Temples and monasteries give production?

Hi!

I actually subscribed to this forum only to find me an answer of a weird feature in civ which I never quite understood..

How come sometimes temples and monasteries give +2 production? It seems to happen always with religion which is not my own religion, or state religion.

An example from my current game:

I found confucianism, my neighbour found buddhism.. I also found taoism later. Some buddhism spreaded into my area. Later I took over the whole country and conquered buddhist holy city. Taoism is my state religion currently.

Now I've realized a moment ago that building BUDDHIST temples or monasteries give also +2 productions.. I'm pretty sure the feature was already there already before I took over their country.. But whats the logic here? I don't understand.. I'm sure in my other games the same has happened, also then with other religion spreading into my area.. Anyone has a logical explanation for this?

I also chatted with my friends in other forum about this and they have experienced the same but never understood the logic neither.. is this a bug?

Thanks!

The Apostolic Palace gives all religious buildings of its religion +2:hammers:

So apparantly, someone built the AP under Buddhism in your game.

All religious buildings in the Apostolic Palace-religion gives +2:hammers: You loose this benefit if you defy an AP-resolution. See this guide

Ok thanks, came in very handy :)

I really did suspect all along that exactly my other neighbour had built a wonder which caused it, and I thought it's something like university of sankore etc, so I made him convert into Taoism as well (as I had tons of taoist buildings).. but apparently the hammer bonus only stays for the religion which he used when building the AP.. DOH :D ..so now I've built useless taoist temples when I should've been building buddhists all the time.

Those taoist temples will not be useless if you go for a cultural win. Use them to green light the Pagoda in your biggest :culture: cities, and enjoy the 50% :culture: boost.
In the interim, you still get the extra happiness and can add a priest to those cities.

Does this also give :hammers: to other civilizations' Buddhist buildings as well? i.e. I own the AP, does Ms. Hatsephut-over-the-river also benefit from the +:hammers:?

Also, Free Religion grants +1 :) for each Religion in your cities, so it will still be a good idea to spread Taoism and other religions to cities that need the extra happiness, if you have the time during conquering.

AP-Temples are seriously great.

Normal temples, even those boosted by the 2 other Wonders, are almost useless though.

When conquering the wonders though, the built AP-temples become really great.

i build temples when i want to pop a prophet for a shrine in my gp city... and need the specialists, and cant run caste?

bad tactics?

A single temple for a single Great Prophet to build a single Shrine, usually is a really good idea.

Building temples in all cities, is usually really bad play, except they're AP-temples. ^^
