Terraria

You can only remove walls that are at the 'edge' afaik, so I guess you have to hammer away all the walls starting from the top.

Later, when you find a bomb, you can attract the bomb-making NPC and buy dynamite (for 50 silver each, not cheap). Dynamite will leave a large hole in the background at around sea level, though it won't dig once you are sufficiently underground (which is I think 75 feet underground if you have the Depth Meter).

Also if you start getting stuck and give in to reading a FAQ on how to craft, I recommend the Terraria wiki. It's probably more fun to try to do more with less though. Forces you to develop little creative tactics which is part of the fun I think.

I'm having trouble setting goals for myself. It seems in Minecraft the goals you set for yourself happen by themselves (building something, a lot of the time, finding nice locales to build into, exploration). In this though I'm not too sure, I guess... Upgrade my stuff?

You could see how long you can survive in the underworld.

I'd like to buy it, but..Well, i sort of don't like steam.

I've managed to sneak a Creeper in Terraria ;)

Yeah, it erected at the site where I defeated the Eye of Cthulhu :p.

Another note re the underground house: I just discovered that, starting at a certain depth, you can just put new wall tiles over the already existing ones. So you just have to dig deep enough and can then start building without having to hammer away the walls.

Wow I didn't know that!

Goals:

1. Attract all the NPCs to a location. In other words, build a city somewhere
2. Build spawn points at all interesting locations that you find.
3. Build a causeway covering most of the map to make travel quicker.
4. Explore Corruption and awaken and kill all the boss worms.
5. Upgrade your stuff to complete sets of armor.
6. Explore to the lava level.
7. Mine 20 obsidian and craft an obsidian skull.
8. Level up your Hearts to 10.
9. Level up your Mana to 10.
10. Kill Skeletron.
11. Build a pink castle out of Dungeon bricks.
12. Explore the Dungeon.
13. Dig out the desert and rebuild it in glass.
14. Travel to both edges of the map.
15. Find a floating island and build a castle in it.
16. Start a 'shroom farm
17. Find and explore the underground jungle. Find/Craft all the stuff you can from it. E.g. Blade of Grass.
18. Craft a Nightmare Pick (which requires killing lots of bosses for ore drops), then dig up enough Hellstone to make a Hellstone set.
19. Get the NPCs into a city in the hellstone biome. Save them from imps and stuff. Summon bosses to your city and push them into the lava.

My actual game#1 goals have been:

1. Build a NPC city on the starting spawn.
2. explore to the east edge and explore the ocean at the edge (found some unique goodies like flippers).
3. Build safehouse spawn points at places of interest (Corruption, Dungeon, near a meteorite fall in Corruption).
4. Build a castle for killing all the Eater of World bosses that I awoke in corruption. It's basically kind a long horizontal hall and several vertical levels with wood ramps so I can jump quickly around without getting hit, but still take sword wacks at the boss.
5. Mine meteorites in Corruption (this was very challenging).
6. Build a horizontal causeway to make travel easier (not quite done, but a little does help a lot).
7. Collect 20 obsidian to make an obsidian skull.
8. Tunnel down to hellstone region and fool around (still can't actually pick at the ore yet, but I collected some bricks).
9. Annoy Skeletron then die; try to break into the dungeon and steal without killing Skeletron (impossible, even if you remove the back walls).
10. Collect a silver set of armor; get all gold tools.
12. Found a musket, then bought a pistol.

This looks kind of bad.. from the video on the OP's link.. :\ Think I'll stick to minecraft. :p

I watched a Let's Play, it actually looks pretty fun if you have a friend. I probably won't get it unless it has like 75% off on Steam.

I bought it some time ago and it's quite fun actually, for a while. There are some annoyances like reappearing back at your spawn point after you leave the program and come back, but it has many more positive aspects. It does tend to get old once you've got all the items though - Minecraft is a million times better on the sandbox side of things.

I was under the impression that they were going to continue to release new content.

That's the idea, but I think once you reach your burn-out threshold, it's hard to get back into. I got pretty bored after investing 20 hours into it, but that was around v.1.2. I've barely started it since.

Still, that's a decent time for a game that costs $10.

Yeah worth $10 or less, and they've been steadily patching it. But like I said...hard to get back into if it's not quite finished.

I started playing it today... or maybe it was around 11?

Anyway, it's decent fun. My biggest gripe is the noise the earthworms make. Freaks the crap out of me. Which got me thinking... I probably wouldn't jump if I wasn't the only person playing.

We need a CFC multiplayer server.
