The Cold War Deluxe; 1950-1991

I have roughly 10 turns or so left until the US and it's allies have a Victory point victory. I'll remind everyone I am playing as the Soviets on demigod with max aggression. Let me say one thing: I hate nukes ! (Sorry, didn't mean to sound like a leftist pinko tree hugger). The US and Britain and some other unknown country hit me with a few ICBMs and several Tactical Nukes. What I don't like, and this is with Civ3 in general, is there is not enough deterrent to using nukes. Maybe if I would have had some ICBMs to throw back at e'm, they may not of hit me. I dunno. Next time I play, I'm going to refine my strategy and maybe lower AI aggression one notch.

I noticed the F111 is still capable of being transported on a carrier. This should not be. Those were USAF planes, not configured to land on carriers.

A question: Do barricades completely block an enemy from entering that specific tile, and ones beyond it, if there were a 'wall' of barricades ? Or do they merely reduce the enemy unit's movement points?

6 August playtesting ~~ TCW Huge map ~~ UK

war was declared very early in the game when the soviets attacked scandinavia in c. mar '50. i flew some sorties with some of the old-school DH Mosquitos; actually sunk a few Skory class DDs (soviet) w/ them :goodjob:

naval activity, on this larger map and the higher mvmt rates for the sea vessels, is much more 'hit & run' which is kinda cool.

the vastness of the map will take some getting used to.

below is a screenie of the AI doing something half-way smart: landing a Polish Inf in Cyprus near my Royal Navy base. i had only a light garrison (Natl Gd unit) and a bunch of sea units. i shipped in a Royal Marine and a British Inf by air.

Help.
I have downloaded it and the Rar file, but I cannot work out how to unzip it.
I just have unrarlib40 from the link given, which does not seem to do anything.

Africa looks very empty. and Australia to a lesser extent. No civs there?
oh no...there's the same civs there in that large map as there is on the regular sized one.

i left 'Central Africa' w/ only 6 or 7 cities b/c i didn't want them to play too large a part. i know from a pop standpoint they should be way up there but i don't want to overload that position. plus, their cities are all unconnected to make it more difficult.

Australia has 11 or 12 cities actually. all but the 2 western-most cities and the 2 in NZ are connected.

too many cities would cause the game to lag far too long for my tastes. however, i would always add a city if it were deemed necessary.

this huge map is a WIP but the regular map should be ready tomorow i think.

i'm not sure what that text message is all about. it could be the 'Script.txt' file. good to see that you resolved the win.rar problem, too! :D

This scenario is fantastic! I'm halfway through a game as Israel and so far rule north africa and the middle east along with a nice chunk of India. This is by far the best scenario I have seen and is of higher quality than most of the conquests!
thanks Head Serf.

we've put a butt-load of time into this thing. wait until v1.5 comes out. that'll blow any other version right out of the water!

hello Biggles.

don't give up mate! try what krazydude wrote. it really ought to work.

Well, it doesn't.
I cannot unzip it. There are no files to cut and paste.
There should be. It took long enough to download. :)

Hi VingrJoe, the only other countries with nukes are France and China. The countries with nukes are the same 5 countries who are permanent members of the UN security council. Currently the five members are the only nations permitted to possess nuclear weapons under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, though obviously many other countries have them now.

Funny thing how having nuclear weapons seems to give you an edge in real world politics.

Question for you, did you launch the first nuke, or did NATO (or China) pre-empt you? It also sounds like you had no nukes, which you should have as WP.
I keep hearing about games where the AI launches first, but I have yet to have it happen to me.

If I remember correctly, I think the US launced the first one. I had several theatre ballistic missiles, but no ICBMs. I had a majority of my armor being repaired in Kiev when the US hit it with an ICBM, that hurt me quite a bit.

Here's an observation: I noticed the US will not send in the B52s when I have cites with 3-4 fighters on Air Superiority missions, but as soon as my army would be out of the CAP, in would come the B52s.
