Suggest a good non-gritty/realistic action movie!

OK so I'm fed up with these ''gritty'' and realistic action movies that are taking over the genre. Nonsense fun action movies have been relegated to bargain basement fodder starring men with sex slaves or moustaches that were cool twenty years ago.

So I'm starting this thread so we can reacquaint each other with the greatest action movies ever made, specifically those during the 80/90s Golden Era of Action Nonsense.

The sort of movies I'm refering to:

Red Dawn
Rocky - Arguably from the 3rd/4th installment (Excluding Balboa)
Commando
Red Scorpion
The Running Man
Rambo (etc.)
Total Recall
Demolition Man
Face/Off
Conair
The 13th Warrior
The Rock

Also to promote discussion, what do you think of the recent trend of 80s remakes? Will it reinvigorate the genre of nonsense/unrealistic action, or just reinvent them into 21st Century realistic interpretations of the franchises? What do you make of the upcoming remakes of Red Dawn, The A Team, and the 80s action star extravaganza The Expendables?
I've seen most of the Schwarzenegger movies, and The Running Man is one of my favorites.

Total Recall - that's the one that took place on Mars, isn't it?

Yep. It was based on Philip K. Dick's We Can Remember It For You Wholesale. It was my favourite movie as a child, which shocked me when I watched it again recently because it is insanely violent. Graphic too.

Inglourious Basterds,
while it is one of my favorite movies of alltime, the plot is extremley unrealisitic...

uhh, Commando isn't that realistic.

When I was a kid it seemed realistic (I was very naive). But watching it as an adult now days. It's just painfully hilarious. Good comedy movie though.

total recall is gritty?

perhaps we should clarify the definition of gritty.

I always considered gritty films to be realistic war films. Saving Private Ryan is the definition of gritty in my book. Although non war films can be gritty if they opt for a low key approach to action with less flash. I consider Blade Runner (a sci fi film) to be gritty as well.

So most action films tend to be flashy and therefore non-gritty. Total recall I consider to be non-gritty. Unless you think graphic violence (R rating versus a pg-13 action film) to be gritty. I don't.

Star Wars Episodes IV - VI

Go watch Hong Kong action movies:

The Killer, Hard Boiled, Infernal Affairs, A better tomorrow. They all kick ass.

Crap????

I think you are mistaking my friend, those are fantastic movies.

I think US Marshalls is pretty good, not sure if it's quite what you're looking for though.
