hi everybody...
i have a few questions:
1. i was trying to find info about how long it takes to complete a particular terrain improvment on a particular terrain type. where can i get this info for all improvements on all terrain types?
2. how long does it take to clear pollution? what does it depend on? only on the terrain type where pollution occurred or there is also pollution severity factor?
3. correct me if i am wrong - non-native workers work twice as long as your native workers?
4. why would i NOT be able to build a railroad on a particular square? i CAN build railroads already and have them almost everywhere and that particular square where i am trying to build a railroad already has a road (but it wont let me build a railroad there, the railroad button is absent). any ideas?
Thank you!

Welcome to Civfanatics.

1. There is no one place to find out how fast it takes to terraform. That's because terraforming is dependent on many different conditions, such as which government you're in or whether you have the Industrious trait, just to name two.

2. The time for clearing pollution again is dependent on several variables, like government. There are no severity levels of pollution, either a square has pollution or it doesn't.

3. If you capture or buy workers from another civ, they will work at half speed compared to your home-grown workers.

4. To build a railroad, you have to have an existing road and access to both coal and iron. If, for some reason, a particular square doesn't have access to these resources (usually by a road connecting to a city which has access), then you can't build a railroad there.

thanx for your reply...
as for the last question, the most confusing thing is that that tile does have connection to a road becuase just a few squares away i can build railroads and those squares are all connected with a road... weird...

I second that Welcome to Civfanatics :)

1. The answer to "how long does xxx take" can be found in the civ3 editor. The value listed in the editor, IIRC, is for slave workers under anarchy. You then have to apply the following rules.

- slave workers work at 50% of normal speed.
- under anarchy, all workers work at 50% of normal speed.
- Industrious civs have 100% bonus in Civ3 and PTW, and only 50% bonus in C3C.
- under democracy, all workers gets 50% speed bonus.
- In C3C, under Fascism, all workers gets 100% speed bonus.
- Upon researching Replacible Parts, all workers gets 100% speed bonus.
- All bonuses and penalties combine in an additive way.

This is only true for regular workers. In Conquests(only) slave workers do not get the industrious bonus, also I am not sure if they get the Democracy either (too tired to check). I am hardly ever fascist so wouldn't know about that.

4. If you have built a railroad on a square but on no adjacent squares it can be hard to tell. Perhaps you already have rails there.

The editor value is for normal workers under anarchy.
