The best event - probably

I had a nice event in my current game. Certainly not the best event in the game overall, but what a great time to get it.

The random leader gave me Churchill. I started on the end of a peninsula, with room for 3 cities, and Hannibal on the main part of the continent blocking me off. He had copper, I didn't

I eventually got some iron. Hannibal was churning out loads of axemen. So I decided to try a crossbow rush. PRO/CHA crossbows might just give me an edge. Soon after I started the war, a random event popped up giving all my crossbows Combat 1 :D Hannibal got wiped out :goodjob:

Really? How come when I get the Carrier Group event and I already have dozens of Destroyers, usually 3 or 4 Aircraft carriers filled; I still have to build them.

Also, the Colosseum sports league thing, I already had 7 and built 4 more, but that didn't win it for me. I think I had to build a full 11 from when the message pops up, or am I just miscounting?

How many you build before or after receiving the quest do not matter. Someone else probably beat you to it, and you didn't notice the message.

Conversely, I've received quests that were completed the next turn by another civ (bcz they already possessed the necessary reqs).

The Blessed Sea is to me the most pointless....(on huge) build cities on 16 different landmasses....yeah right.....and totally and utterly crucify your economy while doing so.

I suppose it just about might make sense, on a huge "tiny islands" archaepeligo type map....

My personal favourite is the random event that comes from running Police State: you either get 1 :) in all your cities, or you can give all of your gunpowder units march. Basically, that is the game over for me, and speeds up my conquering by about 100%! :D

Suck to be America churning out SEALs and someone else gets that event. Your big advantage just disappears.

17 tanks and defensive pact... NICE ONE!

But is there anything better than planning an early war and just before it you get all your Swordsmen to get +25% vs Archers upgrade? :)

I once got tower shields when playing as Rome....

Yeah, you can just magine it, can't you?

6 or 7 civs .

I was using Julius Caesar and an event that give all my melee unit the cover promotion followed by another which gives them drill I, I won an early conquest victory as a result thanks to a few stacks of City raider III + cover + drill I Praetians

All this goes to show that timing is everything. I would have been less delighted at getting 17 tanks if I already had three or four dozen of them, or if I was on the point of getting Modern Armour (I don't know what renders the "tanks" event obsolete).

It's not as flashy as some of these events, but I love the wedding event where for a small sum of gold you can get a +3 relations boost with whoever the other leader is. Great when it happens to someone pleased, getting them up to friendly so you can sign a defensive pact.

me 2 :)

got my highscore that game, 278k points on monarch, finish date conquest about 1600.

that event is gamebreaking if you play as rome. was a fun game though.

All I can say is must be nice.

The events which happen so often I remember them by heart:

Greed: = acquire X number of resources for your corporation
Plane Crash: = I've had games where this one has occured over a dozen time, my pilots suck.
And of course: Blessed Sea; WTH is that anyway? I've never completed it, it ALWAYS comes AFTER i've finished my island / sea expansion phase (and thats if I've even bothered to go forth on the sea)

I got a event that let me choose between a great scientist, great engineer or an great prophet :D

Dont remember why, though....:mischief:

The one quest I got that I fulfilled was to build 7 castles. This was on a fractal map that turned out to be a "broken pangaea", with enough room for me to place only 5 cities. I had to take two and buy the castles while delaying the IA as much as possible. Finished the quest, tho. Got the choice for either Garrison I on my troops or +3 in foreign relations. I took the second option. There would've been a third if I owned the Great Wall, but no....

lol but no....

just had the best even ever!

Random choice of leader, I get Ghandi - Organized -50% upkeep

About 10 min into the game I get the event with the option of building the Federal Reserve -25% Inflation! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I'm running 50% Culture and 50% Espionage right now and still turning a profit.

Does that event permantly decrease inflation by 25% or, does it cut current inflation, then add to it only at 75% of the normal rate.

Yeah same thing with holy mountain, does it permanently give +1 happy in all cities for whole game?

@say: Yes. The percentage in the Inflation part of your Finance screen drops by 25%. This often means that you get something like +30~60 GPT, depending on when it is used.

@stee: Yes it does. But it is almost impossible to pull off.

Why is it almost impossible to pull off. You mean finding the mountain?

Because when you do eventually find the blasted peak, it's not possible to settle near it. Well, that's happened twice to me: what can you do when the peak is on a one-tile island in mid-ocean ?
