Test pitboss

Not bigger than the last one, 6.3 compared to 7.1. But it was much closer (almost right under the city) and very shallow though, as well as occurring at midday compared to the middle of the night. Thus the aftermath is a lot worse - multiple buildings collapsed in the older city centre, buses crushed, quite a few people dead. Everyone I know is ok, but it's pretty chaotic regardless.

Ok, played the turn... over to you guys.

So, it turns out that you can wipe out a fort with a bombing mission (from for instance a guided missile), at which point all the ships in it are magically teleported out of it to somewhere completely exposed. You don't learn this stuff in single player, because when does the AI ever build a fort, put a fleet in it, defend it with ground troops, and expect their ships to be as safe as if they were in a city? Thus there is only one likely way for one to find out about these things, and that's the hard way.

So ends the second Indian fleet.

I knew I had a lot to learn still, it's annoying to find out that even includes basic game mechanics but such is life. Well played sir.

To be honest it was the first time I'd ever encountered the situation myself as well. I had to do rigorous testing using the WorldBuilder in single player to be sure it would even work. Then I just kept quiet and hoped no-one else would realise about it. Just one of the few tricks we still had up our sleeves. ;)

Incidentally, missile vs a fort is 37.5% success rate. Fighters are more like 8% (rand5 has to be greater than rand20)

Plus of course, missiles can't be intercepted, which is another big thing in their favour...

Okay, we're done. Over to the rest of you.

Uh... why has classical_hero been converted from AI, and who the heck is dick76? Isn't this something we should have discussed before it happened? If it's some random that's barged into our game, then we may need to reload (dunno, Elkad will probably have more of an opinion on that).

Was going to write here yesterday, but had no time.

Then I go forward and asked a friend of mine to take the Khmers. I see nothing wrong with that, as they were in our alliance anyway and actually we got a bad hit when CH was not playing in a critical phase of the game when Elkad invaded him, and since then they are not contributing much to us under the AI.

I actually see quite a few things wrong with it. Why should you be able to bring in a friend at a time where the obvious sole purpose is to increase the number of nukes you can fire in a few turns? Would it be fair if I recruited a mate to take over another AI so we can fire more nukes at you? Of course not. If you'd replaced classical_hero earlier it might have been okay, but with the timing of this replacement ages after he left and magically just as Manhattan is nearing completion, your reasoning for recruiting a replacement couldn't be more obvious. It's not fair to skew the upcoming nuke war by bringing in buddies at the last minute, so I really don't think you should be starting us down this slippery slope.

It is not "just another AI", but a nation, which WAS in our original alliance. What will you in particullar say if one of your allies decide to retire and we start arguing that replacing him (no matter of the time) will unballance the things?

What you're doing isn't replacing an ally though, it's resurrecting a long-dormant civ for your own personal benefit. What, you didn't care about the AI-controlled neighbour until nukes happened to be just a few turns away? I find that hard to believe. What's next, Grant's civ coming back too? How about v8mark and Chimera? Adding new players into the game at this late stage is just opening up a can of worms. Let's not go there.

Well, I have other things to worry beside this particullar game, so until now I did not found a replacement.
for your own personal benefit
And it is not for my personal benefit, but for our team's benefit - remember - at this stage the game is a team thing ;) Only because we did not asked for reloads when CH was missing turns and it was really important he to play, and after this no one never raised this issue and this one was going to be only me - everyone else have their own troubles. If you are so pedantic, and care for the fairness and ballance in this game, why did not you raised this issue when CH was turned to an AI?

I actually never had so much arguing in my whole short career as a pitbosser, as in this game with you. You might be in good position in this game and this to be well-deserved - I dont know, as I joined quite later, but this fussyness is beyond what I consider normal :)

My intention was not they to build nukes, but to defend effectively from Elkad, But, for the record - will you be OK if the khmers did not build, nor launch a single nuke in the next 30 turns? Will this be good?
If no, I'll just apology to my friend and explain him what happened and why he is not allowed to play in the game :)

Peace.

Sorry for the outburst... nerves are a bit on edge after this earthquake I guess. A little communication would have gone a long way towards preventing any misunderstanding though. For instance, just asking the turn before, "is it cool with everyone if my friend takes over classical_hero?", would have avoided this whole issue. Just saying. Being told in advance about something happening is much better than suddenly encountering a new player after many months of playing with no new players. ;)

And for the record, I'm not so concerned about Khmer themselves building nukes as I am about them sending gold around to other civs to let them build extra nukes.

Yes, I was going to write and ask here, but just had no time. I know this was the normal procedure :)

My friend (who is not an pitboss expert for the record) told me today that he playied his turn without actually considering out team is playing in the second half of the timer. I am ok with reload if you see there is need, because he told me he loses badly against Elkad anyway.

Luckily Elkad had already moved all the important things over there, and it shouldn't be a problem for me as I don't think Korea can do anything to me anyway. So we should be able to just keep going this time. Just try not to do it again. ;)

By the way, I'm having troubles logging in - seems our internet company has crapped out, presumably something related to the earthquake, so I'll try to sort out an alternative soon. Nabaxo's temporarily paused for me in the meantime. I'm using a dial-up connection at the moment that's useless for logging into the game (as you can see from Civstats).

Problem sorted, internet is back at a reasonable speed.

Over to you guys. :)

All done, over to you...

Much as I hate to slow the game down again, could I possibly request a pause? I'm away for the weekend, and I have both internet and civ but not on the same machine. Which is fine for my pbem but doesn't work for this. Normally I'd just miss a turn, but rumour has it this is something of a relatively important turn.
