The Caste System

Caste System when the GLib and a bunch of scientists provide you with plenty of GPP as it is.

i see... but if you have a very VERY big empire in the early days 1000 BC (immortal rush gone crazy) you can use the unlimited Mechants to hold the strike at bay...

^ In that case you'd just be happy to slog it all the way to CoL for those courthouses. The last thing you'd consider in that particular scenario should be to run CS over Slavery because those whipped Courthouses are going to take you so much further than a merchant thwarting growth and production in every single small city across the empire.

I'm not saying that CS is in any way bad - on the contrary. I find the original post by McThomas highly uneducated because most players, if not all, use CS at some point of the game and it's not underused at all. As stated in this thread, it's also the main reason to fight emancipation unhappiness but that leads to a discussion about workshops and this thread is not about them.

And since we're talking about this thread, what does "Ankore Wat" (that's Angkor Wat) have to do with CS?

I didnt had BW at that time i build the oracle and took CoL pretty fast (with Writing though AH)

Listen: many of my clan mates are playing Civ4 and they never use the Caste, thats why i posted it, an easy light thread to noobs...

correcting that, i just thought of all the Specialist wonders....

btw... im Danish, my language is so far away from english

serfom is powerful in marthorn map. If the leader is spiritual, one can time the whipping and use serfdom extentsively.

yup... i agree, but its rare i play a Marathon game... :)

the few times ive used serfdom is when i have tons of jungle i have to cut down, useually as Justinian, i tend to REX alot and Serfdom can be usefull if you have a lot of workers so you can get things done fast...

Once as Justinian, i had both The Hagia Sophia and Serfdom: i had fully improved citys in a minute :P i won a domination win that way :) ... (ofcourse i switched serfdom out right after i'd improved all of my main citys)

A merchant mission to temple of artemis probably works out better than a paper bulb/second education bulb, or if you can't bulb liberalism.

This situation and you want to run 0f 3:gold:? How about some 2f 2:gold: action (that will grow if it's a cottage, not if it's a lighthouse coast tile)?

I guess you could use a merchant to use a trade mission though .

While cottages or lighthouses do seem preferable, in his situation it's unlikely he was building enough workers to lay down those cottages, or building lighthouses. Merchants are actually a good temporary solution to get back on track. He may not even have Pottery or Sailing yet.

This Oracle->CoL, early warring, then running merchants pre-currency is actually a fun gambit with Roosevelt (industrious/organized). It does take a while to rebound, but you can start off with a huge empire.
