I haven't seen any threads on problems with running the game, so should I assume that those meeting minimum specs aren't having trouble running the game on low settings, and that those meeting recommended specs are able to run the game on high settings?

My computer exceeds the minimum specs (first-generation Core i7-860, GTX 570, 8GB RAM, rotating hard disks) and the game plays great on medium+ settings. I'm able to keep most of the neat things on, but I did reduce the shadows some.

I'm using the same computer I used for Civ V, and although turn times are slower the game generally runs better otherwise - no extended intro hangup, for a start.

I'm so glad that they finally fixed that problem. For those of us still using old platter disks, Civ V was painfully slow upon meeting a new leader. Civ VI doesn't have that problem at all!

I was thinking more of the actual game loading time, but yes the other is less of an issue as well. Sadly they appear to have achieved it by cutting production values - I much prefer the Civ V leaderheads and the use of voiceovers.

My Civ VI leaders are still 3D, animated, and voiced. Yours aren't?

Well they are voiced, but only limited. (I think introductions, war declerations, defeat and agenda fulfillment are voiced, rest, are simply animated)

Animation is more limited and the backgrounds are fully static (nothing like, for instance, the sparks with Askia in Civ V, at least that I've seen so far). There's only a single line of dialogue per leader that I've seen, on meeting them - I haven't come across war declarations or defeat, so haven't run across any voiceovers for those).

I am much below the minimum and the game plays super smooth.
Much much better than civ5 release anyway.

There are other spoken lines. Certainly, they speak when you defeat them. They also sometimes say something brief when you interact with them otherwise, such as when they're denouncing you. They probably don't have spoken lines for all of the agenda-related stuff because the second agenda is random and new ones might be added later, which would result in far too much dialogue to record.

On the plus side, we don't have to hear the same lines every time we open the diplomacy screen.

My computer meets the minimum specifications:
AMD Phenom II X6 1045T processor 2.70 GHz
8 gigs of RAM
ATI Radeon HD 5570

I think Civ 6 runs more quickly than Civ 5. However, I am running on the lowest settings, and didn't even have animated leaders until I read this thread.

Phenom II x6 1055T, 8GB, HD 5870, Win7x64

Frame rate wise the game runs fine, but turn times get pretty bad on large maps. (late game turns of 30+ seconds are the norm; even early game turn times are noticeable)

Then you go back to Civ4, and are greeted with turn times of just a few seconds (early game turns are <1s), yet you have bigger maps, more units, and more challenging AI.
I don't think it's an exaggeration to say Civ6 turn times are ~10 times longer than Civ4's.
WTH is Civ6 doing with all those cycles! Sophisticated but ineffective, or just hideously inefficient?

Thankfully I can play windowed mode, and do something else while I wait..... but really that's not how it should be.

Two things!

1. Civ IV was released approximately forever ago in terms of computing power available to the average player. Of course, it's going to run very well on newer hardware.

2. Due to said increases in computational power, Civ VI is a much more complicated game than was Civ IV. It's really not even close. Many of those extra cycles are spent on AI and graphics.

The AI on IV might have been "more challenging", but it had a much simpler task than it does now. And, really, it was still pretty much horrible.
