This is getting a bit pointless unless someone around here has actualy studied dark age tactics on how the Franks used axes. I've seen refrences to both ways, throwing it en masse or at targets. As I've said I'm no expert on throwing axes. I'm not sure I agree with much of the danger of the axe comes from ricochet from the ground. If the axe hits the ground it might ricochet a bit, but not to do any real damage. Regardless, this is getting a bit pointless. The_Coyote gave us a fransisca animation.

I guess it is pointless since I have studied it a little. Everything I have said is not so much opinion as things that I have read/seen for myself. The richochet/wild behavior after being thrown part is indeed actually something that I have seen referenced in several different sources.
