T, I have played mod 1.70 as Spain on Monarch level and like the game. Cultural victory in 1525 AD.
Installation fixes:
The 1.66 file auto-installe in C:\infogrames
You have to copy the T folder to wherever you have installed the game.
Speed issues:
PTW is much faster than Civ3.
2.4 GHz Pentium, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD, GeForce4 MX440.
The game consumes 330 MB RAM and the swap file grew to 1.5 GB.
Play your mod for Civ3 or Marla Singer's map on this machine makes the turns take unbearably long time.
Your rule changes:
- Settlers
Cost 3 citizens and 300 shields. Can't build city on forest, hill, mountain, and tundra tiles.
Seems realistic, and had no serious problems with it.
I used my two settlers to found two cities and produced one more to build a third city iSpain (no room for more). Then I built barracks in all citites and started produce archers, archers, and more archers. With them and constantly new archers I captured citites from the celts, romans, greeks, the land of present Turkey. After catching my breath and got the Templar Knights, I took the rest of Europe, expanded into half of Siberia, conquered Middle East and entire Africa.
Nowhere I meet any danger.
- The Worker and Settlers stacks placed toghether with barbarian troops.
Nice to get all those workers. What's amazing is that none of the Africican civs had touched them. Getting all those workers would have helped them to clear the jungle and grow.
- Takes longer time to cut down forests and jungle.
Okey to me.
The AI can't handle all those changes very well because it use the strategy adapted to stanard rules.
AI starts the game by procuding settlers and sending them out to build cities. Because it now takes many turns to prodice a settler the AI cities are left poorly protected, and the AI have very week offensive powers. Thus no resistance worth mentioning. Many AI civs halts in development, e.g. I found the Zulus with much territory but small cities, and much too few tiles with irrigation or mines. Russia was even worse - they ruscies doesn't understand they have to crate many workers to cut down the forsest so the civ can grow strong.
Monarch level here is easier than in a stanbdard game.
- Decrease road bonus from 3 to 2 tiles.
Very okey. Give a realisitic feeling of the problem with those large distances.
I give you a rating of 4.
Keep on the good work.
