I'm an addicted CIV III player, but I'm looking for some other 'God Games' that are TURN-BASED. None of that RTS stuff; I'm too old and farty to keep up.

After extensive searching, I've compiled a list of supposed, excellent turn-based, strategy games. I'd like folks' opinions on any/all of them to help me in my shopping pursuit:

12 O'Clock High - Bombing the Reich
101 Airborne - The Airborne Invasion of Normandy
Age of Wonders Series
Ascendancy
Chariots of War
Colonization
Combat Leader: Cross of Iron
Deadlock
Disciples Series
Europa 1400: The Guild
Europe in Flames
Fallout Tactics
Far West
Fragile Allegiance
Galactic Civilizations
Heroes of Might and Magic Series
Imperialism I & II
Jane’s Fleet Command
Korsun Pocket
Lords of Magic: Special Edition
Master of Magic
Micro Commandos
Pacific General
Pacific War
Pirate Hunter
Port Royale
Rome - Total War
Sea Dogs
Solace
Soldiers at War
Space Empires IV Gold
Star Trek: Birth of the Federation
Stronghold Series
Supremacy
X-COM Series

I was just about to say the same thing ville.

Worms is a great game, but it's definatly not strategy. It is a turn based action......... comedy though.

Heros o' Might & Magic is also a great series.

I never even heard of Worms. I got it off a list of turn based games. :)

Yes, there a few games listed that aren't out yet, but maybe someone out there is privy to some knowledge?

Advance Wars 1/2 is extremely good. Semmingly simplistic gameplay that anyone can pick-up and play, but can get very, very deep. Nice distinct graphic style, good difficulty range, and a suprisingly good storyline. It's so good, I like to constantly "remind" people of how much it makes Civ look like crap.

There's one major flaw, though. The game for the Gameboy Advance. I suggest you get off your PC games with their unstable framerate and long loading times and go buy a GBA. :p

Caesar 3, Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom, and Pharoh are not TBS but RTS

I'm big fans of Galactic Civilizations and Imperialism games, both are very fun

It's an RTS, but Black & White is slow enough to be handled well.

I've heard and read that Birth of the Federation was utter crap. And that came from a Trekkie who's more "Star Trek: right or wrong!" than I am, so it's a safe assumption that the game isn't worth the money.

BotF is a bit old now and I wouldn't recommend it anymore but it was fun for awhile and played quite well, just a shame that they have never released a sequel.

You folks are an awesome help. I didn't realize that some of the games were RTS. I looked them all up on Gamerankings and Gamespot, but some of the descriptions left me guessing.

Heroes of Might and Magic III is good :) The ability to play hotseat is nice, but the graphics are quite poor. Saying this, I think # 4 has been released -- which will look better. You should be able to get #3 for £5, so that's about $3 - 4. A steal in my opinion :)

I didn't see in your list and I would recommend..
Warlords III Darklords Rising
Europa Universalis 2

and Heroes 2 was the best of that series.

Played the Europa Universalis Series and found them a bit boring. This may sound funny coming from a historian, but I thought the series was too history driven. I wanted to start out early, with one province, and see where I'd end up.

If you like X-Com, you'll love Jagged Alliance 2. Possibly the greatest game of all time.
