Team Python- Monarch Training!

I dunno that researching Horseback Riding was a good choice. We could get it from the Arabians pretty easily, and we still don't have a source of horses. Literature would've been my pick; even if we're not gonna get the GL, regular old Libraries are good.

As for the dotmap... well, I put mine up, but didn't hear much about whether my choices were good ones, so I dunno.

4 - (Part 2) Still Blocking the Russian Settler and Spear
Since I am going by the current dot map, I am leaving the settler Ulaa untill an escourt is provided for it.

5 - We have discovered HBR. Researching Literacy. Still Blocking the Ruskies

6 - Swaped 2 Warriors and replaced them with Swords in the Maginato line. Noticed that our capital has a 3:4 Ratio of Happyness to Unhappy. I raised the Lux to prevent any further unhappyness. I rased it to 20% though I had to lower Sci at 40%

7 - Gah, Stupid me, I lat a scout get ambushed by a Barb :cringe:. Choybalsan has been founded by the horses.

8 - A Rusky Warrior has crossed my path to block the ruskies. I am making an attempt to make sure they dont pass.

9 - The Russians demand that we give them Contact with the arabs. I Refused to give them the Contact, but the Russians have declared war on us :cringe:. Gah, I am a Newbie when it comes to demands. I dont know when to accept or refuse a demand.

10 - I tried to intercept that Russian Settler, but that Stupid spear knocked out my Warrior there. I had no choice but to change the queues of Mandalgovi and Choyblasan to build warriors. I tried to MM them to generate Warriors in a timely fassion.

Somethings I want to add to my learning list.

  • Micromanagement (When and How frequent)
    Trades (General and Intermediate)
Trades (How to deal with Demands)

I wish to learn on what to do if they demand something from me so that I dont repeat the same mistake in the future

The Save

Looks like the game just got a lot more interesting :D

I think we should basically try and keep the Russians from settling in our area, but outside of that, I don't think we're ready for an offensive war against them. It will take 10+ turns to get troops down there, so we're probably better off just killing their settlers, and then asking for peace as soon as we can.

Good job on getting MapMaking. Did you start to build galleys? We need to find the rest of the world as soon as we can. We might want to take a look at building the Great Lighthouse as well.

PreTurn- Ok, great move on lowering science, I tend to do this in the late ages but Ancient Ages are very good :goodjob:.

1. Ok, good thing u didn't trade that! Giving an open door for them is not a good idea, we are at a total advantage haveing this brockerage like this, at least until Map Making. Changing to Horseback Riding is especially not bad giving us the oppertunity to add Horseys to our military as well as Swordsmen which is unbelievably helpful.

Uh Oh, something came up and I need to go. I am actually up next so no one would be waiting and I have until tommorrow until my 48 hours is up so I will post the qritue with my turns, sorry, very sorry!

I was reading through the thread to see how the monarch game was coming along. It sounds like you are doing well. A few random comments:

CivGeneral, I saw a post by Arathorn that the save between 1.21 and 1.27 is compatable. If the rest of the team agrees, you might be able to play at 1.27 even if others cannot patch. Here is the post:

Arathorn checks 1.21 vs 1.27 compatablity

Chieftess,
That is a very useful list. I am thinking of printing it out and taping it to my computer. I always forget something. A check list might be just the thing.

On the buying of foreign workers, I have seen elsewhere rules like "No workers until 2000 BC". Also I feel if/when you ever work your way up to emporer level, then the exploit goes away. It seems quite difficul to buy enough workers to really hurt the computer (he starts with an extra anyway). Perhaps a rule that you can only buy one before 2000BC if you are worried about it. This is for PTW where they raised the value of a worker. This is just an FYI, there is certainly nothing wrong with saying no purchases until the middle ages. I guess what I am trying to say is that at emporer level and higher buying workers becomes a viable strategy that you do to benifit yourself rather than trying to hurt the AI. IMHO of course :)

aPT- Ok, nothin bad here. Very good move on moveing the slider to 50%. Believe it or not, there is no MMing pontentials here. Though there was a trading move here that would save what you would've done next turn, the Arabs were willing to trade Horseback Riding for our Writing and 25g. I would've taken this, you need to check every turn for trades even if you think the player before you did already, check anyways.

