hi there again,

when i hit enter to end the turn in the year 300AD the computer crashes back to desktop over and over again, not leaving any message.
i googeled around a bit and found more civ4 players have the same prob...
but..unfortunately...i couldnt find a solution for it
can anyone help me out here?

system: XP SP2 on PIV 2.8Ghz 512 DDR and ATI radeon 9600 256 mb vid, directx 9c.

tnx in advance

Ron35,
I just realized I have exactly the same problem. I've played 3 times with different civs and it always happens when I end turn at 300AD.. The furthest i've gone is to see "325AD" and thats it.. it crashes to desktop..

system: XP SP2, nvidia 7300GT, 1024DDR2

hi, i have encoutered the same problem too, crashing at 325AD (when the game is autosaving). I have a savegame at 300AD so just end the turn and see what happens.
It seems like it did actually autosave before it crashes, so I also added the 325AD autosave. Just start the game and load the save, it will immediatly crash (at least for me).

eric - tried your AD 300 save, played it through until I finished researching code of laws (4 or 5 turns), no problems what so ever. I did note that the turn when it crashed for you your population reached a value that triggers one of the pop ups (your civilization now exceeds 10 million people or something).
I would examine the system you are trying to play on, especially the amount of system RAM you have.

Hi Doomed,
thank you fo trying it out. I think my hardware specs *should* be ok, since I have 1,6 GHz AMD Turion64 with 1 GB of system RAM and a Radeon X1600 Mobile Card.
I tried the save again with as many background tasks disabled/stopped as possible, wich gives me about 750 MB of free RAM according to Windows.

Any other things I could try? Since this is the first game I've started playing another one from the beginning is not a problem :) I will try this option the next couple of days and see what comes out of it.

Try turning off the "popup" in the game options. I am not sure which option could help, perhaps disable Sid's Tips or Advisor something.

Thank you for helping crunch, but it doesn't function even with both Sid's Tips and advisor popups disabled. I heard someone mention if the graphics board uses shared memory, how could this be an issue?

[EDIT]
I tried starting a new game twice now, and it always dies at the turn from 300AD to 325AD. I don't like spreading rumours, but I made an image of the game disk and started playing with a crack to ease the pressure on my notebook battery when playing "on theroad". Unfortunately I don't have my Original disc here to test again (my father won't give it back - he's addicted to this game, and 2000 miles away :|). Maybe the others who reported this error are playing with an image too?
Could this be a Securom issue (i don't like these things...)?

i have the exact same problem as you do, altough my crash happens at BC-0580 --- i have a decent rig amd athlon 64 3000+ with 1.5gigs of ram. ive updated my drivers, reinstalled game twice, tried to start a new game and it crashes at the exact same spot as well. like you im also using an image for the game. also running the latest patch 1.61. if anyone can help it would be awesome been looking for a fix for a few hours as well.

Hi all,

I borrowed a Civ4 disc of a friend of mine, reinstalled the game patched it to 1.61 and voilá, played to 400AD without a problem. Because I have to give the disc back, and I really want to play using an image, I started searching for another crack and found one on <snip>. I hope that I don't get stoned to death in this forum for mentioning/using cracks, but I just wanted to share my experience :)

However, the new file was fine and I can now play Civ4 without my disc in the drive to more than 325AD Yeah! *gg. Just search for <snip> on the site.

Thanx for all the people that tried to help!
