TETurkhans mod SG

There are multiple scenarios of this mod.
Which one are we playing?

NOTE: Still pre-sign up questions.

I was thinking of playing an 'odd' civ, like Israel or Tibet, wiht a 2 settler start. The new version, including the huge downlaodable patch.

So: no cities, but the given starting pos.

This game will be slow, but rewarding, especially if we do not take one of the favored civs like China.

OK, no starting cities.

Is this game just world map, or is the smaller varations?

I am kick myself for it, but sign me up.

Welcome!

Nice to have you on the team - we will need players with experience on huge maps.

I found civs with 7 cities rather give away 5 small towns for peace than 1 tech

Well, I've spent the last week playing the mod non-stop. :)

There is one thing that maybe obvious to all, but here it is anyway:

With 32 civs, trade is off the scale in importance. The first to writing has a huge advantage. The cost of techs is huge in the ancient times compared to empire size, so the AI researches very slowly as well. Also, the AI rarely goes for writing first.

If we start as a commercial civ (with alphabet) on the eurasian continent, the first 40 turns go to writing, and on turn 41 we have the advantage. I have played out 3 games on Deity as commercial civs and every time I am first to writing. In every game my gold pile is massive by now. Literature is only another 40 turns away, and the GL follows each time. Too easy by far IMO.

Starting in one of the more unusual positions may be worth considering (although I am not sure of the pros and cons of all).

What civ's do people think will be interesting? As you may have guessed, I would prefer not to start with alphabet or as a civ in an amazing start position. :)

I just took a look at the mod - I can play as the Songhai
Nah, I think my Songhai makes for sense - who is Turunku? I never saw that name during my research.

I see that I am NOT the only person stealing graphics from other civs. The leader of Poland looks like Lincoln to me!

Europe will be insanse with 9 civs - I don't want to start there.
Tibet - NO! I don't want to start surrounded by mountains.

Suggest starts:
Abyssinia - we have some expansion room.
Israel is a bit crammed, and a very natual target - this would be cruel but hopefully it can be done.
Cambodia - We get some room to work with, and if we get mapmaking a jump to the islands quickly and some of the yummy barb camps.
Any of the American civs - we will be way behind in tech, but what a large empire and plenty of yummy barb camps.

 Playing around with the mod
settlers cost *300* shields

The mod is amazing. The settlers also cost 3 population.

There is a saving grace - pop rushing is worth 120shields/citizen. I normally rush it for 2 citizens when at size 6. You go back to size 1, but there are some very food-rich tiles around.

I am on my 5th game and 5th civilization, only playing out the first 50 to 100 turns. So far the Aztecs are most fun, but when I get discovered by eurasia I'm in for it :D

How about this for the civ - RANDOM!
The exceptions: No Songhai - playing them shortly.

Either way killer - start this baby!

Am I looking at the same mod ? When I look in the editor, I see that a settler costs 2 population.

And another thing I noticed: several civs can build leaders for free :crazyeye: . And the AI apparantly doesn't know how to use this facility, at least not on chieftain.....

Aggie, make sure to go to the main thread and download the BIX update as well (small DL). This must be copied in to the scenarios directory after the 1.66 update (the 58Mb file ERIKK linked).

BIX Update (bottom of first post)

You also need to delete the old BIX files (5 of them) from the scenarios directory.

I have noticed several discrepancies with the civlopedia. Exp civs don't get to build more scouts. Greece starts with MapMaking (and I think England does as well). Someone also starts with writing (far too much an advantage).

There are many many more changes as well, I am learing them as I go along.

I am tempted to wait for version 2 as it promises to be much more than the current one. I also think we should choose our civ as there is such a difference between them. As I mentioned before, a commerical civ in eurasia that starts with alphabet is too much of an advantage IMO. Please not one of them.

I am currently playing Aztecs - now that's a challenge (maybe too much of a challenge?).

After reading Arranes' directions I edited this post.

I followed the directions and changed the BIX files. The editor settings seems to fit now (3 shields for a settler), but when starting the scenario my game exits. I already read on the installation page that it has to do with the fact that my game is installed on a non-standard drive on my PC... I try to fix it today, but if that doesn't work, I give up.

I give up

If you're starting the game with the current version, please remove me from the list.
I want to give version 2 a try, but the installation program doesn't like my computer-setup.....

EDIT: Arranes convinced me to not give up just yet...

Well, I *HAVE* succesffully started a scenario.

I should have no problem playing -
I suggest Killer start this before players lose interest!

should we wait for version 2.0 that was promised for early January?

NO - we don't know what the final date will really be.
