The Celts.

William Rowan Hamilton was Irish and he invented quaternions (where we get vector cross products from) and they are also used in 3D rotation, animation or camera control systems.

Bram Stoker, WB Yeats, Brian Boru, Oscar Wilde, Colin Farrell to name a few (OK scratch the last one!) - I think that earlier post was a joke, bloddy well better be!:lol:

If you want, you can split Celtia into Ireland, Scotland and Wales and Native America into the Sioux, Iroqouis, Carib, Seminole, Apache, Navajo, Inuit, Algonquin, Tupi, Guarani...

But it would get tedious.

Bold= I WANT.

I understand the point regarding the Celts but with all due respect, I can't say that I have much sympathy. CIV is filled with over simplifications and significant but left out cultures and "civilizations". At least the Celts are acknowledged and included.
In comparison to the lumping of the dozens of very distinct language groups, cultures, economies and settlement styles spread out a large continent North America into a "Native American" civilization, the oversimplification of the Celts amounts to no simplification at all. Frankly the creators of CIV made a real mess of it but they probably felt they had to include something of indigenous NorthAm outside of the Aztecs and so they just fudged something together.

Although there never was a Celtic empire or civilization as such, there was a Celtic culture.

The name of the game is "Civilization", not "Culture". That is why the Celts are completely, absolutely wrong for this game - not to mention that there are about 500 civs that are much more worthy of being put into Warlords than the Celts were. Babylon, Israel, Ghana, the Ottomans, the Maya, and the Iroquois come to mind. Heck, even the Republic of Texas would have made a better choice.

It's not like the Irish ever did anything particularly noteworthy. It's nice that the Celtic units speak Irish though :)

Before the recession we were one of the richest countries in the world, we were up there with Japan and the US.We had dell, microsoft and google at our doors, back in the boom times, and our educational system is one of the most competitive, and the one of the best educational systems in the world.

We also gave the world actors like liam neeson and colin farrell, and bands like U2. Also, if i remember correctly Barrack Obama is half irish:D
And we gave the world st patrick's day.
And we showed the world what an ass Thierry henry is.:)

Can we send U2 back please? The Boomtown Rats were good though.

The Boomtown Rats had this guy, probably not very famous anymore, called Bob Geldof as their lead singer.

They were my favourite band as a kid, they still stand up today I think. I went to see them live in 1980 or 1981 ;) Check out their other tunes on Youtube (Wind Chill Factor Minus Zero is one of my faves, and everyone likes Rat Trap). I don't think The Smiths would have been so miserable with jaunty songs if it weren't for the Boomtown Rats ;)

I remember listening to "She's so modern" in my bedroom at primary school and thinking "She's so 1970s? Man this song is going to sound pretty dated soon"

EDIT: Old bald guy dancing in that youtube vid I linked is worth watching too

Fair enough, i'll have a look at those songs, the song in the vid is quite good. Geldolf is a genius after all.

They could have put in a civilization of ship wrecked interstellar travelers, who lost everything and had to work their way back up, and it would still play the same!

Except that they must have amnesia from the time travel and for some reason do not notice that their leader is an immortal robot!

Change it to time travelers from the future sent back into the past with amnesia as a side effect from the time travel and there is this immortal robot sent back to lead them who is the national leader. They were all sent back because the human race struck a dead end and a new start from the very beginning was the only hope.

"ship wrecked interstellar travelers, who lost everything and had to work their way back up" This is the background story for the original HomeWorld game, written by David Applegate I think. You can get the HomeWorld 1 manual here.

I love how most General Discussions threads turn out nowadays.

I think the mighty Empires of Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, San Marino, and Andorra are under-represented in Civ.
:)
They should all be seperate Empires we could lead.

Good luck finding a average gamer who knows any of those.
