The Christian Bible a good book?

It may feel at times that Christians never give up talking about "Christ". Whys that?

Its simple. When someone does truelly become a Christian they do experiance the peace that if I was to die tomorrow I would be going to heaven... this is because of what Christ did on the cross, not what the person did themselves.

So why do Christians always talk about it?
They want you to know that there is a reason for life. That you too can have the peace and comfort of knowing one day you will be in heaven with our Creator. I don't think a true Christian would do it just to be a pain, or to boost themselves, but rather to tell you the truth.

Be willing to search this for yourself...

I dunno... Until I meet someone who has something to say besides a bunch of bull, I will remain, Anti-Religious, Anti-CHRISTIAN, Anti-Christ.
The Word is not dependent upon any individual... one should not place the faith in other people... it will not be something that someone says, like the magical phrase or something. There is not a special "sermon" to "convert" people to Christianity.

About the thread topic, the Bible is the most widely read and by far the important and influential written work in human history... it is more than just a good book: it is The Good Book ;).

Starlifter!!! You the only one who caught on to that! Maybe I should have used ALLCAPS or quotation marks in the title???:goodjob: And if you are sayin it's all based on faith, well heck, I have none and never will... I'm sayin I need more than a book and a nice thought...

Fearless Leader, "anti christian" because I live in America and that is the predominant religion here. That is what I see and hear. As for the typing with an eye towards what readers will think, you are definitely right. Everyone here has seen me "go off" a little...

I guess I am in the joespaniel boat. I try to live a good and honest life. I am still looking at religions including Christianity, I doubt I will ever be religious, but it never hurts to learn more and see more. Religious talk never gets anywhere... <sigh> But it is good hearing other opinions and rebuttals...

It is worth noting that even Thomas, who knew Jesus personally, found it difficult to believe when groping for final analytical "proof" that Jesus was who he said He was. Thomas even witnessed miracles first hand. When he was able to feel the wounds on Christ after the Resurrection, he finally lost his doubts. No one alive today has even had such contact, yet it is within each of us to be as sure as Thomas was in the end. But it is also possible to doubt. The final "straw" or event or catalyst that causes a person to believe is different, and a personal thing... there is no cookbook recipe, and one's belief is not to be judged by man. However, the Word is there, as it has been for Centuries. People squabble, preachers argue, nations war, denominations come and go.... but His word has remained constant through the ages.

:jesus:

What I think is an important point that hasn't come up here yet is that the Bible is not strictly speaking a book, it is several. 66 books,to be exact, written over the course of aproximately 2000 years of human history (possibly more) by different people with different backgrounds (although all Jews) and for different purposes. Keep this in mind when trying to understand specific passages.

yes, religion is a personal choice, and should rightly always be (it is not always, unfortunately. e.g. the Taliban), but that does not mean whatever you believe is okay. There is an objective Truth out there, and our life's goal is to try and figure it out best we can. We will never succeed completely, and for that reason must always allow that other viewpoints can contain part of that Truth as well. But somewhere in the confusion of our many denominations, religions, and New Age pseudo-spirituality there is The Truth about God, our Universe, and Life itself. Here's to helping one another on our journeys :)

Hmm.
A few here have said that their main objection to Christianity is the 'preaching', the 'telling them what to think or feel'.

Sorry folks, but if you're gonna be a Christian, you have to follow Christ. To do that, you have to do what he said. Luke 9:23-- "Then he went on to say to all: "If anyone wants to come after me, let him disown himself and pick up his torture stake day after day and follow me continually..."

It is the duty of every Christian to minister the word of God, no matter what the personal cost. That is why Christians go into countries where they know they will suffer for their faith, because they have a sense of duty. Being a Christian is the same as being a soldier. Your marching orders put you in harm's way.

Of course, not every version of Christianity follows the word of God that carefully. In some, there are a laity and a priesthood.

FL2, what does that have to do with this topic? I understand what you're saying, but don't understand how it addresses the question of whether the Bible is a good book:confused:
