Tech Tree Discussion

Suggestion: Place Shamanism and Druidism After Sed Life.

Why? The 2 AI that gets these 2 Earliest religions have an overwhelming unfair advantage over all other AI and some players. The Player that gets either 1st will always dominate.

So No Religion founded Before Sed Life. Really not concerned if not "historically accurate" about this either.

I thought that this mod was a long-time sacrificial calf on the altar of "historical realism".

Besides, Shamanism is the classic Stone Age religion. It would be very odd to not have it in the Prehistoric era.

Where and when did you get that idea? It's Always been a "What If" Mod, ask the founder and author SO.

But yes we have a Lot of Posters who keep trying Very hard to Make it a "historical realism" mod. It is not.

If it stays in Pre Era then it needs to be further up the tree than it is now, same opinion on Druidism.

For those of us who apparently don't have the X coordinates of the various techs engraved on our memories, whereabouts is that?

Thanks for that. Fiddling with Christianity would also mean messing with Theology and Papacy, to say the least, but Fundamentalism and Islam are still both early mediaeval techs.

That is, of course, if "Christianity" is supposed to be around when it starts and not when it gets swinging, which is the late Classical and early Mediaeval.

Shinto must be early Medieval religion (x44, x45) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinto#History. Nyaaa

You already said that. I didn't disagree then.

I do believe historical accuracy has a place in C2C and this would shatter that far too deeply. C2C is a way for some of us to theorize on what could have otherwise been but to do that properly we shouldn't be purposefully disrupting what obviously was. Furthermore, all three prehistoric religions are extra weak in comparison as their shrines only provide culture. If they provided gold or research like the later ones then I could see the problem but as it stands, the primary 'dominance' they provide is a massive amount of culture which really only matters so much with a few options in play that make culture mean a bit more. Their buildings primarily give happiness and health and its quite possible to get on top of those things without these religions. Maybe a little extra food and some added benefits for riders if you've got tengri... nothing to establish TOO great an unfair advantage. (until later when some unhealth eliminating buildings are too much for shamanism and animism.)

You always have to disagree don't you. :p

As you can see later On in this discussion (my self quote) I suggested Both the earliest religions could just move further back in the Preh Era.

But hey you moved techs around already, so why can't others? :dunno:

I suppose I just don't see the purpose in it. Those early religions were extremely primal and as far back as we can determine any kind of religious thought among people these were the forms we see.

EDIT: I guess what I'm trying to say is that I strongly feel that where we access the first 3 religions now is absolutely perfect.

There is something seriously wrong with the current tech tree.

U should be able to click on any tech and it "lights" up 4 u. But this no longer happens for some reason??

It is still working fine for me. The colours are different because we are using Platyping's tech tree. I could probably set it back to the old RoM ones. Which reminds me I/someone need to remove that option from the BUG options.

Try clicking on Mosaic Working or better yet Mountaineering, i bet it wont work, u should be able to click on anything and it should light up??

Click on the Red "x" at the top and see if that fixes the problem. There is a tech after Concrete that requires a building. having that yellow box around the red "x" means that that tech is not shown until you have the building.

Probably means we have to go back to the old tech tree screen. Platyping's just does not work for me and I had to kludge it to work for me which means it is not optimal for others. :(
