Terrorists next target

Trust me, winter won't stop the guys who are after him now. If the Special Foeces we're after me I would just quit and commit Hari-Kari right now. A little sub-zero mountain air is nothing to these guys. Or the helecopters, they're all-weather.
The main problem is with finding him. After that, the rest is pretty much a piece of cake. This war is more on intelligence and information, rather than brute force. ;)

rmshape - Things are actualy pretty cozy with North Korea and the US right now. Go figure, it's a crazy world. I think we will see unification or at least a relaxation of the border in a few years. Check out some Korean news pages, it's incredible.

SKM - The special forces are there collecting intel on the targets as we speak. Their main job is surveilance, not getting into firefights. They rely heavily on the local populations for help, sometimes arming and training them. They may be guiding the bombs down from the planes to the targets with lasers (it's called GLD) and probing defenses around camps and bases. They operate in small teams, in disguise, and carrying weapons like AK-47s so they blend in. If you saw them, you wouldn't know it. They are very highly trained, motivated, and deadly.

A 5 million dollar bounty might help some of al-Qaida see the error in their ways, too.;)

That's very comforting to know. :) I was under the impression that you would get the intel and then send in the special forces to take out Osama and co. I didn't realize that the special forces are supposed to collect intel too. Let's hope they do finish job soon and then we can end this war ASAP. We can worry about other wars later.
Question - will they be able to communicate with locals? I don't think many in the special ops will be able to speak local?

Youre correct. Not alot of Americans speak Afghan.

Like I said, they use the local population heavily. They may hire interpreters, most likely NA people. They may also bring civilians along to interp.
We had Somoli-Americans with us in Mogadishu, civilians contacted by the DOD. Some were unlucky enough to be caught in firefights with us as well! During the Oct 3-4 battle, we gave the interps sidearms, totaly against policy, but it was so bad that night we didn't know if we were coming back anyway.

The way it should work is;
The Spec Ops get intel and chopper in to confirm. They radio for airstrikes from gunships or fighter-bombers and guide in the strike.
If its a populated area, they may fast-rope in and raid a target building like youve undoubtedly seen on TV. That is a high-risk operation, but we don't bomb or shell population areas.

Now I think you see why I hail these guys as the best of the best. Its a job more dangerous than a NYC taxi driver!;)

"Now after saying all that I hope I don't give the terrorists any ideas."

believe, theyve already thought of that. in fact, there are much better things they could target.

one thing ive noticed in the past few days:

i live next to a police station(no thats not what ive just noticed). they have a 24 hour watch up at every entrance(with squad cars blocking the way).(only started in the past few days.)

anyone else notice that?

just a thought.

There is a ANG base at the airport here in Milwaukee. They have barricades and SPs with loaded machine guns at the gates. There have been alot more police around the airport, I've noticed (I live very close by), and alot more military aircraft.

There is much more security than during the Gulf War. I've never seen anything quite like it in my lifetime, except on TV, but then it was in Isreal, not here. We will probably have to get used to it.
