Talk to me, I need to declare war!

I've just lost a Noble game to the AI (Space Race victory). I'm cursing myself roundly for idiocy because the AI had five turns left on his last SS part before I realised the reason my spies couldn't sabotage his SS part production wasn't that Firaxis made it impossible to sabotage SS production but that I actually had to pay to sabotage things. That's irritating, and embarrassing, but entirely my fault.

The plan I had before realising that was to get Montezuma to attack Washington (who was building the SS). He wouldn't do it without me being at war as well, so eventually I got desperate and went to declare war... only to find that Washington wouldn't talk to me. He didn't hate me or anything, he just wouldn't talk to me. And consequently, I couldn't declare war - I was on a different continent with a miserly navy in the wrong part of the map, and an out-of-date, too-small army against Washington's Jet Fighters and Mech. Inf. Anyway, had I had time I could have moved something over there to sneak attack him, but does anyone else find it more than slightly odd that the AI sticking its fingers in its ears singing "La la la I'm not listening la la la!" at the top of its voice somehow prevents you being able to declare war?

I did get one shot at sabotaging that last SS part, but my spy got caught and I didn't have enough time to accumulate enough money to try again. Pity - my own SS was only 20 or so turns from completion (had to get the last couple of techs), and I was about five turns from finishing Manhatten Project, which would likely have evened the odds for my troops trying to get in to stop production. ;)

To declare war against anyone at anytime without talkng to them, do ALT + click on the leader's name on the scoreboard.

In the right bottom of the main window, there you have (or can) dispay all the nations you have met.

ALT-klick on a Civ and see what happens.... instant war. :D

good to know about ALT-click. I had the same problem last night but I was lucky and had units right by his boundries so I was able to move them into his territory to declare war and then launch my nukes. :p

:wallbash:

Dammit... see, this is what happens when I decide that the manual's too big to do more than skim given that I've played all three previous Civs...

Actually the screen tip on the right bottom says alt click to declare war, ctrl click to trade. That is where I learned this bit of information from.

I hope there's a prompt about the whole declare war thing... hitting Alt instead of Control would be way too easy !

Actually... It is not nessesary to Cntr-click.
You can instead dubble klick for trade and ALT-click for War.
So just dubble klick to go to trade.
And no there is no question -Are uou sure- Instant war. (just ad water ;) )
