*phew*

Included are some new non religion specific techs (Animism, Karma, Reincarnation and Resurrection).

Tell me what you guys think? I think this works nicely. Especially with the supplementing techs.

EDIT: Note that all religion techs should have the same buttons as their religious icons, but the the other techs will need a new buttons (except for Animism which can use the Shamanism tech button).

Also I can chnage the name of the "Shaman's Hut" to "Sage's Hut" to unlink it to Shamanism.

sounds awesome hydro :goodjob:

but would'nt it be easier to incorprate the total war's religions system

here's a description of it:
edit: i took the wrong idea by mistake :( here's the real one: i took this one from page 19 of the religions disscution

"you know, the total war mod acually handled religion in an instersing way you might check it out for ideas....

basically, it in away that you research spiritual components instead of a tech that founds the religions, and the more you get, the more bonuses you have ( like money and production).
when you have a certain amount of spiritual components you found a religion using a certain amount of "faith points" which you can use to further enhance your religion.

pretty awesome if you ask me"

edit: just a note, the civ 5 gods and kings expansion uses a similar system the copycats!! :)

I want to add future religions
What does each religion need?

I've been asking us to dead-end all religious techs for a while. So I'm all for it.

Just remember to make sure to change the firstfreeprophet tags accordingly (at least for now). I've begun to realize how I could've done this without that tag entirely but it was a useful patch for my ignorance at the time.

1st off Thanks Hydro for listening to me.

I will need to see how these are placed on the tech tree.

Why?
Because the 1st 2 have the same co-ords (x,y).

Secondly Many share the same 1st co-ord (X). Are these clusters sufficiently separated in the Pathing to keep the AI/player Spiritual leader types and AI/Player tech leaders from grabbing them anyway? And of course being Dead End greatly helps in this.

Don't get me wrong I want this! And I'm just anxious to see how it lays out. If I could've done some of the xml and such layouts in my example I would've to help. But once I get past Excel I'm lost.

Will these be added before the Freeze? So I can Test!?

JosEPh :)

Edit: Started plotting these out on the xls techtree file I have and I'm eXcited! I did place Shamanism at X14 Y17 as I didn't think you wanted Animism and Shamanism on the same Co-ords.

I wanna Play with them Asap!:banana::trophy:

Did you notice that Islam was on the list twice, and no Scientology? Where should that be?

Where was Scientology to begin with? I've not finished the plotting on my copy and had not seen the duplication yet.

JosEPh

It's not on the list at all - right now, Scientology is keyed to Globalization tech (X75, Y7). There are several open spaces in column X76 where it could fit. I don't know what other prerequisites would work for it.

I don't think it would need any other prereq besides Globalization. And the X76 column would be a logical resting place for Scientology.

I was kind of surprised when Hydro had several prereqs for some of the Religions besides the original that gave the Religion.

Hope Hydro sees this.

Ok I had to fix some locations but here is is the online tech tree with the added techs. The new religious techs are in magenta so they can be easily found.

@MrAzure

Please add these techs (and chnage the Shamanism tech) to these specifications. The list should be correct now.

Many thanks in advance! :goodjob:

Ok some of these new techs are ending up as "dead end" ones and nothing after them is a requirement for them?? Just wondering is all??

Also when checking techs out, make sure you click on the VERY last tech listed, and if it doesn't get there in 5 or so seconds, something is wrong, and all techs except the punk techs should be list, from what i am gathering, correct?

SO,
These are new techs for founding religions and they are Dead End. Also some of the Religions are moved to different locations on the tech tree. This is all done to slow down the Religion Grab that a Tech leading Player or AI can do. So you don't come across AI in your games that have founded 10 religions or more like you've posted screenshots of in the past.

It's one of the things I've harped on for sometime and finally got the xls copy of the tech tree to show what I thought should be done. Hydro took it from there. And I can't wait to play with this! :woohoo:

Remember that MrAzure has a ton of techs not even on the tree yet that the current future techs will lead to. I am not worrying about any dead end techs beyond the modern era because by the end MrAzure should have no dead end techs for them. In short they are only dead end right now because he has not added the techs they lead to yet.

That'll work for me guys, i was just curious is all, thx for the explaination;)

@SO

MrAzure is also working to redo the earlier TH techs to be better connected and more general, so the whole TH era is a WIP for the moment. I don't think it will affect too many people, as generally most of us don't get that far all that often.

With the discussion on new religion technologies, I noticed there was one concept that we have not yet included, and that is the technology of Scriptures. It was in World of Legends, and I think it is worth including. This is the Scriptures technology as originally included in World of Legends.

World of Legends said:
Scriptures (Classical Era)
Cost: 250
Req Techs: Monotheism AND Writing
Leads to: Theology (Theology requires Literature AND Scriptures)
Allows: Organized Religion Civic, Nalanda University (new World Wonder, requires Mathematics and Scriptures, +10% science in all cities)

I would change this up just a little by moving it back into the late Ancient Era, as the early Vedas and Torah date to the Late Bronze Age. Also, move the requirements around to blend it better into our tech tree.

New Techs
Scriptures (Ancient Era)
Cost: 110
Location: X25 Y19
Req Techs: Priesthood AND Writing AND (Dualism OR Monotheism OR Polytheism)
Allows: State Church civic
Leads to: Calligraphy, Hinduism, Judaism, Literature, Meditation

Altered Techs

Calligraphy
Req Techs: Aristocracy AND (Calendar OR Code of Laws OR Literature OR Scriptures)
(I don't think Calligraphy needs to have that many AND prerequisites. I think requiring Aristocracy plus one other technology is enough. We can discuss having two or three AND prerequisites, but I think four or five is too many.)

Hinduism
Req Techs: Folk Dance AND Karma AND Scriptures

Judaism
Req Techs: Monotheism AND Resurrection AND Scriptures

Literature
Req Techs: Alphabet AND (Polytheism OR Scriptures)

Meditation
Req Techs: Monotheism AND Scriptures

Scriptures could be added to or replace tech requirements in some of the other religions that have significant religious texts. Keep in mind that the Scriptures - Meditation - Theology chain will make Scriptures redundant for many later religions.

Buildings attached to Scriptures could include a first version of the Scriptorium, and then improve the Scriptorium with Calligraphy and Theology. Scriptures could also give a small culture bonus to School of Scribes.

What do you think? I can post this on the MantisBT forum if you think it's a good idea.