a1. The whole dilemma wouldn't have came up if you traded for HBR before. Uuuuuummm, you didn't type that Karakorum finished settler and started what?? This is what I meant as more details in your turn report. If I didn't have the save open when I was checking your turns then I would've never knew that the settler would've finished. You didn't type that you MMed Karakorum so it finishesthe settler in four turns from now. I need to know these things. Good moves on defense and offense here with the barbs abd russia, and keep that upgrading gowing! Though my science would have went straight to Mathematics so when we meet some more people we will have a great trading chip and Currency in the way. Thinking for future trades is the way to go, spend high, get high, just like business, only if you know how to run it ;). Luxury was able to be lowered to 0% so I guess you didn't check that or just didn't tell me :). I also upgraded 2 warriors, I would like to know how much u did. ;) Killed a barb encampment with a warrior, and moved a settler. All those things I mentioned is what you should have mentioned if you done them, if not, then that is what you should have done and you didn't.

a2. Blocking the Russian Settler is wonderful and going great! For me, Kazan finished Sword, but u didn't say that, I started a spearmen after that. Daland started Harbor which is a good move, we need one, though I would've started a Galley straight up from somewhere to get some exploring before the Russians and Arabs research Map Making. Great victory in the barb camp! :) Luxury at 10% would've still been in effect.

a3. A settler finished, which you didn't specify. Flood plains finished in Hovd. No luxury still in effect...

a4. I killed a barb. Moved some troops and Raised luxury becuase Capitol was at size 6.

a5. Even though I dont think HBR was good, Literacy wasn't a bit better...

a6. Nothin wrong here...

a7. Did our settler finish???? 4 Turns??? Did you accept of refuse, I am confused, aaarrggh.

Overall: I can expect more from your CivGeneral. I was disapointed that every turn I had to say something nagative about the same reason. I am not talking about the trade, or your little tweaks, I am talking about NOT ENOUGH INFO. I wont be able to grade you on your turns if you dont put effort into writing these turns. I should be able to read right though your turns withought haveing to go back to the game and check what else happend. Do not get discouraged, but I realy want you to listen to what I am saying, take a look on how I write my next turns, that I will say every single little detail that happend just so I can help you guys understand what happening and not try to guess what actually happend. I hope I wasn't too harsh but it was needed. About you learning list, ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM :). I will take extra note to watch so you can see how to do these affectively.
I will be playing my turns now like in 5min.

The Khanate of Mongolia: Amirsan's Turns

730BC PreTurn- Lowered luxury to 10%. I realy wont stand playing turns with a research on an unusful technology. Changed to Mathematics loosing no turns but one. Raised science to 50% changing the due time from 12 to 9 and getting 9gpt. I dont know why we are not building Settlers from Karakorum, am I missing something?? WE ARE AT WAR WITH RUSSIA! AND CG DIDN'T TELL! WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FIGHTING THE ARABS!!!!!!! I moved some warriors up north to find a barb camp. I MM Karakorum by moving a worker from the irrigated river plain and moveing it to flood plain for more food and still producing 11spt. Started turns...

1. Kazan: Spear> Spear (no sense in starting Granary soo late when it was supposed to be finished by now). Darhan: Warrior> Worker. Moved swords out of Kazan and toward Arabia. War will start in my turns... Attacked barb camp in north and won. Russia still wont talk. Moved settler. Upgraded about 2 warriors. We have 13 Swords ready to attack soon. (BTW, CG, this is how you should be reporting...)

