Term 3 nominations thread

I hope I'll win this in election because my goal is to get fewer votes than you and to ensure that anyone who even considered voting for me thinks again and decides to put the X next to Nemo instead! :goodjob:

D means declined. I've now edited the top post. Sorry about the confusion. I was going to use R for refused nomination but Duke edited the post to give me a hand and used D like we have done in previous elections so I just followed on that way. Makes sense really. I'm a little confused as to how civ1-addict has declined one nomination, accepted another, but is still unconfirmed for his third. ;)

If we were in the Civ 3 game then there would be zillions of people playing so we could afford to make the Newspaper Editor independent of the government but in the middle of the Civ sandwich, we can't afford such luxuries. If people think that the position has to be separate from the government then please say so and Octavian will have to choose between getting editorship automatically for the first turn (it was his idea after all) or battling it out for both the presidency and the editorship. :)

If you have accepted a nomination then you can, like last time, make your views known in the election thread for the position you are going for. Of course, we'll have some idea of what your views are from your participation in other threads but feel free to expound them to the masses and to make yourself sound as good as possible! ;)
And remember folks:

If Octavian is running for President, shouldn't the position of Newspaper Editor come up for nomination.

....I would have thought that the newspaper editor would need to be impartial, and therefore not a member of the Government...

I agree on this point, otherwise there's a potential conflict of interest. I think that both of these jobs together are too large for a single person. I shall wait however, for the current President to pass judgement. If it is deemed that the post of Newspaper Editor is open for nominations then:

...I nominate powersg as he has written a couple of good sample articles so far.

Then I would accept.

Basically I am going to decline all nominations since I will be starting a part time job and I'm not sure how much time that is going to leave for a role in the Demo game. Thanks anyway though! :D

I have put my own nomination for Octavian X as newspaper editor in then, and so he and powersg can contest this election with anyone else that people may nominate.
Fair enough that it is now an accountable position, yet separate from the government. If the paper's rubbish then don't expect the people to invite you back as editor but if it's good then you may keep your job! This will be a great incentive! :goodjob:
Vive la democratie et VOTEZ GARYNEMO!

Hooray! I finally have time to post in the forums again! Sorry about ditching this with no notice, but it couldn't be helped as my workload increased four fold over the course of 3 weeks. But anyway I' back now :).

However I feel must decline my nomination for the posiion of Science Advisor as my knowledge of the tech tree is not my strength, but I will nominate myself for Military Advisor since only duke sems to be running and I want to kill people :D.

I was kinda hoping I'd get to run the newspaper I started...
*sigh*

Of course I will run for the newspaper I started! And also the presidency, despite the fact I've lost to Jayne before.

I am allowed to do that, right? Run for both? Since editor isn't an offical position...

Octavian, Jayne's cute icon is tough to run against. I saw the same thing happen at a Beatles Imitation contest a month ago. And in both cases, the cute one was/is competent, so why not? We will vote you in as our Newspaper Editor.

Mordheim, glad to see you back. But beware, there may be no killing for centuries. I nominate you for Domestic Advisor. You started us! Lead on!

Sorry for the R and D thing. I just skimmed over the first post since I figured I knew what it was about. ;)

Editor can be voted on, but will not be considered an 'official' position, so there is no need to choose between editor and an 'official' position.

BTW, people can run for two 'official' positions, but they can only hold one. So, only if they win both positions that they run for then they must decide between one. They do not have to decide to run for only one position.

I know Fanatica wants an avatar with Homer Simpson's profile and a question mark! (Civ3 demogame RPG thing I was planning).

Who do you want, a fat eater of doughnuts or a scantily clad woman bending over?
Wait, I think I just answered my own question....

No thanks to the position of Domesic Advisor. Nemo's doing a great job and I don't really want to have too much work to do at the moment.

But look, I'm already practising my Military Advisor skills:

"Build city walls!!! (especially in the capitol)"

"Give me more soldiers sire, so that we may crush the heads of our enemies!!!"

Now all I need is a beer belly and some medievil armour....

Is it agreed that someone can hold both the position of newspaper editior and a government position? The above discussions does not explictly mention this however it implies the case.

I think Jayne's initial point was questioning if you can hold a government postion and the newspaper editor postion at the sametime.

If it is agreed that both positions can be held by the same person, then I am happy to withdraw my nomination for newspapaer editior since it has already been agreed that Octavian X can bring his ides to fruition. DoM, Please make the necessary arrangements based on a simple answer to my question above.

Waitaminute! I was nominated for Foregin Affairs? Sure, I'll take that. Didn't realize this is how it worked. Sorry.

Well, there wasn't a great choice of 'girlie' avatars. I think it's quite cute! But, if you think I'm gaining an unfair advantage from it..... that's politics!!
