The best shareware PC games?

Have yourself a MUD. Great fun can be had with interactive text and a little imagination. :)

The Battle For Wesnoth rocks, but it isn't exactly shareware. Rather, it's free.

Take a turn based system, add high fantasy flavoring, simplify all resources, make units you can promote, and bake it all up to be very modification-friendly, with an official site for user made campaigns... And it's TOTALLY FREE!

Somehow, it stripped the address out of my URL tag. Fixed. Strange thing.

Of course, you could have googled it...

escape velocity nova. its from ambrosia and was orriginally Mac only. www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evn

one of my favorite games ever in fact.

I think that Dink Smallwood (Developer, Fan site) is good. It's freeware, though, but that's even better than shareware, since it's free! The best part about Dink is that it's made to be modded, so that there is a huge base of mods for it (DMODs), which has accumulated over the years. Check it out!

BTW, maybe I should check out this MUD stuff. It sounds good.

Wesnoth is pretty good, but its a bit too hard, even on 'easy'.

Steel Panthers (try googling it) is a pretty good WW2 tbs. Big battles are too time consuming though.

Anyone ever play StelCon? It's at least 10 years old. It's a turnbased strategy game, and IIRC stands for Stellar Conquest. You play on a 10 by 10 grid, with ~15 planets of variouis quality (like terrain in civ). Your planets produce ships and credits (for tech) and you battle other humans/AI. IIRC Conquest was the only victory option.

All these look so fun... I miss video games so much! Seriously I am really sad right now thinking back to all the fun games I played. Before you ask "why don't you play them anymore", it's because I was addicted! I gained weight and ugliness, and lost some of my social life. I didn't do homework, either. So basically I'm afraid of video games, but I love them a LOT. I want to install baldur's gate and alpha centauri and all these games so bad right now... aghhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I wish there was a scenario where I had time to play games and still do the other things that I need to do (homework, friends stuff, work, college apps, independant reading) :( :( :( :( :( :( :(