2. Barely lost a warrior to a barb horse. Hovd finished Sword and started Granary. Attack movement will begin in 5 truns when all troops are stationed. Russia still wont talk.

3. Killed a barb horse. Russia settled thier city. Warrior is in attack position. Karakrum: Sword> Sword. Mand.: Warror> Worker. Attacked Russian city and lost. Moved troops around and upgraded warrior. Moved worker from Forest in Kazan to hill producing an extra gold piece. 15 Swords ready to attack in about 3 turns. Set up embassy with Arabia for 31 gold. They have 1 warrior and spear in capitol as well as 2 settlers. They have 80% in science and 20% in tax. Building a Spear in 2 turns. They also have thier iron hooked up. Investigated our first target, Medina for 16 gold. Its heavy with 2 spears, 1 warrior and a settler. This will need a little more troops this way. At this level, espionage is VERY important for attacks. If you have read Sun Tzu's Art of War, then you should know, if not, then buy it and read it for homework. Russia wont talk and no deals with Arabia. Lower luxury to 10%. BTW, CG, MMing has to do with moveing the luxury slide. It has to do with citizens and everything that goes with it.

4. Barb horse killed a Sword. Ulaan. culturally increased. Built Eardent. Rushed spear down south for Russian protection. Raised luxury. Karakorum grew.

5. Barbs move, one attack losing down south. Kazan finished Spear and started another. Mand. Finished spear, started worker. French finished the Pyramids. Ulaan finished Sword and started Spear. Many troops at Maginot. That all for tonight, you know I have a hectic schdule, finishing tommorrow.

Excactly, just learn from your mistakes to become a better player. If you quit then you wont learn, just try harder next time. ;)

BTW, Armisan -

Origanally posted by CivGeneral:

I still dont get how to write a Turn Report. Its just that it is way to much detail for me to write down.

Just write EVERY SINGLE key you press, or button, or every time you click you mouse and tell us why you did that. Thats all.

Sounds simple and yet, Im still not used to typing in every detail

At this point, I would run away and never return since I have made the sponser mad at me for my :smoke:y moves :scared:. I did mentioned that they declared war.

I don't think recording every single keystroke is necessary, or even helpful. Just give a basic description of what each unit is doing - heading for X location, irrigating plains near city Y, escorting settler to city dot Z - and make a note when that unit completes that task or encounters something that may interfere with its orders.

Definitely include when a city completes its production, and what item you choose to have it build next; listing reasons for your choice is optional. Also include slider changes and micromanaging, if any.

In between turns, note when a new unit appears and its location, interesting enemy movement, and so forth.

I dont know why, But I am getting the feeling that I will never make it in Civ3. I would progressly get worse and end up back in Chieften :(.

One side of me wants me to stay, But my other side is telling me to drop this SG because of my Lack of Detail in my reports and my Errorness :smoke:y moves :(. I am getting into that "High School Drop out" Blues with Civ3 and this SG :(.

I have done this before in another TDG in the past (I think it was a TDG), Soon I began to regret my desision and rejoined just as the game is being finished. I dont want to repeat the same mistake I did in the past. I would rather stick around and learn more rather than drop out and regret my desision. Im sorry for turning this post into a "Trip to the Head Doctor" post Put I had to let out my feelings from my past experiance of the SGs.

@amirsan - Edit: Since your PM box is full, Ill post the links here.
Here are some samples of my older turn reports. Hopefully there would be some that would sut your aproval, If not, then I know I have something to work on.

(PAD1)CG TR Sample 1

(PAD1) CG TR Sample 2

(Wander 001) CG TR Sample 3

(Sirp's TDG Monarchs) CG TR Sample 4

Hopefully these samples would also help me get back on the right track in your TDG.

Thanks,
CivGeneral

CG, don't give up just becuase of that. You DID mention Russia declared war, and someone else saw it too. Amirsan probably missed that line.

Uh... so you want to skip your turns completely, amirsan? You didn't post a save from what you've already done...
