns on our doorstep!!! I played ahead to see what would flip, and then reloaded:

Future directions: Decide whether or not to flip Marseilles. We're in a bind here, as Marseilles is about 4 turns from a 50/50 shot at a great spy! We may be able to fend of the Portuguese long enough to get the great person, and sue for peace, then again, our troops our all up in Birka. So now its time for me to cede the seat to Maax.

We should sue for peace with the Vikings when they are willing, and our spy in Stocholm is expertly positioned to steal some techs soon.

Why did I get the hard choice :( I will play tomorrow so please decided. Should we marseille go or not as i feel this is big thing and I should know your opinions about it.

I would have built some much needed troops in Paris rather than start on the Great Wall. We need a seaport, unless we plan to kill Portugal later, so I vote for not allowing the flip. Since they only have crossbowmen and pikemen, we can counter with plain longbowmen and a catapult. Build some walls in Marseilles and we should be fine (shuttling troops into Marseilles only when their troops show up). A horse archer placed on the copper south of Lisboa might have been lucky since the AI often leaves an empty city the 2nd move. Or should we have met the Portuguese and declared war at start (to avoid the extra troops) before they founded Lisboa?

Saying no means we lose Marseilles anyway because of new portuguese troops. Saying yes and we lose it and can take it back on our own terms.

Think we should let them have it, peace with Vikes and swing back to kill of Portugal.

By switching to build troops in in all our cities, we can defend Marseilles. We need the port, and we will lose culture and buildings and great person progress if we allow the flip. So slave-whipped troops + the Colosseum in Paris should let us last long enough to get a peace treaty with Portugal.

We definitely need to make peace with the Vikings as soon as their willing, we can't afford a 2 front war right now.

I say we say no as well, Marseille is too important a city to let go of. kbk's proposal of defence seems fine to me.

Started playing now. Option selected is NO!

I kind of doubt it will happen, but if my turn comes up before Sunday night, you'll have to skip me as I'll be out of town.

Oh, ya, that reminds me I'll be out of town from Tuesday until Saturday(with little or no computer access) but after that I should be home for the next month so no worries.

Turn 1 - 1150 AD

Said no to marseille flip. Whipped some troops and started to prepare for war with portugal.

Turn 2 - 1160 AD

Incas born. Made peace with vikings and they gave me 20 gold. Made nice trade with arabia who is currently our best friend. He is currently equal to us in tech but seems to be in war with roman empire who is next to them as they are falling in stability and tech rate.

I just noticed that we have alot unimproved terrain.

Turn 3 - 1170 AD

We have only 2 worker left as they all join portugal... Nothing else happened

Turn 4 - 1180 AD

Nothing importand happened

Turn 5 - 1190AD

Traded maps with arabia. I was right romans were in war with arabia and currently everybody who we know hate arabia so he will should not be a threat in future. Great scientist born in merseile with chances of 20%...

Turn 6 - 1200 AD

Lost with 70% odds to barbarians and even more trooops joined portugal and lost another worker.

Turn 7 - 1210 AD

Nothing importand

Turn 8 - 1220 AD

Killed some barbarians

Turn 9 - 1230 AD

Germany made apostolic palace and great libary was builded in a far away land. Made corn for crab trade with vikings.

Turn 10 - 1240 AD

Great wall finished.

Objectives for next guy.
Get peace with portugal as we are loosing troops fast.
Make infrastructure.
We were unlucky and got great scientist so we could not steal civil service from vikings yet. Steal it!
Meybe settle one city more.

If you move the workers out of the spawn area, they won't flip to Portugal, same with troops. You can move troops into the spawn area only when you see their troops moving to attack one of your cities.
