Tech Tree Discussion

Games does not just mean the type of game played between two people moving rocks around. Racing is a game and sport, human, animal or combination. It is also linked to gambling.

The modern Olympics is a poor version of the classic era Celtic Lugnassad(sp?) which did not only have atheletic activities but also poetry and strategic game components.

Can you explain a little more? Your wording is really confusing me. I can see Games pointing towards Athletics (maybe as an OR prerequisite with Military Training, and then have it be required for Combat Sports).

How far back are you talking about?

Early-middle Ancient Era (if you want to look at my current tech trees, it would fall at Ancient-4). My original prerequisites were Divination (casting lots) OR Trade (concept of value, more complex than Barter). That would put it on the same difficulty level as Mining or The Wheel. Divination is only 2 techs removed from Sedentary Lifestyle: SL - Sacrifice Cult - Divination, so Games would be 3 techs.

The first Sport building is the Fighting Pit, which is available at Slavery, so this unnamed sport building would fall between the Pit and the Arena.

Where would a Gladiator's Arena fit in?

There is already an Arena (at Combat Sports, so that's specifically for Gladiators), and then there is the Colosseum as well. The name for this building needs to fall somewhere around Ancient Egypt or Minoan cultures. We are not currently using the Stadion name, but I don't know if that falls too close to Athletics.

As a footnote, I feel that Arenas and Colosseums are basically the same building and that it is not currently justified to have both. The penalties and benefits of the both should be on one building, the arena, imo. We should have THE Colosseum as a World Wonder.

I like this idea. What should this wonder give?

Well, a very healthy dose of + experience to Mounted and Melee and trained animals (non-canine) if we adopt what I mentioned in the other thread about animal unitcombat defs. Additionally, +1 Happiness for all cities on the continent (or connected by trade route if possible.) Um... -25% War Unhappiness due to the way it influences the entire culture to be a bit more bloodthirsty and war-worshipping. Maybe even a bit of gold income as it generates a healthy revenue for the government.

Crap. Hmm I already changed it. Hmm. Guess I will have to undo my work.

EDIT: Changed it back to the way it was. Oops!

So are we just going to drop the Colosseum, then? You may want to check and see what else ties into the Colosseum. Flavian Amphitheatre grants free Colosseums, and the National Sports League quest ties into how many Colosseums you have built.

But the Colosseum is already in the game under it's proper name, The Flavian Amphitheatre.

um... I hadn't realized that . But if the Flavian Ampitheatre IS THE Colosseum, than I would suggest removing the Colosseum building, adjusting the Flavian to give what was mentioned earlier, and change the aforementioned quest to work with Minor League Stadiums, which would make a lot more sense right now anyhow.

Well the Flavian Amphitheatre gives a free Colosseum to every city. So I am thinking we need to keep them.

Gladiator School is at Combat Sports, just like Arena. Isn't that where it should be?

I guess I already moved it. Before it was at Armor Crafting tech.

New Transhuman Era techs added..can you do a redundancy and error check please Vokarya?
