Temporary Fortifications

I usually have my military units construct temporary fortifications when they are not moving, in order to help improve their defense.

However, the game's built-in wiki does not identify how temporary fortifications work.

Has anyone been able to figure out how much extra defense temporary fortifications provide to military units?

For best results fortify in rough terrain to stack that bonus too:
