Hello everyone, this is a static flag of Texas I made. I think it came out alright.

Updated: Added the new and much needed vertical style.

The vertical style download is below, named "texas vertical.rar".

Here's the horizontal style. The download is named "Texas Flag Leaderhead".

Also, here's the foreign advisor screen; I think the color is a bit off.

I like it.

However, what detracts from it is something you don't control. It would look better in a landscape orientation than portrait.

As a Texan by birth, it almost sacrilegious to even think this but.. what if you made the Lone Star smaller, moved it to the left a little bit and thus showed more white and red?

Some may see this special flag as just a portion of the US flag and not recognize it for what it is. (damyankees)

It would be a good starting point. If you were to just paste that into the leaderhead box, the star would be too small and the red and white would be too dominant.

It may be in the proper vertical orientation, but it looks strange. I would expect the white bar to be on the right side, not the left, which would point the top of the star to the right, not the left. But this is not the case, per How to Hang the Texas Flag.

Alright, I tried to reduce the original flag by moving the star to the left, and it did not look very well, mainly because the star would either be in an awkward position, or had to be cut off a bit. I also tried to reduce the overall size, as I thought that would help it, but unfortunately if the flag already is at the proportions of the 240 pixel height. It does work though, but there's these two annoying black bars at the top and the bottom, which does not look good either.

I tried the vertical alignment, and I personally think it works well alright. The star and the white-red stripes both occupy half of the frame, and it looks distinctive from the flag of the United States. Tell me what you think.

Looks good to me.

Now, this is going to sound silly, but let's at least try it to determine how silly it is.

What if you used that flag, vertical, as a backdrop for Big Tex? Not all of him but just from the chest/shoulders up (like a bust).

Well, here it is.

Having the flag as a backdrop is an interesting idea, I'll keep it in mind for future ones.

mmmh... good idea ! :cowboy:

Looks good.

So what's next? More state flags or a set of Texas based/themed advisors?

I was going to make a Cold War era scenario, but I just found out that there's already a very well made one.

I'll take suggestions.

I almost photoshopped a pic of burning Big Tex onto the flag and posted it. Yes, I'm going to hell.
Now, wait a minute. Burning Big Tex with a Texas flag in the background. About as bad as some of the our local, illustrious Dallas Cowboys in handcuffs in front to that famous big blue and silver star of theirs.

Hmm...could these images lead to a new civ called I Hate Texas?

Here's the California one that I've been working on for a while. I wanted to make it horizontal, but I just couldn't crop that iconic bear.

if this can be helpful...

Oh my, that is not what I meant. I meant to say that I can't crop the iconic bear because it look make the leaderhead look bad, because no one wants to see parts of a bear or just the word "California" out of "California Republic". I'm really sorry if you used up your time to make this.

ah, ok !!

but.... does if you simply change the dimension of box that contain the leaderhead ?
In this way, you can use EVERY flag you want !

the first is the original CIV III\Art\diplomacy\talk_offer.pcx
the second is my fast modification, without values or references
the third using your picture...

of course, ALL of leaderheads ( or pictures that use this window ) have to fit into a new box...

Wow! I didn't know that can be done!

This was incredibly helpful, and many more leaderheads will be possible as a result.

Thanks again, monticone!
