Well, aside from your 'colourful' re-naming of a city ...

Before I start, I don't play large maps and I don't play on Marathon speed (or should I say; "lack of speed") - so forgive any nuances that I might miss due to your game settings ... which drew an unusually high number of Aggressive tribes - I wonder if there was some other setting working there too.

You have seemingly played on the game that you've posted - and done so with some success - good work taking down the Incas, as they were strong and advanced.

On the basis of your earlier saved game, I'd say;

Civics

Your civic choices are not good. The two that I have issue with are running;

(1.) The Caste System with no Specialist Artists, Scientists, or Merchants - why when you've got Slavery as an option?

(2.) Nationhood when all you've got is Musketmen to draft? 'Bureaucracy' rules in this instance (as it does usually).

Wonders

I don't have issue with either The Oracle or The Colossus (watery map) - but The Sistine Chapel? I am aware that you have Marble, but this I don't understand the attraction unless you're under huge Cultural pressure or going for a Culture victory; that could have been 7 Catapults with change.

City Management

You need to grow the bulk of your cities so you get more out of them. In the game you've posted Uppsula is probably the most glaring illustration of a city that would be great if it had a population ... even with a Sheep Pasture there! You would get far more :science: out of it by working the Sheep tile + Coastal tiles (growing the population) than worrying about building a University in 50-odd turns.

Technology

You have left the two big City Management technologies - Currency and Code of Laws - until 890AD. These convert your sprawling cities of the early game that are as much a drain on finances as anything, into a healthy if not booming economy. Writing and Alphabet were also left quite late, and meant that you couldn't build Libraries or trade technologies until you were reasonably deep into the game. I understand the attraction of Machinery - but you also need Civil Service in order to build Berserkers, and again this was deferred until quite late in the game. Since then you have seemingly capitalised on this UU well.

Units

In the game you posted you only have two Treb's. Seige weaponry is very useful at taking out cities in terms of both bombardment as well as collateral damage - you should ensure you have plenty of these when you go on the attack. You also seem to be 'light' in terms of your navy.

In the posted game - you had three Workers sleeping in Uppsala - there was still plenty to do, especially as you were one turn from Lumbermills.

Barbarians

There are two great Barbarian cities in Ainu (Pigs and 3x Silk) and the more difficult-to-take-because-it's-on-a-hill Ligurian (Crab, Fish, and Silk). I would use(d) your existing Berserkers to take these two.

Again, you've done well in since taking out the Incan tribe, and earlier Egypt. Clearly some good war-mongering skills that might be helped with a few 'domestic' issues' attention.

I hope some of this helps, and best of luck! :)

Hey thanks for your advice! I have a few questions though.....

whats wrong with my naming of a city? haha....

and how do i deal with the citizens growing angry whenever i let the city grow? I like to whip as it deals with unhappy citizens 'sometimes'...but i i dont like how it inhibits growth! So i changed to that one civic (i cant remember the name right now) which makes citizens happy due to military presence. the only problem is that im going to have to make a new mititary unit every time a city grows. So I guess what im trying to ask is since my country isnt the most cultured civ...is the military presence civic (along with happy resources) the only choice i have to make them happy?

Of course if im in peace time ill build some theaters/happy buildings...but usually im in a war or preparing for one...what should i do?

Thanks in advance

oh and one more question....whats the best wonders for a warmonger who is finacial on a water map.

i thought the great lighthouse and the colosuss were good?

Keeping citizens happy is one of the major focus points during a game. There are many ways: ensure you connect happy resources (found new cities if necessary), trade for happy resources, build certain buildings that provide happiness due to certain resources, increase the culture slide to mention a few. If you have a city that is growing too large, use one or two specialists to reduce the growth rate. This can be done on a permanent basis if there are no suitable tiles to work.

Hereditary rule is very good to keep people happy but garrison a lot of units is a waste. When you whip, ensure that your previous whip-unhappiness is gone, that you have at least one production done already and if needed you can whip large buildings that consumes more than one population.

It takes a lot of practice to get all these things balanced. Good luck!!!

... and you'd be right! ;)

It's always pretty situation-dependent, however the 'usual suspects' of The Pyramids*, The Great Library, The Oracle, The Kremlin and The Pentagon all probably would be also viewed as advantageous. You could put a case to include others or challenge the suggested.

*The Pyramids comes at a hefty price, and the chance of self-building this becomes slimmer as you progress in levels - it does not expire during the game, so it may be one to consider capturing rather than building.
