As we're getting closer to the time of release (at least for you guys in the US), I thought it was about time to thank you all.
I only joined this forum less than two months ago but it has become my most frequently visited website in that time. Since many of us will probably disappear into the real game once it's out I want to take the opportunity to say I had a really great time with all those
  • criminalistic masterminds who never tired to explain the "Alphabet Theory" and the Wikivenetian color matching probabilities,
  • forensic specialists who detected the tiniest details that could be seen in minuscule tooltips which were visible for fractions of a second and who dug through all those xml-Files excavating the last morsel of information
  • people of incredible historic knowledge debating the relative merits of civilizations half of which I had never heard of
  • crazy speculations about NA civs who could make their units appear as barbarians
  • false leaks planted by "those pesky Russians"
  • wild conspiracy theories about true leaks
  • the excitement of suddenly disappearing threads
  • that excellent humour in the tabloid thread
  • and above all: excellent, civil and respectful discussions about so many things. You don't normally get forum discussions of this kind on the web - at least not where I've looked.
  • Plus the new experience of having a thread closed by the mods on account of me "trolling". :nope: That really has never happened to me before. Still: On the whole I think you mods do an excellent job. :salute:
For all of that: Thanks to you all! :)
See you on the other side ...

"people of incredible historic knowledge debating the relative merits of civilizations half of which I had never heard of"

For some people, I took it too far...

But yeah, I second what boghog said. CivFanatics makes this video game much more than it really is. It provides a community for jokes, debates, Civ talk, and a little bit of everything in between. Without the fellow mods and users, this experience wouldn't be what it is. And for that I say thank you as well. The experience leading up to the game is almost as fun as the game itself

Also, a special thanks goes to all the reviewers and media personalities for making a rounder Civ experience. Everyone from Zacminor to Kate to Maxwell McGee to Adam Sessler and everyone else I didn't mention!

But most of all, a thank you to Ed Beach, Dennis Shirk, and the entire Civ team from the bottom up. They are the reason we continue to orbit this wonderful Civ universe. They are second-to-none for their passion, attention to detail, and effort. If all gaming teams and companies were like this, there wouldn't be a bad game on the planet.

Honestly, it's like there isn't a single weak link in this entire Civ Universe

I also lurked on this forum everyday for the last few months, reading all your discussions, getting exited on all the new features that have been added, ninja-looking (is that a word? If it isn't, it is now :) ) on all the New threads that popped up, being amazed at it all, learning way more than whatmy history teachers offer me at school, thanks guys like seancolorado to name one, I really enjoy learning from you guys, and also: this forum let me read so much English, that really helps me a lot! (I don't need it but it helps me in keeping my English level) I also really enjoyed the little controversy I created on the 'blind Dandolo leaderscreen' thread I made, I guess not in every country you can say what you want without getting some mean looks :p hahahaha. Overall I am really thankful for everything you people have teached, entertained and informed of. I am a 16 year old Dutch boy who likes to play Civilization. And believe me, that is pretty rare ;)

I hope to see some of you in the Strategy & Tips forum after next week where we can focus on the details of the game and the merits of any of the civilizations (instead of speculation, hype, nationalism and sensationalism :) ).

Well i am still proud of all of us for creating the most ridiculous tread on the internet: Ashurbanapal vs. Kamehameha, man that thread was a fun read.

and for the theories both dumb and smart, crazy and correct. This form has made the wait for the 9th really fun

Yup, I love this forum. It's really great to be part of a close-knit, civil, accredited community. I've really no idea what I did with a third of my free time before I came here. Maybe just lurking.

Sid sprang to his devs, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all ran like the fall of a missile.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he went out of stock,
"Brave New World is to all, the kasbah please rock!"

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that without us you would never even have heard of Indonesia, Sean. :p

Yeah he's real lucky he found us.

Hey guys, do you think the Axemen are from a new NA civ??? Shawnee, Powhatan or Cherokee?? Why did the devs disguise them in Barb colors?

That's because the UA is that your units are disguised as barbarians, of course! Duh, guys, duh!

I've been around these forums for 4 years now and I've had so many excellent discussions about so many different aspects of Civilization games. It's a great community, one of the most unique gaming community on the Internet. I'll be back over the next several months for sure, as we gear up for the release of BNW. I'll also be looking to do some guides for some of the past civilizations once this final expansion has been released, so look for me to be hanging out in the Strategy and Tips forum in addition to the usual!

Let me be heard to say "Thanks!" as well! It only took me three months after I bought Civ 5 to join CivFanatics, but I'm glad I did. It's been great to keep checking the BNW sub-forum every 30-45 minutes to see if there's been any new information released, and to play "Who/What Am I?", and to read the stories over in that sub-forum, and, and, and...
And I've also been very impressed with the fact that somehow, almost all of this is done politely and just generally nicely. So, yeah, looking forward to continuing being a part of these forums and the Civ community!
Now, if Firaxis could just give us a blurry screenshot of some unit/Civ for a new DLC...
