Had an idea for the site this morning -- how about a not-so-serious, but still reverent awards ceremony for contributions to CivFanatics?

I was thinking in particular that it would be nice to give some kind of formal recognition to Bamspeedy for his (or her) many fascinating articles on Civ3 strategy...

The winners could get a special award icon added to their Avatar field.

I think it would result in a populartiy contest.

Anyway ,you can nominate all the moderator's for one ,these guys contribute a lot to this site.

Sounds like a good idea, as long as there is no, "Poster of the Year" award, which ALWAYS results in a popularity contest.

Not always. Small forums can make these kind of awards work.

Anyway ,it's smart of you do post a topic around it in Site feedback to ask for it rather than posting a poll on OT with choice's already.

I was thinking more along the lines of acknowledging useful strategy advice, mods and scenarios than acknowledging prolific or popular posters. I think an "Best Off-Topic Poster" award would be counter-productive. Some people like to chat about random stuff, which is cool -- but not integral to the site. Some people like to produce elaborate strategic advice or tools, which is in the spirit of the purpose for which the site was created.

The Civvies would reward/acknowledge the latter... hopefully encouraging more of it...

The former would have to be satisfied w/ a high post count or notoriety within the community.

Well ,i understand youre point and i'm not nessecarily against it.But let's wait to see what Thunderfall thinks about it.

Naww, we are all underserving and humble low lifes.

but then seriuos prices:Non spammer
Man who never would be banned
and such
(i already know im never gonna win ;) )

I think this idea was brought up before and TF answered something like that he wouldn't allow it as all posters at CFC are equal (or something...)
Let's see what he answers now! ;)

It would be possible to have such a plan without it being too divisive, but it would be very difficult, and probably not worth the risk. This site's just too large for this sort of thing, I would say, and, as mentioned above, would go against one of TF's main rules.

I think I agree with Mojo here. Giving 'awards' to posters for outstanding (non-mod) committment to the site would be alright. You know, people like LKendter, Killer, etc.

It would be hard to run...and who would award it? Would there be a vote?

No.

There is too much potential for jealousy and hurt feelings. The first award you hand out would have other posters yelling because they think they deserve it more. It would be a degenerate flame and blame fest in no time.

Best not to open that box.

for an award, you need criteria. Even beauty contests have rules.

There are a lot of deserving people who have made contributions to the War College and in other places. Lets put up a statue after one of them dies. So they won't be too eager to win.

in the humor and jokes forum, there used to be a (funniest poster) thread. That ended up to be a flame war and got closed.
I think the same would happen with MORE awards.

I agree. Even if it started with something small like special contributions to the site and such, people will start flaming.

Although I do seem to remember a thread in OT about "world leader" or something with posters on there, and the only people complaining were those not on the list. All the ones on the list seemed to have said that they do not deserve it. :hmm:

If so, could I do the theme music? (based off Theme of Flinstones)
