TETurkhan Test of Time (Map & Mod)

I am disappointed that some people are rating this mod 2 to 3 out of 5. If you are going to rate it this low, then at least specify what your criticisms are with the mod. The majority of problems and issues people seem to email me with are ones regarding installation - which I promptly reply to and assist with.

Lots of work went into this map and mod, giving it a rating of 2 out of 5 in my view is a cheap shot.

I added my vote now, and it's back to 5 stars! :)

..I wouldn't get bummed by the negative ratings, T. Your mod is an outstanding example of what is possible using the editor, as well as being just pure fun! I've had no probs playing, using your latest update. I have a friend who is experiencing probs, similar to those described above, but he hasn't installed the latest version. He's waiting for the new one, as I am. Glad to hear you're getting it out quicker than anticipated, and looking forward to it.

And for those of you having probs with the Chinese or Indians, try playing the Mongols, you'll have a blast!

T, I have played mod 1.70 as Spain on Monarch level and like the game. Cultural victory in 1525 AD.

Installation fixes:
The 1.66 file auto-installe in C:\infogrames
You have to copy the T folder to wherever you have installed the game.

Speed issues:
PTW is much faster than Civ3.
2.4 GHz Pentium, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD, GeForce4 MX440.
The game consumes 330 MB RAM and the swap file grew to 1.5 GB.
Play your mod for Civ3 or Marla Singer's map on this machine makes the turns take unbearably long time.

Your rule changes:

- Settlers
Cost 3 citizens and 300 shields. Can't build city on forest, hill, mountain, and tundra tiles.
Seems realistic, and had no serious problems with it.

I used my two settlers to found two cities and produced one more to build a third city iSpain (no room for more). Then I built barracks in all citites and started produce archers, archers, and more archers. With them and constantly new archers I captured citites from the celts, romans, greeks, the land of present Turkey. After catching my breath and got the Templar Knights, I took the rest of Europe, expanded into half of Siberia, conquered Middle East and entire Africa.
Nowhere I meet any danger.

- The Worker and Settlers stacks placed toghether with barbarian troops.
Nice to get all those workers. What's amazing is that none of the Africican civs had touched them. Getting all those workers would have helped them to clear the jungle and grow.

- Takes longer time to cut down forests and jungle.
Okey to me.

The AI can't handle all those changes very well because it use the strategy adapted to stanard rules.
AI starts the game by procuding settlers and sending them out to build cities. Because it now takes many turns to prodice a settler the AI cities are left poorly protected, and the AI have very week offensive powers. Thus no resistance worth mentioning. Many AI civs halts in development, e.g. I found the Zulus with much territory but small cities, and much too few tiles with irrigation or mines. Russia was even worse - they ruscies doesn't understand they have to crate many workers to cut down the forsest so the civ can grow strong.
Monarch level here is easier than in a stanbdard game.

- Decrease road bonus from 3 to 2 tiles.
Very okey. Give a realisitic feeling of the problem with those large distances.

I give you a rating of 4.

Keep on the good work.

Thanks for the input Sangria.

Many of the issues you have brought up I have addressed in version 2.0 The AI is much better able to deal with the changes and the wait time has been reduced significantly.

I will try to have it posted by Friday.

Ok, I guess I'll live without upgrading spearmen until v2.0 comes out. As long as you're sure it won't interfere with my saved game......

Though I couldn´t solve the Problem with the missing Knights finally :( , I would give the Mod 4.5 Stars (rounded up to 5...) if someone would tell me how to vote !???

Tet, If I would like to build a new map, based on your general rules, is there anything to consider ? I would load the "Just Mod" bix-file in the editor and design the map on me preferences. Is that right ?

Using the editor you can choose the size of the map then go from there... I however recommend getting a good sized medium map available today... then modifying it and adding resources that are available in my mod. That would be more practical than creating a new map all together. The import tool in the editor can help with this.

The new version 2.0 is much faster than the previous one but still not enough for slower PC's. It would be great to have a medium size map for this mod - maybe you can focus on that.

this is the error that i have been getting...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Load Error

ERROR READING FILE
Missing Entry in "GameRes\text\Pedialcons.txt":ICON_BLDG_Gaia_Generators

The game will now exit

BadAndy, this mod assumes you have installed Civ3 PTW in the default folder. The error message indicates you have choosen another installation folder.

You will find the files belong to this mod in C:\Infogrames\...
Copy them from there to the corresponding folder in your installation folder. Then it will work.

thanks to everyone that emailed me offering to help test the new version of the mod... I will send out an email shortly providing you with the link to the new version which you can then test for me...

tomorrow at the latest...

wat???? but...but i think i DID install it in the right folder...how???
unless i....wat??? let me go home and check...

Tet... Great Mod. This is by far, my favorite world map. It'd be cool if you could somehow incorporate some of the advances and such from the Double Your Pleasure Mod. That one kicks ass too!!! Thanks for all your work.
