I wonder if Civilization doesn't include a technology capping option because the developers never thought to include it, or because they decided against it.

What I mean by tech capping is essentially a complement to starting time period. At the beginning of a game, during setup, it would be awesome to have an option that would stop technology during the classical age, if, for instance, I wanted to play the entire game with only classical technologies.

As it stands now, civilizations like Rome sometimes don't have much time to use their special units. A full game using Legions and Ballistae would be great.

Are there mods for this?

You could maybe try selecting to start at the Ancient era and finish at the Classical era, in a Marathon game.

I guess you will have many turns to use your ballistae and legions.

Nice post.

I seem to remember a similar scenario on one of the previous civs! I quite enjoyed it for a change.

I've not seen mods for this yet. Like I've said elsewhere, the best I think you can do is to try to play in such a way as to slow technological progress. But it requires quite a bit of meta-gaming. I've not really figured out any real tricks to do so, yet, but I think it can be done.

I don't understand why this feature is not implemented on the basic game, shouldn't be difficult to do and it is requested / asked pretty much weekly on this and cIV forum.

Yes - exactly - if i could play as my country, in my own location, you guys would never hear from me again! Surely that is an incentive for the game designers!

Search in the mods area for "end at <enter eraa> era" and you find the mod. It disables the tech after the ending era. Be careful as naval capabilites might be affected by era ending time.

I like this idea.

Also, it would be sweet to have two speeds for the game, one for science and other to prod.

I really think that the tech discovery is too fast..

I would like to play one game with production standard and science epic, or epic/marathon

I feel that this is a bad idea. Winning the game by beating the enemy over the head with sticks makes victory a little hollow in my opinion. It is only by razing nations to the ground with giant unrealistic robotic monstrosities and fully-armoured battle rhinos does winning seem worth it.

There is a series of mods for this type "End at" in your mod buddy search and it'll come up with a few, you have to download each one for each age you want to stop at.

Sort of defeats the purpose dosen't it? I mean the development of technology as ages pass is sort of a core concept in the game. Not sure I see the point of stopping technology development.

Not if you want your medieval scenario to stay medeival but don't want to do lots of modding or if you like combat before the modern era and would like to prolong it.
