Sweden Civilization preview

Mobilize,he's called Olof Rudbeck, not Olaf. :) Otherwise the list seems good (though it's much harder to find omissions than it is to find erroneous facts).

"Karl Bonde" is, btw, almost invariably refered to as "Karl Knutsson Bonde".
While Bonde means farmer in Swedish, it might be interesting to know that this is the name of one of the oldest noble families in Sweden. :)
I know TLC knows this btw, this is most for all them furriners out there...

Yes, the old Swedish noble family names were quite funny, before they imported all the foreign nobles.

Further info already known by TLC and mrtn but amusing for the furriners:
The -son was attached to the fathers name to make the "first last name", while the "last last name" was the name of the entire family.
So, Gustaf Eriksson Wasa had a father named Erik "something"-son Wasa, where "something" would be Gustaf's grandfathers first name. Cool tradition. :)

Iztvan, that tradition is still active in Russian. :)
(Guess we'll have to talk about genealogy until Civarmy returns with some fresh previews ;) )

Yes, I know, I'm so jealous... I always found the Icelandic tradition of taking your fathers name + son (or dottir) cool when I was young. Then I learned about the russian way, "why choose, when you can have both".

Döbeln from the last Russian war belongs on the listof military leaders, I think.

And Fredrik Ljungström as Scientific Laeder... great!  Are you swedish, Mobilize? Or is your sense of humor so great that it trancends national, linguistical and ethnic boundraries? :p

the new arts are here! thanks for the tips!

Interesting. My father's family is Norwegian. Great grandfather's name is Jon so I have a ton of relatives named Johnson.

Grandfather's generation (all 10 boys) left Norway for the USA. Grandpa Ole was the youngest & last to make it to America. He took his father's "last last name" Everyone else took Johnson as the last name. Ole's last name (mine & Jon's) is much more difficult for Americans to pronounce.

I always thought Ole's brothers just took the name "Johnson" to seem more British...

TLC/mrtn: I thought ø wasn't a Swedish letter but it said so on the website. I'll fix with your corrections.

Iztvan: I'm no Swede, I'm Cherokee. But Fredrik Ljungström invented the steam turbine, tell me that he doesn't earn right to be a scientific leader.

-> Mobilize
 Oops... Got the names mixed up between two different persons, Lindström and Ljungström. Silly, ignorant me!

Your city list looks good, except it's "Värnamo" (VÄRNAMO) not Vämamo.
Five of the cities are from Skåne, which was conquered from the danes some centuries ago, so maybe they belong on a city list for Denmark instead? The cities in question are Malmö, Lund, Helsingborg, Halmstad and Ängelholm. I don't know if the last three were founded before or after the war, but Lund & Malmö are definately much older.

I'll change Vämamo to Värnamo. Also Malmö, Lund, Helsingborg, Hamstad and Ängelholm should remain Swedish because they are rather large cities plus they've been Swedish for such a long time.

People always bring up conquered cities. Those cities were indeed once Danish yet supported a large Swedish populated and have been a part of Sweden for such a long time, plus it isn't part of the Jutland Penninsula.

Here is a swedish city list with 65 cities based on historical importance, size and foundation date. If you don't want former danish cities in southern Sweden (Lund, Malmö, Helsingborg etc.) you can take the finnish cities founded by Sweden (Åbo, Helsingfors, Viborg etc.) It depends on the scenario it will be used, like if Finland or Denmark is used in the same scenario.
