Team Game by Newbie for Newbies - Mansa Musa

well oyzar ... i'm winning around 75% of my prince games and i've never warriorrushed anything ... theres usually more than enough time to grab Bronzeworking (as 3'th tech latest), settle a copper city and then rush with axes catching some with no archers, specially if its civs with regilius and/or peacefull nutheads in front, india, spain and even if your lucky Korea as prime examples, hell ... i've managed to wipe 3 enemies off the map with 5 axes, losing one on the first enemy which was the only one with archers sitting on 7 cities in 1500bc

Are you trying to be funny? I consistently beat immortal... I am just explaining things out from the way i play prince/noble which is to warrior rush and then rex as that leaves the AI so far behind they have no chance to recover... Sure if you can axe rush before the AI get archers that obviously also works well, but it isn't going to work every time as that require you to have copper nearby. It is also terribly likely that most AI's will have archery by the time you get that far...

problem with Warrior rush is that it only work on Prince and below ... and for learning to get better i wouldn't say that thats one of the ways :P

you make it sound like a warrior rush is needed

warrior rush is very strong if there is an enemy nearby, on noble and prince, and even better below.
Still, this being a financial leader on cottage paradise, I think settling in place is best.
I can warrior rush without settling on the stone, it works most of the time.

First question:

How does Pascal only takes two turns to make his warrior? He now has 3 warriors on turn 12?

I went for fishing and then Pottery. What should I do next? Agriculture?

Please remember to keep explaining the choices so we the newbies can understand.

This is the way the known world looks:

And here is a save game:
Save Game Turn 12

PACAL, being an AI, gets some hammers at the very start of the game automatically added to whatever he wants to build.

Also, his capital is settled on a hill, so he gets extra hammers. If he weren't an AI, I'd guess he micro-managed his citizen to work the forest hill for a little extra boost, but I don't know if the AI is that smart on Noble.

I thought all tiles end up giving you 2f/1h/1c when you settle on them unless they have a resource on them. I could be wrong though, I play on Noble too :)

Plain Hill gives another hammer :)

plains stone hill gives 3 hammers, which is why i suggested settling on it...

well not settling a stone hill with food is a big mistake. Stone hill city gets 3 hammers and 2 food. Settling on grassland gives you 1 hammer 2 food. The difference is big. I usually play on quick speed so i give you the numbers for that speed. In place where you have settled making worker first takes 10 turns. On stone hill making worker first takes 7 turns. I think on normal speed difference is even bigger than 3 turns. That is a big advantage that you have lost. Not even mentioning that you can make everything faster since you get 2 extra hammers per turn. You could also get stonehenge pretty easily with that start, which gives you +1 culture in every city so You don't have to make monument in every city.

I also think that when you play mali rushing with archers is much better than rushing with warriors.

So to make things clear - The settler should have 1 south to get the extra hammers? And also it is better in terms of protection.

So I could do it all over again, but learning from mistakes is also important.

:D

Agree?

Actually I was wondering about something else. The turns I would loose moving the settler would not hurt me more in the end?

I say go for stone hill. 3 extra hammers per turn don't hurt

Why don't you count it by yourself. For example moving to stone hill cost you 2 turns. Making worker first is 10 turns. turn 12 you have worker ready. Planting as you and making worker first is 15 turns. Compare those numbers by yourself

You are right. Simple math.

So the proposal might be to restart moving the town to the stoney hill. And also leaving the other print screens so people can see what I have been doing wrong.

You guys agree?

Playing team with AI, you have to tell him to do stuff. If you want to research something, tell him to. Click on his name, discuess, like you to research X.

I do this somewhat often, and I realize that the AI normally lets you tech majority while he expands. You will notice this later when he has like 100 gold for trade per turn.

I didnt teched agri before because fishing was usefull for the AI and we are a team.

But I might once a restart the game in the new position.

What do you guys think about tech order?

I have also learned you should always go for the huts with preferably scouts because you can get a tech for free while if you use the cross or a warrior you want. Is this right?

So on turn 3 Timbukto was built over the stone tile and next to water.

I decided to start with fishing to help Pacal and then Pottery so I can start cottaging with my worker. I asked Pacal to research the same as me.

On turn 6 we had fishing so next was Pottery. And that would match my worker.

The borders expanded on turn 7.

Budism was founded by unknown on turn 10.

So now I decided to start with a Warrior to let the city grow a bit, but I feel unsure what to do next.

My warrior fund a hut but it was hostile?!?! In Noble??? I think it is the first time ever.

and this is the look of the world now.

So what to tech now? Maybe hunting to work on my skirmishers?

What about long term? This is my major problem, never very good in planning.

if enemy is close then you should go for archery and send 3 skirms into his land. If not then maybe you should research masonry so you can get stonehenge relatively easy. Other techs which will be usefull is bronze working animal husbandry too. Mine hills work cows and get stonehenge. Then chop next worker and start making settler. Expand to 5 cities and cottage every river tile. You can also try getting pyramids. You have many choices ;)
