The ARC's Gambit

Suzanne Fielding knew life on their new home world would not be easy. The reports from earth had said this planet was unlike anything they ever had seen. The terran-like planet had been classified a "F" for Fungal. Probes sent to the planet revealed it had an unusual appearance but a prime candidate for colonization.
From orbit where she stood the first day after she and her fellow colonist awoke from their cryogenic hibernation, she could see the planet had several distinct features. The purple-green continents with large oceans and thick cloud cover marked by grand canyons and mountains all covered in a strange purple-green vegetation. She nor the scientist onboard knew what it was but one guess made it out to be a type of algae or fungus. This was exciting many of the biologist types on the ship and even those who had no scientific ambition. Science fiction had always fantasized what travelling and colonizing an alien planet was like and now was their chance to do it for real.
After making planetfall on the second continent on the coast of a large ocean, Suzanne gave the world its name Iris. After the founding of Central, the capital, and after some nearby regions had been explored, it was decided to immediately begin work on researching better means of mobility on the unusual terrain. Fortunately, they had rovers to work off of brought from earth.
Meanwhile, work was started on Terraforming the planet to resemble earth. In no time, the ARC had two working workers units to begin operations. Already Fielding had here eyes set on the interesting abundance of titanium and alien fruit resources conveniently located near Central.

Hello, everyone, this is my first ever story of beyond earth. It took me a while to figure this game out. Going off the stories title, my objective is to play a successful game where my colony's health, the bane of my existence, isn't in the negatives. Thought I'd share it with anyone who'll read it.

P.S. Yes, this is the actual account of the current game I'm playing. More posts are promised and are currently in the making.

By Turn 12, research on the rover technology was completed and production shifted to constructing a small defense force that could defend the colony from any outside threat. Meanwhile, research was initiated on Planetary Surveys to allow the Explorer teams sent out from Central to embark across large bodies if water if necessary.
It was revealed that the Slavs, Kavithans and the Brasilians had landed on the same continent as the ARC had. Suzanne saw friendship material Kavitha Thakur and Rejnaido de Alenar, the leaders of the Kavithian Protectorate and Brasilia, but could sense a threatening attitude in the leader of the Slavic Federation, Vadim Kozlov.

Not a good sign.

Not long after meeting them, Suzanne had a trade agreement with Kavitha in effort to forge a strong friendship. Meanwhile, Suzanne turned her attention to Daoming Soucha of the Pan-Asian Cooperative on the next continent over. Like Kavitha, Suzanne saw friendship material and immediately began trade with her. The same went for Hutama of the nation of Polystrailia who landed on the same continent as the Cooperative.

The first ARC's outpost Axiom was founded in turn 23. With the help of Fielding's workor units, it wasn't long before it grew into a bustling little city.

As time went on, more factions began to make their presence know. Some chose forge friendships, keep at arm's length or decide to hate the ARC. One noticeable faction was the African Union lead by Samatar Jama Barre. By now, the ARC had made it known it was taking a puritist stance, saying it would stick to old human ways and effectively shape Iris in earth's image. Barre, who believed it was best to move on and use technology to enhance humanity, was a supremecist and naturally that cause friction between the he and Fielding. Tensions continued to rise after the African Union established Jenilli, an outpost in the ruins of an old trade station just outside ARC territory. Though the Africans and Barre assured Suzanne that it was a non-hostile move, she knew well enough what a threat the outpost could become later on. Fortunately, Fielding had a mutual ally who disliked Barre as much as she did. Kavitha Thakur had been having problems with the African Union ever since planetfall given Barre had taken sides with her enemy, the Brazilians.
It didn't take much for her to convince Fielding that Barre had to be dealt with before he established a foothold on their continent. As for Fielding, an alliance with Thakur and subsequent war with Barre would be a safe gamble if that meant securing the region for the ARC, especially since Barre's realm was an ocean away. Thought they wouldn't be able to send adequate reinforcements to the region in defense of their outpost, Fielding could.
Turn 30, the same turn Suzanne had her brand new worker units, ARC and the Kavithan Protectorate declared war on the African Union with Jenilli in their sights. Fielding immediately dispatched four of the ARC's newest combat rovers to attack the outpost with the intent of destroying it.
Fighting lasted two full turns due to the delay of a rover unit bogged down in Maisma, but by turn 32, the outpost had been laid waste to and the combat rovers were returning to ARC territory victorious.
It was unknown what the Protectorate did the whole length of the war but just as soon as it began, the war was over.
At least figuratively speaking.
The war would last a full ten turns before a peace treaty was finally negotiated by Fielding who saw her only war objective accomplished and the threat of the African Union vanquished.

At least temporarily.

With the African Union dealt with, Fielding turned her attention to the two alien nest occupying the region of the continent far north of Axiom. The nests, two of them, were the breeding grounds for many of the alien life ARC explorers had discovered so far. While they weren't an immediate threat, she knew they would have to be dealt with as well. They also were aggressively guarding a resource pod some derilect settlements that she realized had valuable potential for expedition.

With the founding of Fortune and Liberty to the noth and Vanguard to the south of Central, Suzanne decided to dispatch her military to rid of the aliens before they had a chance to grow threatening.

The resulting campaign would become legendary.

It started with the irradiation of a swarm of aliens near Fortune who were harassing one of Fielding's workers.

A Marine and Missile Rover unit were the the first to arrive and quickly took care of the vermin.

As they cleared out the aliens around Fortune, they began their advance north into alien territory sighting the two nests. As reinforcements from Central arrived, the fight grew immensely easier. However, Suzanne underestimated the sheer number of aliens occupying the region. She soon dispatched one of her new Aircraft Carrier units and a Tacjet unit, just researched and freshed of the production line, to aid in the operation.
