you need to factor in the platform into cost, an X58 is at least $200+ but the MSI GD70 comes in at $170, this comes with:
8 SATA
supports up to DDR3 2133 when overclocked (Cost=~your soul)
eSATA
excessive RAID options
four PCI-Express slots

This MoBo will last you a while, and a good cooling device will last you a while
so you really pay low prices

While I agree that that mobo is good, if you are indeed willing to spend the dough for a good platform that will last a while, why not pay 250 or so for a good category mobo in the x58 range? In the end to each his own of course, but I would not cut corners like that for a class system.

By the way, this thread has me convinced that indeed the better AMD processors are still pretty much class. I had thought that they were kinda pwned left right and in the centre by now.

What I meant was good so you could continue to swap in new Chips
and that is a high end AM3 board

I haz Intel I7 920 @ 4 Ghz, Asus Rampage III Extreme, 12 Gb ram, with crossfire 5770s.

What will I need to upgrade to run Civ 5? I think I will need a Hex core I7, 24 Gb ram, and two 5970s for quadfire ..... to play at minimum settings at slideshow speed.

Be sure to run the computer submerged in an oil bath for cooling, too; you should be okay unless you have to access civopedia during the game.

Double that and you should be okay

nope, you needed Fluorinert in a tub (computer submerged) with a rig to another tub with dual 300mm fans over it

Whhhhaaaaaaatttttt????

My air cooling is not good enough???

Spoiler :

But yea, Civ 5 will be so leet that it will make the whole thing will set on fire.

it will only work if that heat sink is made out of pure silver

As long as you do not put it in a box.

Seriously, I think that I'm OK; (Screen Resolution 1920x1200 pixels)

Processor: Intel i5 (660) 3.33 GHz 4Mo Socket 1156
RAM Memory: Kingston 4GB DDR3 1333 MHz,
Video Card: ASUS ENGT240 1GB DDR3
Sound card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro Series

I still use XP and I won't upgrade to Vista or Windows 7 at ANY COST.
Not my intention tu use half of my computer to spy on me...
I' m not a :sheep:

So, if there' s a problem with Direct X, well, farewell CIV5.

That will definitely play the game without a hitch. Worst case is you may lose a little eye-candy.

As for all this x system is better than y system. I have an i7 system with a 5870 all watercooled and overclocked. I also have an AM3 dual core system with a 5770 all air cooled and stock speeds.

I can play the same game on both rigs and even though my i7 get twice the FPS, both games play exactly the same in most cases. most have the same stuttering in the same conditions, just the i7 has more FSP.

so if you need to build a new rig, just take your budget and get what you need. I'd prioritize my video card first and get the best possible (the more shaders the better), then the CPU (the more cores the better), and don't worry so much on the motherboard unless you plan to overclock. each motherboards chipset models are the same, just the more expensive ones have better overclocking features and more add-on peripherals that usually aren't needed. if you can afford it, an SSH drive is much faster than an HDD and is very much worth the extra money(once you go SSD you won't be able to back to HDD ever!).

If you don't want THEM to spy on you, you need to add one last piece of hardware to your configuration...

Vista practically is malware, damn you UAC! (getting told you have privilege to do that when you are the sole account)

OK. I have a siamese cat, and the piece of hardware needed too.

Many thanks for the tip!

Windows 7 is great, its definately no where near as bad as Vista was.

not sure where Vista came from, but Windows 7 is Windows XP plus as much OS X as they could steal in reasonable time
