What the title says. ;)

The CFC forums are getting pretty big and old and we got lots of good threads buried deep within the recesses here and there. Instead of letting these gems gather dust, and eventually to be deleted away, why don't we keep them in a museum-styled forum? :)

Highlights of this proposed forum : -
1) No new threads or posts - for reading only. All threads will be locked.
2) To be put at the bottom of Colosseum, or maybe the CivFanatics side, below Site Feedback. But better, the former, so that the Colloseum mods (or rather me actually :p ) can supervise it.
3) Maybe a stickied working thread in the subforum (or elsewhere) for suggested threads to be put there.
4) Maybe divided into 4 sections (subforums) - Civ3, Civ2, Colosseum, Civfanatics.
5) Threads must be reasonably old (say 3-6 mths w/o new posts), and have no reasonable chance of being resurrected.

We'll always have a stream of new posters streaming into CFC; so we can have it as a kind of showcase of what CFC had been, and impress on them our history as a site and forum. Also good for the 'old' vets to have a good laugh, at old times. :D

I think this is a very good idea K-D

A lot of forum history can be found if you dig deep enough.

Ah yes, I remember the good ol' days... Back when this was just a Civ2 forum. We could even have sigs with graphics back then, i.e. Cunobelin of Hippo's cool list. I had a lot of fun reading the forums even without OT. Great idea.

I love this idea; go for it. :)

That sounds like a great idea, XIII. It would make looking for this site's history much easier. Perhaps old staff forum posts could be moved there too...after all, what harm could come from the regular posters viewing 2-year-old staff forum posts?

I'm all for it :) When the search was on I often found myself looking for good old threads that I have good memories from.

I say go for it... It sounds look a reasonably good idea to me.

No, not staff threads. Those shall remain secret forever! Or at least until you become a mod.

Which is about the same I guess. :mischief:

Vote, guys! :undecide:

:hmm: I think boots is to curious about the staff forum....

Maybe you should "silence" him

A great idea! There are some classic threads and posts we should definately remember.

My suggestion for a post to be at the top of that museum - AoA's post describing what he's been through during sep 11th. It's a facinating post, and I think it's a must read. He locked it on sep 11th or 12th 2002 when someone brough it back to life.

Edit:
Here's the post he made:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3423

And I think it was orignaly in here:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3415&pagenumber=1

Both these threads are important, though from a forum history POV the first one is more important mile stone. Both need their code to be cleaned up a bit though.

Tentatively, I'm thinking of maybe 3 or 4 subforums, to divide up prospective threads betw the Civ3, Civ2, Other threads. Yes, may I remind you this is a Civ site. ;)

In the main forum, I'll have three threads : -

A Welcome thread (locked)
A Suggestions thread - for suggested threads to add to the Museum
A Visitors Book thread - for posters to comment

All the exhibit threads will be locked, to prevent flaring up of old arguments. ;)

I like the idea, particutaley since at least one of my roman army articles is bound to end up in there :D (and so the name of Xen shall revel in glory for ever!)

but while were at it, could we add a historical map exibit, pleeeeese :D

Sounds like a good Idea. Would it go into the archives or have its own separate froum.

I agree! Another waste of all-to-valuable server space, needed to store my thousands of posts of spam. ;)

While I do like the idea of a museum, can't we set it up on the other servers? You know, save the forum, but still have access to things that could be important like that.

Sounds good to me, but I am afraid of more server problems by adding more forums.

I don't think the museum will take too much server space, especially since these posts are already on the server and after being put in the museum there's no need to keep them in their original forum.
