Iran Arrests Suspected Elements behind Recent Terrorist Attacks

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar announced on Sunday that security forces have arrested a number of perpetrators of the recent terrorist attacks on the country's scientists and university professors.

"At present we are doing the necessary follow-ups to arrest the (remaining) elements behind the assassination of the two university professors, and a number of these elements have already been arrested by the intelligence ministry," Mohammad Najjar told reporters.

He underlined that the confessions made by the arrested terrorists indicate Israel's direct role in the recent attacks.

"The world Zionism and their arrogant agents, like Mossad, as well as certain European countries are angry at Iran's progress, and they, thus, resort to terrorist measures against Iranian scientists," Najjar stated.

Two Iranian university professors Fereydoon Abbasi Davani and Majid Shahriari were assassinated in separate terrorist bomb attacks here in Tehran on Monday with the latter killed immediately after the blast.

Another Iranian university professor and nuclear scientist, Massoud Ali Mohammadi, was also assassinated in a terrorist bomb attack in Tehran in January.

Iranian officials took the Zionist regime of Israel and US hirelings inside Iran responsible for the terrorist operation.

Three days after the attack, Iranian Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi announced that his forces have arrested a number of perpetrators.

"With the arrest of these people, we have found new clues to arrest other elements," Moslehi added in his remarks on Thursday.

"The three spy agencies of Mossad, CIA and MI6 played a role in these attacks," Moslehi added.

The Iranian intelligence minister added that the individuals who cooperated with these spy services were part of an extensive organization and planned to carry out more attacks but they were arrested.

Iran Accuses IAEA Inspectors Of Acting As 'Spies'

Iranian intelligence minister, Heydar Moslehi accused the International Atomic Energy Agency of collaborating with intelligence services of other countries.

In an official event Moslehi said: “The inspectors of the IAEA include spies from foreign services and the Agency has to be held accountable for this.”

According to ISNA, the intelligence minister also questioned the motivations of the United Nations in announcing the names of Iranian nuclear scientists in their resolution. He maintained that as a result of these resolutions the "names of Iranian scientists have been revealed and the US and Britain are after these scientists.".

Last Monday, two separate assassinations attempts were carried out against two Shahid Beheshti University professors. Bomb explosions led to the death of Majid Shariyari but only injured Fereydoon Abbasi.

Fereydoon Abbasi is one of the individuals named in the United Nation Security Council’s 1737 resolution in its list of people linked to Iran’s nuclear program.

Heydar Moslehi charged Mossad, CIA and MI6 of “definite involvement in the assassination of Iranian physicists.”

He added: “We have discovered clues that this group was trying to carry out other operations but were unsuccessful and that they have been trained by foreign spy agencies.”

He claimed that the foreign spy agencies have used individuals who have been against the Islamic Republic from the early days of the Revolution.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also accused the United Nations of precipitating the recent assassinations by listing the names of Iranian scientists in its resolutions.
More Iranian hyperbole? Or is there an element of truth to the allegations? Is it just a coincidence that prominent Iranian scientists continue to get killed by terrorist acts?

Meh, Israel probably are involved but they've done so much bad stuff this is pretty minuscule.

Yeah, but I'm not upset about this action. The recent wikileak shows that the efforts to work with Iran through diplomacy weren't just a facade. When play A doesn't work, well, targeted assassinations are less messy than planes bombing.

There is nothing wrong with terrorist activities and the assassination of civilians once you have already become convinced through gossip ostensibly protected by the classifications laws, propaganda promulgated by those with obvious agendas, and even deliberate lies that you must be right. It's just another day of freedom, liberty, and vigilante justice.

Why do we have to do either?

Civilians?
Don't you consider university professors, scientists, and in one case even a victim's wife, to be civilians?

I don't think it's that clear when they're working for a military program. Think of it as bombing a munitions factory in Nazi Germany -- it's not legally part of the armed forces, but what it does has such a close connection to them that the line gets blurred.

Oh, it is quite "clear":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civilian

A civilian under international humanitarian law is a person who is not a member of his or her country's armed forces or other militia or militant organization. The term is also often used colloquially to refer to people who are not members of a particular profession or occupation, especially by law enforcement agencies, which often use rank structures similar to those of military units.
Even in times of actual war they would still be classified as being civilians under international law.

Do you actually think that even someone who works at a national lab on military-related projects should be considered to be a legitimate target of assassination by any foreign government or terrorist organization? Or does that just pertain to certain other countries?

They are civilians working for a country that is not at war with anyone.

But they do actively support terrorist organizations with financing and material do they not?

And as Jolly so aptly points out, do you really doubt that those giving 'confessions' werent tortured?

I also think the allegation that the IAEA inspectors are somehow 'spies' is just simply ridiculous.
