Tell me what you think...

Okay, different preferences deserve multiple choice. Thanks for the input.

I don't see where Osama was portrayed as a hero though. I find that confusing.

The cartoony caricture leaderheads is pretty unique though.

I agree. I didn't know the portrayal of his image would be so sensitive. I certainly didn't intend to depict him as a 'hero' and I too like the cartoony pic although my sister prefers the sketch. Therefore, those three images along with a couple others will be available. Instructions will be given to noobs (like myself until very recently) with the official release on how to use 'em.

I'd use the second one, "without a cane". I don't see what's wrong with giving Bin Laden a similar style of portrait to all the others - you've certainly got a fair few "villains" in there already. I really like the caricature style.

Thanks for the input Plotinus. Kieran decided that "without a cane" would be the default although the other FLCs will be available to DL as well.

Your suggestion to give each leader custom text is being implemented.

Thanks again!

Quick question concerning the use of taube87 reference at this link Two units with the same name!

Using the method described in the above thread by taube87 I plan on pre-placing War On Terror and Troop Surge wonders with the same name in Washington, Baghdad, and Kabul yet I want them to produce different effects for each city.

Here is the planned format (subject to change):

America - Washington, D.C.

A double-edge sword!

So as you can see the Troop Surge and War On Terror wonders pre-placed in Washington produce forces to combat terrorists while the ones pre-placed in Baghdad and Kabul produces the terrorists themselves America will have to respond to since they are occupying those countries. This is to reflect America's preoccupation with the Islamic world.

I'll test this myself at a later time to see if taube87's method of 'renaming' can be applied to Improvements/wonders but I was just wondering if anyone knew off-hand.

I don't know off-handedly, but I would be willing to bet that that would work. Also, did you make the tech/resource icons yourself (or Kieran), and if you did, could a selection of those be made available before the general release? If you don't want to, it's fine, but no matter what, great job on the mod! (Makes em wonder how to squeeze n some terrorists in to my upcoming Iroquois Federation mod! Wonder if they could try to prevent the unification of the tribes:mischief: ) Any way, great work!

I appreciate the reply. Just let me know which images you need and I'll provide them for general release in the Graphics Modpacks tab (or exclusively to you). Also, I'll start a 'Taking GFX request' thread when I get time. Nothing we're doing is exclusive until the official release. I'm more than willing to help in any way I can. I've actually started a mini-mod on the side to pass the time when I'm not in contact with Kieran. He usually contacts me sporadically to request information updates and GFX.

I don't think terrorist the way you plan them will work. They nedd to be produced.

They will be produce through the city screen as well. These are just specialized Modern Marvels (wonders) to somewhat control their frequency and reflect the current situations in those regions. Didn't mean to mislead you.

2008 Beijing Olympics

2008 Beijing Olympics - Brief Description

2008 Beijing Olympics - Complete

2008 Beijing Olympics - Mascots

The Fuwa (formerly Friendlies, Chinese: Pinyin: Fúwá; literally "Good-luck dolls") are the mascots of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. They were announced by the National Society of Chinese Classic Literature Studies on November 11, 2005 at an event marking the 1000th day before the opening of the games.

The Fuwa consists of five members according to the traditional five elements: Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying, and Nini. Each of the five names is designed to look like a plausible name for a small child, but when put together, they sound nearly identical to the phrase "Běijīng huānyíng nǐ" which means "Beijing welcomes you". Each of the five figures also represents one of the five Olympic Rings.

Two of the five mascots represent members of endangered species.

SUPPORT CONSERVATION :) I DO!

Some interesting concepts regarding the trading of nuclear weapons, serial production of said weapons by buildings, different resources, and overall fiddling with the labels.
The Cox and Forkum leaderheads are amusing and quite fitting in many cases.

The units posted above can definitely have their descriptions reworked - the X-51 in particular, as it sounds more sensationalist than informative and the J-XX is far too long. Overall, they just seem out of place.
The screenshots are nice; a list of units would allow a more detailed critique.

I would just call the Olympics "2008 Olympics". Especially when they are built in Cuzco. ;)

Nice reply Simon Darkshade. Thanks for that! Now, concerning the units and the descriptions I provided; as I stated earlier in this thread I'm simply providing a showcase to allows previews of some commodities available in the mod. Remember this is Kieran's mod so I'm limited as to what details I can provide in previews. For example, the aluminum you see shown is the default aluminum pic that came standard with the game although there is definitely a ['new'] aluminum icon that will be available in the mod. The ['real'] descriptions of commodities will have their appropriate entries [with hyperlinks and such] as they will appear in the mod. I'm simply posting screenshots and giving a little background information regarding some things for individuals who may be wondering "what's this?". Later I will post a screenshot of an actual description as it is fully featured in the mod if Kieran permits it. Lastly, as we near completion a full list of highly detailed features will be revealed. I hope this clears things up for you. Keep your feedback coming. :)

 Great response regarding Cuzco! I actually noticed where it was built after I had already posted. But seriously, it's already simply called ['2008 Olympics'].

Thank God it's not set in 2012 - you'd have to have that bland monstrosity of an Olympics logo that's been imposed upon London...

Would you elaborate please? I was unaware. Could you post a screenie of that logo?

Some interesting concepts regarding the...overall fiddling with the labels.

Darkshade, here is the method I use to alter the Text.
(this is great for trial and error because you don't have to exit out of the game for text changes to occur)

Here is the entire title screen.
(Celebrate Shark Week’s 20th anniversary on the Discovery Channel and learn more about shark behavior and conservation.)

The Cox and Forkum leaderheads are amusing and quite fitting in many cases.

The Cox and Forkum website is now one of my favorites. I'm glad Kieran revealed it to me. I especially like his concept of using their caricatures for leaderheads as well as his idea of ['Evolving Leadership/Leaderheads'].
I spoke about this earlier with Cuba regarding political power transition. This mod will have very interesting concepts.

Here is a reference I provided to Taras Bulba. It is one of many software programs I'm using to assist in the development of the W2K7 - ID@ES mod. It called Earth Explorer.

Longitude, Population, and GDP.

List of countries.

Thanks Mirc! I'll start taking request whenever I have more time.
