Spoiler :
This sentence states that all 3 Warriors must be used to capture the Merchant. So, anyone that did not capture the Merchant using all 3 Warriors grouped together and attacking at the same time has technically failed the challenge.
Had this sentence said "use 1 of the 3 warriors given to 'capture' the merchant" then you would have been fine. So, I am afraid that technically, your game is disqualified.
Realistically, nearly everyone will have split up their Warriors, so all of the games will count, but I would not be surprised to see people "lose" a future round for failing to follow the instructions as stated.
Ideally, saying something like "Use one of your units to capture the Merchant; you have been provided with 3 Warriors to help with this task" might have been even better, because then someone could have still won had they built a 4th Warrior that made the capture (it's pretty tough to check for someone having done so, thus you might as well have a broad enough rule that allows it to happen).
Spoiler :
The sentence states that you can use all three warriors to capture the merchant. This means you are allowed to use these three warriors freely to do anything in order for the merchant to be captured. I do not interpret this as "all three warriors grouped together capture the merchant"
