Hello, I'm new to this site, but not entirely new to Civ. I was a pretty big Civilization 1 fan when it came out, didn't have much time for Civ II when that came out cause I was a senior in College but recently heard about Civ III so thought I'd give it a shot, looks cool and might be different than Empire Deluxe! (Has anybody played that? just curious..
Anyway, onto business, I meet the very basic minimum when it comes to processor speed, I'm curious if you think it is truly playable (not just works) with the following config:
PII-300Mhz running on a Shuttle HOT-637 mobo
128MB RAM
SCSI (Adaptec 2940U) system
Seagate Barracude SCSI 4gig drive
STB Velocity 128 AGP card
Soundblaster 32 PnP (ANCIENT!!!!!!!, kind of like the Julius Caesar of sound cards)
So, although I/O is quite fast with the SCSI bus, my processor is a bit old. I think the board does have a 100Mhz system bus so I might be able to pop in a new processor. But I'm just curious if you think I'll have any problems. I cannot overclock the processor either... I get tons of IPFs if I do. I am also running Win2k.
Thanks for any hints and looking forward to getting back into the Civ Life..
Jay
