The cgannon64 Challenge!

Here we go. I don't know what's with my computer - I can never upload anything... so I did it from another computer.

Some before and after pictures...

And a histograph...

Sparrowhawk: I'd like to know, did you get the Great Lighthouse or did you wait until Caravels? Congratulations if you managed to get the G Light, it was impossible for me to get it. Were the AIs wonder-obsessed in your game? They nabbed EVERY ancient wonder in a few turns in mine...

I got the great lighthouse.

It's not actually that hard. You've got to found Ta-Tu as soon as possible (mine the hills ASAP too), then prebuild the palace like mad.

Research Masonry -> Alphabet -> Writing -> Mapmaking

When I do this, I generally get Mapmaking 4-6 turns before the prebuild is done.

But that's the last ancient wonder I could get. Nothing I did could get me the G Lib.

...land! Good, fertile, grassland! ;) :p

I tried to use a prebuild, but to no avail. I think I churned out one to many settlers...:(

Actually, the resources were well distributed. I was quite surprised. All three of the 'hopeless' island starting locations had iron, saltpeter, and horses. It's the only thing that makes a game possible at all.

sorry this is off topic but it's funny

the Masochist says to the sadist "beat me":whipped:

and the sadist replies "NO"

hahahah

but really what fun is it if it's easy? I'm just disgusted by all the people who play on very low dificulty levels just so there's no work required from them, feel god easy win, good things take hard work.

Wow! I just now opened this thread, and what a difficult starting position! I had seen the thread a few times, but thought it was advertising an online tourney. I am going to attempt this, but I don't expect great results. I intentionally avoided reading the spoilers thread, to add to the challenge (as if any more were needed!). I sure hope that Aeson played (or is playing it), as I would like to see how the Grand Master does (well, I'm sure).
Thanks for posting this Cgannon64, and don't worry about the detractors. It was more than a worthy post. ;)

Sorry to post again on this thread so soon, but I have a question about the patches for PTW. I downloaded patch 1.14f and installed it yesterday. Does anyone know if there would be a compatability issue with 1.04f, the version of PTW with which this map was created?

I'm not reading any of this as to spoil what will happen, but I have decided to take up the challenge and (probably) fail it :D.

I'll post my updates from time to time...

I managed to get a galley in Karakoroum before too long, and ran headlong into a Spanish galley to the Southeast. They're annoyed with me, and also immensely powerful! They have both the Great Lighthouse and the Colossus.

Oy, it gives me headaches to think about how quickly they could annex me :crazyeye:.

ISabella was kind enough to sell contact with me to the Zulus and the Russians, so I'm now in touch with them as well :).

I'm just wondering how Toasty and JonathanValJean fared on this challenge? It's not nice to just leave us hangin' like that! :spank:

You know, I was looking for this thread, as I was reading it about half a week before I joined the forums.

Then I clicked a random old page and saw it 'revived' by Dwarven Zerker. Thanks man!

I'm gonna give it a go. (soon not yet)

Another thing is toasty won't finish this game a he lost his PtW cd and went AWOL on our PBEM game :jump::crazyeye:

Edit: seems I was reading it a few weeks before I joined after looking at the dates :hmm:

I always wanted to post some stuff in this thread before I was registered. It seemed like it was alwats cool. But then It died before I could post my ideas.
