Update from the west :)

Was planing on moving on that forested hill SW SW next turn.
PS: I had seen the egyptian scout saturday morning but hadn't time to report before leaving :salute:

Given that egypt is soooo close shouldn't he go for gold to get a holkan asap?

I wouldn't have thought it was that urgent. They have to:
* Research AH, which takes almost as long as bronze (and they would probably do bronze first as well anyway)
* Build a pasture (unless they got 'lucky' and settled on horses).
* That most likely means building a worker too.
* Build a chariot.
* Get the chariot to the city.

That's compared to
* Research bronze.
* Build a holkan.

It could mean a holkan before a worker though possibly.

we cannot afford both maya and natives to save gold. Natives have already done it for 1 turn.

Idially yes we would want a holcan upgrade...so not sure really..either natives drop the uprgrade and maya do it...or continue with natives upgrade...lets see what the scouts will find

I would switch Maya to gold and upgrade Holkan unless Natives see enemy scouts soonish when we could switch Natives back to gold. Resourceless Holkan is best at choking and worse than spearman in handling War Chariots so we should try to deny horses from Egypt.

Irgy, it is not to deal with the war chariots it is to choke egypt... I think switching to maya is best, natives haven't met anyone yet.

Maya would need 6 turns gold (the sixth about 50%). the warrior is out in 3 + 2 to move to edge of border..that means he will wait there for 1 turn.

Natives are exactly in time now...so if native scout does not meet anyone then Maya could switch...if it meets though I would suggest Natives to stick with the gold.

Here is the build order I am thinking at:

t0: nada
t1: settled, start on worker, working marble.
t3: borders pop, switch marble to stone.
t8: worker completes. Start a warrior, working the floop plain. Worker 1 (w1) moves on forest 1 E of Tombouctou
t9: w1 starts chopping.
t11: w1 finishes chopping. We switch from the warrior to a Skirmisher (SK) for one turn.
t12: Resume the warrior, switching from the floodplain to the unimproved riverside pig. This allows to complete the warrior next turn AND grow size 2 in the same time. w1 moves on the riverside pig.
t13: City size 2 (is working fp and unimproved riverside pig). Warrior completes, resume SK. w1 starts on a pasture.
t14: SK completes, start on another worker.
t15: w1 finishes the riverside pasture.
t16: w1 moves on a forest.
t17: worker can be whipped -> switch in slavery
t18: one pop whip of worker
t19: we start on a SK. w1 finishes its chop, w2 goes into the other pig resource.
t20: SK finishes, start on another one. w1 move on another forest, w2 pastures
t21: City size2 (improved pig, fp). SK finishes, start on another one.
t22: w2 finishes the second pasture.
t23: w2 moves on the riverside plain hill. w1 finishes its chop
t24: City size 3 (2* improve pig, fp). SK completes, start on settler. w1 moves on forest
t26: w2 finishes its mine.
t27: w1 finishes its chop
t28: settler completed

Here is the final screeny... Nevermind the rivers in my test map, I never figured out how to use this function of the worldbuilder :D

this doesn't take into account possibilities of improving stone or marble instead of the mine, and we could also put a rax somewhere before the settler (though I like the idea of having some SKs out asap). Also one worker is chopping pretty much non stop, perhaps we can think at other plans... but with 5 forests next to my capital, I think it's wise...

Cheers,
Raskolnikov

Up to the chopping a skirmisher sounds good Ras...after that, in this game it is impossible to plan too far ahead, it will depend on where enemy is, will you need more skirmishers to chock or defend etc.

You mean the first one after warrior (t14), or the second one after second worker (t20)? I agree we need flexibility here, but I think this city site needs two workers pretty early (if we want both chops and good tiles, together with stone/marble connection).

Anyway, if anyone has comments, don't hesitate, we have some 5 turns till the first worker is done

Cheers,
Ras

What is the plan concerning Stonehenge? If we want it shouldn't it be started during this time frame and it seem to me Ras has best city for this purpose. Is it possible to research masonry and hook the stone before starting it?

I guess I could improve the stone rather than the mine if we go with eary masonry, so Indiansmoke can start SH (capitals - stone are connected next turn once my border pops). I think I am better doing SKs for chocking than wonders... unless the team decides against it! :)

Took turn, borders expand..moves scout. Still no enemies..Still plan to go cash to upgrade. Don't want a warrior sitting on the forest hills next to me.

...you can build a DS to kill warriors choking you easily, but getting a Holkan to choke with would need to be done asap. Also, you are 2v2 with Natives, more space, so choking is harder to do.

Upgrading the Holkan is better, it'll pay off alot sooner by damaging eygpts growth, and in the north is where it's going to get nasty. Damage eygpts growth and long term attacking is going to be easier for you.

The best for the team is clearly to go for a choke with holkan. Saving further gold to upgrade a dogsoldier seems a waste...

I agree. Maya should go 100% cash for the Holkan upgrade to choke Egypt asap. Natives should switch back to 100% science.

Moved my scout further east - nothing exciting to report. Border popped and am now working the 3f river corn for pop growth in 3 turns.

Note that Mali's scout has found Babylon's borders. Nice. Right next to our Immortals and Skirmishers. :)

I agree that we are probably better using Mali's skirmishers for choking and / or defending Persia's horses and resources. Persia could conceivably chop out SH using those 3 forests which need clearing anyway. Persia will be the last to get her UU anyway. (AH coming after both BW and Archery). Plus with Mali and Maya so close, she has some protection against choking while going for SH.

Zulu, Natives, Maya and Mali will presumably all want to be chopping and whipping out their pre-AH UUs during that time.

If we want to go for SH (and I think we should) then Persia seems like she is probably our best bet..

My scout hasn't found the Egyptian city yet. Let me know if I need to switch to cash, as I am on board with the Holkan strategy.

Do you all think I should head south to find the city? I'll try to trace their scout's moves back to its possible origins.

Seems like the best strategy to me.

Yep, I would. You're currently 2NE of where the Egyptian Scout was first spotted, and it seems unlikely he came from that direction given the tile he ended up on, and the fact that all the tiles to your east are 2-move tiles.

So I'd go S then SE on the next move and keep heading in that approximate direction.

Also, don't forget to zoom out for the globe view (F11) and select the culture option, to check for enemy borders that aren't always obvious in the regular map view. (As happened with Babylon for example - the border wasn't that obvious from Ras' original screenshot).
